ORAS OU Mega Altaria Sandteam

I've been playing a lot of OU lately and I've had some luck with a Mega Pinsir team that I built. However< I wanted to change it up and create a new team! So I decided to pick one of the best megas around: Mega Altaria. I then decided to add a twist to this team by adding another element: Sand.

Let me know what you think! This was a spur of a moment kind of thing so don't afraid to be harsh!

Altaria (M) @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

The star of the show. With it's great defensive typing and access to dragon dance, Mega Altaria is something that we all have to prepare for. Pretty standard set here. I decided to carry Fire Blast on here solely for the element of surprise against those pesky steel types. Aside from steel types, Mega Altaria can have a field day if it gets one DD set up!

Serperior (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Giga Drain

I have been trying to hard to use Serperior ever since we've gained access to it's HA. Well, here we go. I know assault vest isn't a tradition item for Serperior but I already have a life orb user in Excadrill and I didn't want to be too redundant with residual damage. Pretty standard moveset here for Serp.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

I have been destroyed by Sand Rush Excadrill too many times that I've decided to join the dark side and use one. Excadrill is an absolute monster. Earthquake and iron head are there for STAB and are probably two of the best moves in the game. Rock slide is there simply because this isn't a mold breaker variant of Excadrill. I decided to use rapid spin in stead of swords dance solely because I wanted a way to remove rocks from my side of the field.

Tyranitar (M) @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Ice Beam

I was going to use a scarfed T-Tar but I decided that Keldeo was better fit as my scarfer so I kind of turned T-Tar into my lead/support Pokemon. I envision that I will be leading with T-Tar A LOT. I want to get rocks set up ASAP and I want the sand to get going immediately. Stone Edge is a great move despite having such a terrible accuracy rate. Pursuit is an underrated move in the game. And Ice Beam, much like Fire Blast on Mega Altaria, is there for the element of surprise.

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

I love me some tail glow Manaphy but I've been burned too many times by Keldeo. Let's face it: Keldeo is one of the best mons in the game. There is no debating that. I neglected specs for scraf solely because I needed a scarfed on this team and I felt like Keldeo could be a great late game sweeper as well. Standard moveset here.

Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Def / 192 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Roar
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse

So I had a tough time, just like everyone else, filling out the last slot on my team. I wanted a great typing with some good natural bulk. So I went to Latias. This set originally is supposed to be for a Mega Latias but I slabbed lefties on it to make it a normal Latias. I am not sold at all on this set. I love Latias more than I like Latios (call me crazy).

**Conclusion**

- I have no knock off users.

- The more I think about it: Latias is almost a wasted spot.

- AV on Serperior seems idiotic to me.

Help!

i think the serperior should have lefties over an assault vest because glare can be used to stop potential setup sweepers in their tracks

Hey, really nice team here, but i do have some suggestion for it :

The team look like very solid, most common threat of the metagame are well covered, the only one which can annoy your team is M-Lopunny, your team doesn't have an switch-in to him which is very strange for an bulky offense like yours.

First, i could probably suggest to use another item on Serperior. Miracle Seed, Leftovers and Life Orb are all good options on him. Assault Vest is very useless since Serperior don't have to check what he have to check with it (Assault Vest on Raikou allow him to have a better time with like Gengar, Tornadus-T, Scald and Conkeldurr to switch on Electric types and Scald) but with Serperior, you can already check water types without it and ko them back since you outspeed the only one which can threat you in the special part (Manaphy) is outspeeded and KO'd by Leaf Storm, if you don't want to have better time at switching on scald, than Leftovers would be good for you (to set a Substitue aswell), Miracle Seed if you don't like recoil of the life orb. Since now you aren't using the Assault Vest anymore, you could try Synthesis, Substitue, Taunt, Glare or even Knock Off over Giga Drain.

Since you are using Excadrill as revenge killer, maybe Choice Scarf on Keldeo isn't the best option, you can try Specs, E-Belt, LO or even Leftovers with Substitue (which work well on your team since you are using Tyranitar to trapkill two checks to this set).

You are still weak to M-Lopunny, without changing the team too much, i'd recommend to use Mew instead of Latias, Mew will still work as an Keldeo check, Electric types are already checked by Tyranitar, Excadrill and M-Altaria, it give you an check to, M-Lopunny, Azumarill, it doesn't have problem with M-Venusaur too

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind

Serperior @ Miracle Seed
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful / Calm Nature
- Taunt
- Soft-Boiled
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off / Psychic

Hope i helped

Hey, solid team you have there, but it could use a few changes that will make it better.

First off Assault Vest on Serperior is not really good as it doesn't have the bulk for it. I do agree that Life Orb on Serperior shortens the longevity of Serperior being on the field, lessening it's work. I suggest running Miracle Seed instead of Assault Vest, this lets you able to have more power it Leaf Storm while not having to take recoil damage. Now that you aren't using Assault Vest anymore, I think having Glare would be a nice option to have over Giga Drain as it allows you to Paralyze opposing Pokemon for you to outspeed them, or to just cripple them for later which is helpful in certain times.

Now here on I suggest that you try out both of my suggestions to see which you prefer more on the battle field.

Idea #1: Your team is really solid, and the only thing that really needs a changing is the movesets on your Pokemon. Latias's moveset needs the biggest changing as it's the worst set on your team; I'll leave the set for Latias in the "Hide Tab" with explanation of it. Since Latias has it's new set with Defog being the hazard remover, Excadrill can run Swords Dance over Rapid Spin to gain more power making it a very strong sweeper being partnered with Smooth Rock Tyranitar. Latias's new set will have Psyshock to beat Mega Venusaur being the only major threat against your team, and Healing Wish to sacrifice itself to heal another Pokemon to full HP, which is helpful for Mega Altaria having a late game sweep.

Idea #2: If you decide to get rid of Latias, keep Excadrill running Rapid Spin, but change Latias to Tornadus-Therian. Tornadus-Therian is pretty much Pokemon you want in your conclusion having Knock Off. Tornadus is also a check for Keldeo and Mega Venusaur being bulky enough to take hits from them with it's Assault Vest and EVs. Tornadus gives your team a fast momentum which makes it a good partner to have with your sand team. Anyway I hoped I helped, have a nice day ^_^

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish

This is the set for Latias if you decide to have Excadrill run Swords Dance over Rapid Spin. Defog helps remove field hazards to keep your Pokemon from being damaged by Spikes and Stealth Rocks. Healing Wish lets Latias be sacrificed to heal another Pokemon to full HP, this can be helpful for Mega Altaria having a late game sweep. Draco Meteor is just a much stronger version of Dragon Pulse, but returns with a -2 Sp Atk, trust me it's worth it. Psyshock allows you to hit Mega Venusaur being the only major threat against your team.

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Knock Off

This is the set for Tornadus-Therian if you decide to keep Rapid Spin on Excadrill. Hurricane is STAB for Tornadus being it's strongest attack however it is a pain when it misses. Superpower is coverage against Bisharp and Tyranitar being the most common checks for Tornadus. U-Turn is just for momentum for your team, and Knock Off is literally knocking off opponents items. The Assault Vest gives Tornadus better bulk being able to tank hits from Keldeo better.
