ORAS UU Mega Aggron Team

MEGA AGGRON BASED UU TEAM

I'd like to first say that, while I like all of the pokemon on my team and would be hesitant to change any of them (besides Shaymin, just out of personal preference) I'm open to changing any of them besides Aggron.

I've been using this team for a while, with some changes made to it, but finally settled to this, and I've been resting around 1350 on the ladder. As it is, I do think this team is capable of much more as I usually lose because of mistakes on my part in inexperience rather than because of a specific fault in my team. This is technically my first team, although I've changed much of it since the beginning, and I'm curious to see how I could improve it. Here they are:

MEGA AGGRON
306-mega.gif
Aggron-Mega (M) @ Aggronite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Impish Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

Aggron is an incredible physical tank, and an effective wall even against some special attackers because of his Steel typing. Aggron is my only entry hazard setter, and he usually sets it pretty easily because of his bulk. Thunder Wave is great for crippling, and can be used freely against pokemon below 272 speed, as he makes up for the lost turn by going first. Heavy Slam is very powerful stab, and Earthquake provides solid coverage.

SALAMENCE
373.gif
Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

Salamence is just a really solid pokemon in general. I used to run an Intimidate set, but found that I needed choice scarf + Naive for maximum speed, as my team was decimated by any of the multitudes of speedy megas (Sceptile, Aerodactyl, Beedrill, etc) that I miss out on by using Mega Aggron. Moxie is the better ability for sweeping. Outrage has massive power, and Dragon Claw to use when I can't afford to be locked into Outrage. Earthquake provides needed coverage, as does Fire Blast, as I don't have any other fire moves and am otherwise walled by the likes of Forretress.

FERALIGATR
160.gif
Feraligatr (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Ice Punch

Feraligatr is an excellent set up sweeper, as after a boost he has great speed and ridiculous attack with Sheer Force, Life Orb, adamant nature + EVs and solid moves all boosted by Sheer Force. Waterfall is a great stab move, and Crunch and Ice Punch provide solid coverage. The only issue with Feraligatr is that he's very underwhelming, and quite slow, before he gets a Dragon Dance off, but he often has too little bulk to do so.
PORYGON-Z
474.gif
Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tri Attack
- Dark Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Porygon-Z makes a great special attacker with Choice Specs, Adaptability boosted Tri Attack. Dark Pulse, and especially Thunderbolt provide coverage unique on my team and are also quite powerful otherwise. Trick with choice specs can bring pokemon such as Frolass to a complete halt, and frees Porygon to use different moves, which while being significantly weaker are still pretty powerful.
SHAYMIN
492.gif
Shaymin @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Seed Flare
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
- Earth Power

Shaymin is essential as a very versatile support Pokemon, with great stats and powerful coverage moves. Seed Flare is insanely powerful and has a great chance of lowering special defense, making Shaymin's job even easier. Dazzling Gleam and Psychic are necessary and unique coverage moves, and Earth Power provides good coverage, bringing a complete stop to Doublade. Life Orb is necessary as Shaymin needs the power.
UMBREON
197.gif
Umbreon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play

Umbreon is a healer and cleric, especially necessary as support for Aggron who can be worn down and becomes nearly useless when burned. Protect to scout moves, heal with Leftovers, or get a Wish across to Umbreon himself. Foul Play can be a very powerful stab move if the opponent is a physical attacker.

Hey, man! Pretty good team you got got going here. What I've noticed off the bat is that your team is extremely weak to fighting/fire spam, and that it has no hazard control. Fighting and Fire are two of the deadliest typings in tier, and not being prepared for them is a huge bummer. Entei and Mienshao for example, could raise hell against this team.

I would like to start off by suggesting a change in Salamence's set. Either of the following sets actually covers all three of the issues mentioned above (I personally prefer the first set, as it at least provides some offensive presence). Mence and Mega Aggron have great type synergy, covering each other's weaknesses and actually creating a pretty good hazard core.

373.gif

Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Roost

Or

Salamence @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 244 HP / 236 Def / 28 Spe
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Defog

Now, to address the issue raised by losing Mence's Choice Scarf. I think either replacing Porygon-Z's Specs with a Scarf, or replacing Porygon-Z with any of the following could work:

635.gif

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- U-turn

214.gif

Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge

Two dragons may feel a bit weird to have though. Heracross on the other hand, could add a nice physical presence to your team which would help after changing Salamence's set. Just go with whichever of the options feels best after trying them out.

Also, an option I want to put on the side for you to consider is running SD over DD on Feraligatr. This would provide you with a wallbreaker, as well as some priority for your team depending on the set. DD Gatr could actually be too slow for certain things even after a DD, such as Mega Aerodactyl, Jolly/Timid Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile respectively. So maybe you could see if the SD set works for you.

I would suggest something like this:

160.gif

Feraligatr @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly/Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Jet

Edit:
I noticed that after the above changes, the team would be pretty weak to Cobalion. There's also the fact that Shaymin can sometimes be unreliable as a water check. Though this doesn't completely demolish the Cobalion weakness, I would like to suggest replacing Shaymin with Heliolisk.

695.gif

Heliolisk @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Hyper Voice

Heliolisk just outspeeds Cobalion, so it could give you some sort of way to play against it. Something like Volt Switching into Salamence to get off an intimidate could prove useful. Dry Skin as an ability also provides a more solid answer to waters.

I hope this helps. Good luck with the team!

Thanks for the help xVarsity!

You're definitely right about me needed the hazard control in Salamence and I've changed him to your first recommendation, although it's annoying to have to demote him to a much lower offensive presence.

I've replaced Porygon-Z with the Hydreigon, which should fit in perfectly.

As for Feraligatr, I'll try the SD set as the boost in power would be helpful and I really need a priority user (Although I'm now lacking ice moves to take on other Salamence, and Feraligatr appreciates a move super effective against grass). Unless it fares better than I expect though, I'll probably revert back to DD as I still think he needs the speed boost to do any effective sweeping.

And I've just replaced Shaymin with Heliolisk, which seems like it will be more effective, but that means a loss of Psychic and Fairy coverage, as well as special ground coverage.

Ok I like the look of this team initially, but let's get in to the rate!
  • First off, I agree with xVarsity in that you should go Defog Life Orb Salamence > Choice Scarf Salamence for the reasons xVarsity stated as well i.e. no hazard control.
  • Secondly, I suggest running Florges > Umbreon as this forms a nice Dragon / Steel / Fairy core with Salamence and Mega Aggron while also giving roughly the same utility that Umbreon is currently giving you.
Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Symbiosis
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Aromatherapy
- Protect
- Moonblast
  • Third, I suggest running Healing Wish > Psychic as Crobat isn't much of an issue thanks to Mega Aggron crippling it with Thunder Wave and Salamence Intimidating it. Healing Wish allows Gatr and PZ a second chance at setting up or wallbreaking respectively.
Other than that, I love the team and hope you like my changes! :)
