Everyone's favorite spoonmaster is a very potent threat in OU right now, and for a good reason! Its high power and colorful coverage allow it to threaten a variety of balance and bulky offense teams, most notably those that have Heatran as their main Psychic-type check. With Trace as its post-Mega ability, Mega Alakazam can copy Flash Fire to wall and take down Heatran, provided its running Recover. Trace also gives Mega Alakazam a remarkable niche against a wide variety of archetypes, especially rain-oriented teams, as it can trace Swift Swim, and bulkier balance teams, as it can trace Regenerator from the likes of Toxapex, Tornadus-T, and Tangrowth. It can't break these teams on its own, though, so another wallbreaker is usually a great partner. Tapu Lele is not only a fierce wallbreaker that handles Chansey, but it also boosts Mega Alakazam's moves and shields it against priority with Psychic Terrain. Magnezone traps Steel-types neutral to Fighting, which give Mega Alakazam some trouble.
Mega Alakazam displayed great success in the World Cup of Pokemon. Here's a quarterfinal match between suapah and Quaze that greatly displays Mega Alakazam's power:
