rmEmczx.png

Introduction

What's up guys!I'm Pheonixmaster1 a youtuber and a very active competitive pokemon player.I love building teams and trying them out,its very satisfying when a team works out for me or my friends.Today i'm bringing you my first RMT on a team using which i was able to Peak #22 (1896) on one of my alts and i was having way too much fun playing with this team so i decided to ladder with my main account,on which i was able to peak #42 (1862) aswell. After hours of testing and peaking 1850+ with two accounts i would say that this is a pretty decent team. Hope you enjoy! :]

Teambuilding Process
065.png

I wanted to make a HO team around Mega Alakazam and i found Sub+3 Attacks to be the most effective set.
545.png
065.png

Mega Alakazam appreciates hazards & i wanted to try out lead sash spikes scolipede,it also had niche with Speed boost+Endeavor.
545.png
065.png

I decided to add bisharp for punishing defoggers and trapping lati twins.
545.png
065.png
625.png
642.png

I added Thundurus because it has great offensive synergy with bisharp & alakazam and its utility to paralyse & cripple threats.

Keldeo is a great partner for thundurus.Specs keldeo can wallbreak and can check threats like bisharp for the squad.

For the last team member i added spdef heatran which would be my Stealth Rocker and it can check talonflame & scizor.

I asked blunder for some advice,he told that i didn't really need scolipede as its relatively easy to defog on my team(which was true) & the team was quite ground weak too,so i decided to replace scolipede with Landorus-I which would be stealth rocker and can also act as additional ground immunity.

Since Landorus-I became stealth rocker, there was no need for heatran to carry stealth rocks and my team needed a revenge killer so i changed spdef heatran to Scarf tran.
The Squad

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

Landorus is the stealth rock setter of this squad, its ability to force switches gives it many opportunities to set up rocks which can help in getting crucial KOs.It hits really hard & weakens stuff for other mons.Landorus has a fantastic synergy with pursuit bisharp which can trap Lati twins who are its most common checks.Earth power & Focus blast are standard on stealth rock landorus but after some testing i chose knock off over psychic because landorus is a great chansey lure and getting that thing's eviolite knocked off can help Mega alakazam alot.

alakazam-mega.gif
alakazite.png

Alakazam @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Substitute

After Aegislash ban,i wanted to make a team around Mega alakazam,a very underrated mon which is almost never seen on high ladder, let's be honest when was the last time you saw mega alakazam?lol. It is a very good Wallbreaker,Revenge killer and Late game cleaner. Its ability Trace has its own niche copying Sand rush, swift swim, flash fire, prankster, sheer force, protean, regenerator, thick fat, multiscale, levitate, intimidate etc. can be useful in several situations.Modest nature was chosen for max fire power, with modest nature you can get kills which you obviously cannot with Timid nature and Mega alakazam already has base 150 speed so it can outspeed everything relevant in the metagame even with modest nature except timid mega manectric. However before mega evolving modest nature can be disadvantageous sometimes as regular modest alakazam speed ties with +Speed nature base 105 mons and can be outsped by any mon which has more than base 105 speed like Latias,Latios,Thundurus,Keldeo,Terrakion etc.So this should be noted.

Psyshock was chosen over Psychic to hit mons which have higher Spdef, and psyshock has a chance 2HKO standard chansey after rocks & some prior damage.Psyshock also OHKO's Assault vest Conkeldurr while psychic fails to do so.Shadow Ball is a great coverage move for hitting Latios/Latias,Slowbro,Mew & Mega Gardevoir.Focus Blast is for hitting Dark and Steel types such as Tyranitar, Heatran,Bisharp,Ferrothorn & Skarmory.Lastly substitute is a must on Mega Alakazam,it has the ability to force switches and getting behind a sub on a predicted switch can be really helpful,it also helps you in avoiding Bisharp's sucker punch and then knocking it out with Focus Blast(if you hit lol).If Alakazam has already mega evolved & if it comes on a Thundurus tracing its prankster it can essentially get a free substitute while avoiding the Thunder wave.Substitute can be very useful to ease prediction as well as keeping Mega Alakazam away from being crippled by status.

252+ SpA Mega Alakazam Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 238-282 (37 - 43.9%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch

Bisharp is mainly on the squad to pursuit trap the Lati twins and punish any defog user that tries to get rid of my rocks. It has amazing synergy with Keldeo,Thundurus,Landorus & Mega alakazam,it also helps the team to deal with fat pink blobs like sylveon, chansey & clefable which can give the special attackers on the team some trouble.

thundurus.gif
lifeorb.png

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Superpower
- Thunder Wave

Thundurus provides amazing support for offense, thundurus also has fantastic synergy with Landorus,Bisharp & Keldeo.Thunderbolt & Hidden Power Ice are self explanatory.Bisharp & Landorus appreciate thunder wave support and thunder wave can keep DD mons & other faster threats/Scarfers in check.Superpower was chosen over Focus blast due to its reliability for hitting Ferrothorn,Tyranitar,Mamoswine,Heatran,Chansey,Blissey,Heatran & Excadrill.I cannot risk Focus Blast missing against any of these mentioned threats.

heatran.gif
choicescarf.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge

Heatran has a good synergy with Mega Alakazam & Specs Keldeo who can wallbreak and make it easier for Scarftran to clean late-game,it mainly checks Mega Scizor and Talonflame.Fire Blast & Flash Cannon are Scarftran's powerful STAB moves,Earth power is for hitting opposing heatrans and finally Stone Edge was chosen to revenge kill Talonflame & Mega Charizard Y.

keldeo-resolute.gif
choicespecs.png

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Specs Keldeo works great with Pursuit support from Bisharp,it is a great partner with Heatran & Thundurus. It also checks opposing Bisharps.EVs are pretty straight forward.Hidden Power Electric was chosen to OHKO Gyarados, which is often tempted not to Mega Evolve on Keldeo so it can get up a free Dragon Dance.Hidden Power Electric also smacks Assault Vest Azumarill & Slowbro for alot of damage.

Conclusion

Mega Alakazam is meant to be a late game cleaner,it does a great job doing so.Like any other hyper offense team you need precise risk vs reward predictions at times and trust me if you get these plays correct, its very satisfying.Feel free to use this team, thanks for reading this RMT.

Hey Pheonixmaster1! This is a really cool team that I will definitely be testing sometime soon, seeing Megazam make an appearance in OU is very interesting. I'm not the best of raters, but I decided to see what I can do here.

One thing I noticed, is that you should put Dazzling Gleam > Shadow Ball on Zam. This way, you can still hit the Latis, but Mandibuzz and other Dark types are hit for SE damage without having to rely on Focus Blast's accuracy. The only thing it was hitting harder was Mew, and I believe you have that covered with Bisharp and Specs Keldeo.

A couple things that I thought seemed like they could take the team apart:
Azumarill - nothing wants to switch in on this thing.
Keldeo - same as above

While Thundurus can Rkill them safely, they both can punch holes into your team, and having a weakness to two S-ranked mons who are in the top usage isn't a good thing to have.

Other than that, however, this team looks really solid! I'll be testing this soon, so I might come back with more feedback. Keep up the good work, and I give you props for making such an underused mon a big threat in OU! :]

Hey

Your team is really solid so I have just little nitpicks for you. At first, you can try Protect instead of Substitute on Alakazam. If you run a Modest nature, Protect is incredibily useful because it allows you to mega evolve much more easily and that's helpful against threats like Keldeo, Terrakion, Thundurus and Lati Twins. Substitute is nice to avoid annoying status and to make much harder the revenge-killing by Sucker Punch users, but I guess that you can still try out Protect and see how it goes. Then, I would try Overheat on your Heatran replacing Fire Blast. It's much stronger than it, and it's just a godly move to spam in early game so I would give it a try. Next, you may try Icy Wind or HP Flying on your Keldeo in the last slot, HP Electric is helpful against Gyarados but you can't revenge-kill it anyway if it's at +1 and your Keldeo is already weakened, and against Azumarill I'd just go for the burn with Scald, but since you are already quite weak to it I can understand your choice here. Finally, give 32 EVs on Bisharp to always resist to 2 Draco Meteors of Life Orb Latios, since you want to trap it, I think that this little investiment on Bisharp can help out to do that, you will lose a bit of Speed but that isn't much of a problem after all.

Good luck with your team :). Cheers

I kind of agree with Croven about Dazzling Gleam over Shadow Ball, but I think it's more about coverage there than anything else so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Something does bother me however. I looked into and did some calcs on Heatran and found that it has a chance to OHKO Mega Charizard Y without Rocks support, but it isn't 100%. You could change it to Rash nature, since it's still bulky even then and you don't want to reduce defense since it switches into Talonflame and Scizor so often, to guarantee the OHKO (also, change the IVs back to 31 and but the last 4 EVs into S.Def) and then is also has a chance to OHKO Bulky Mega Charizard Y as well as Talonflames with HP investment.

That's just my 2 cents, so I'll leave it at that~

I agree with adding Overheat on Heatran but not to replace Fire Blast, instead use Overheat over Earth Power. You don't ever want to get locked into a Ground move that's not even a STAB, plus you won't miss it at all since you have 4 other mon's that destroy Heatran. Go ahead and throw Protect on Zam as well, this allows Zam to beat faster threats like Greninja on the turn it mega evolves. It'll also grab that coveted Protean ability that will help it tear through the opposing team. That change is also important because Greninja can come into 5/6 of your team and grab a KO. Sure you can T-Wave it with Thundurus but even Ray Charles can see T-Wave coming and make a play off that. Consider adding AV Azumarill over Keldeo, which would be a great fix to your teams weakness to Water Mon's (mainly Greninja & Keldeo). Azumarill is bulkier than Keldeo and with an Assault Vest it will be well equipped to take a few more hits and act as a pivot. Your team would also benefit from the Fighting and Dark type resistances that Azumarill brings. Good luck with the team.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
