VGC Mega Charizard X Rebirth

In my continuing struggle to create a good team for the upcoming VGC '15 Spring Regionals, I decided to look at some of the more forgotten megas. First was Mega Ampharos, which didn't work too well. Then came Mega Abomasnow, which went over even worse. I finally came upon a Nugget Bridge post explaining a Megazard X team and gave it a try. It worked beautifully up until the 1300's in showdown, so I had to tweak it a bit. Here's what I got:

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 60 HP / 156 Atk / 120 Def / 172 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Steel Wing
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw

The star of the team, either lead with it or don't use it at all is pretty much how I use it. Always starting it out with Liepard, a turn one Dragon Dance is top priority. It survives almost all attacks thrown at it while Liepard uses Fake Out on the biggest threat to Megazard. It then proceeds to destroy anything it comes in contact with, using the standard Flare Blitz and Dragon Claw. Then Steel Wing also gives great coverage for fairy, rock, and ice types.

Liepard @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Taunt
- Encore
- Knock Off
- Fake Out

Always one of my leads, whether with Charizard or Breloom, it's fast and can neutralize big threats early on. With Charizard, it has the Fake Out support for Dragon Dance, as explained above,an I'll explain how that support helps out Breloom when I get to it. Aside from aiding it's main two parteners, if something used Fake Out or Protect on the first turn, it's getting Encored into it. One opposing Pokemon immobilized. You just need to remember when the disabled opponent will use protect. Taunt shuts down other Pranksters and locks the Protecting enemies into struggle. Knock Off is in case of Liepard getting Taunted.

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Extrasensory
- Dark Pulse

Pretty simple, a strong, quick special attacker. No real strategy behind this one except all out attack.

Galvantula @ Salac Berry
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Disable
- Sticky Web

Originally Manectric, I knew that I needed something stronger than Thunderbolt, so I found this guy. With Compound Eyes, Thunder hits a lot of the time. Bug Buzz is just another STAB, while Sticky Web can be used early game for some annoyance and Disable is just for insurance. All in all, very helpful.

Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Rock Tomb
- Bullet Seed
- Force Palm

Using the strategy of another team that included a Fake Out-Scrafty Lovely Kiss-Jynx. Liepard will Fake Out while Breloom starts a Spore onslaught. After everyone is asleep, Breloom lays down the hurt, efficiently putting Talonflame and other big threats in their place.

Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Tangled Feet
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Hyper Beam
- Protect

Since Dragon Dance Megazard doesn't work very well when not leading, I felt the need for another mega. Mega Pidgeot has good speed and special attack, and with access to the insane STAB of Hyper Beam, it can actually OHKO a lot of things. All in all, I was wrong in my original opinion of this mega. It's a reliable member of my team.

Please give any feedback that you have, I'm always open to improvement of my team. Thanks for your time!
