Mega Altaria's unique typing of Dragon / Fairy allows it to provide fantastic defensive utility, allowing it to checking prominent threats such as Crawdaunt, Latias, and Hydreigon. In conjunction with its well-rounded bulk, its typing also gives it ample opportunities to set up a Dragon Dance or two and sweep. Mega Altaria's sweeping potential is only further improved with its ability to fire off Pixilate-boosted Returns. All of these qualities solidifiy it as one of the best Megas in the tier. Mega Altaria is very susceptible to status, so Refresh allows it to set up against and beat status-reliant checks like Rotom-H and Alomomola, which would otherwise hinder its sweeping capabilities. Earthquake can be used to break past defensive checks like Klefki and Tentacruel, which wall mono-STAB Mega Altaria. Mega Altaria struggles to break through bulky Steel-types like Mega Aggron, Mega Steelix and Scizor, so Fire-types like Moltres, Volcanion, and Rotom-H are great partners. Pivots that can get Mega Altaria in safely such as Zeraora and the aforementioned Rotom-H also work well with it to help it find a good opportunity to Mega Evolve.

Its typing in conjunction with its well-rounded bulk, gives it ample opportunities to setup and sweep after a Dragon Dance or two. Mega Altarias sweeping potential is only further improved with its ability to fire off Pixilate boosted Returns. All of these qualities solidifiy itself as one of the best Megas within the tier. It has access to coverage options like Earthquake to break past defensive checks like Klefki and Tentacruel, while Refresh allows it to setup against status reliant checks such as Rotom-H and Alomomola. (put refresh stuff first to reflect slashing change + you can focus on it more) Mega Altaria struggles to break through bulky Steel-types such as Mega Aggron, Mega Steelix and Doublade (mention scizor somewhere it's one of the biggest things that annoys alt), so Fire-types like Moltres, Volcanion and Rotom-H are great partners for it. Mega Altaria sometimes struggles to find a good opportunity to Mega Evolve, so pivots that can get it in safely such as Zeraora and the aforementioned Rotom-H work well with it.
