Magmar's expansive movepool, hefty Special Attack, and decent Speed grant Magmar a solid niche in NFE. This coupled with its decent bulk in conjunction with Eviolite allows Magmar to switch into Pokemon such as Golbat, Hattrem, Koffing, and sometimes Electabuzz. Lava Plume is Magmar's preferred STAB due to its reliability and chance to burn switch-ins such as Wartortle, Marshtomp, and specially defensive Regenerator cores. Psychic allows Magmar to threaten Golbat, Mareanie, and Gurdurr with a chance to 2HKO with the lattermost being a guaranteed 2HKO. Alternatively, Scorching Sands provides Magmar with a better match-up against opposing Magmar, Electabuzz, and Lampent. Taunt works well in conjunction with Lava Plume as Magmar is able to put a halt to recovery and defogging while being able to chip and potentially burn a switch in. Fire Blast is Magmar's strongest STAB and is able to heavily damage and KO Pokemon that may not be in range of Lava Plume or Psychic such as Clefairy, Vullaby, and Duosion

Magmar is most effective mid- to late-game where it can more easily find a way in and stop recovery and defog attempts while providing valuable chip damage with anyone of its moves. In order to maintain its longevity, Magmar appreciates entry hazard removers such as Golbat, Gurdurr, and Vullaby. Vullaby in particular acts as a slow pivot which makes it easier to bring Magmar in. Gurdurr appreciates Magmar's ability to threaten Pokemon it struggles with such as Golbat and Tangela. Magmar struggles with bulky Water-types like Wartortle and Marshtomp so it pairs well with Pokemon like Tangela, Electabuzz, and Giga Drain Hattrem. Hattrem also provides Magmar with Healing Wish support and Magic Bounce. Physical wallbreakers such as Thwackey, Gurdurr, and Piloswine all are able to threaten pokemon that otherwise wall Magmar while in return Magmar is able to threaten their physically defensive checks such as Tangela.

name: Choice Specs
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Psychic / Scorching Sands
move 3: Flamethrower
move 4: Focus Blast
item: Choice Specs
ability: Flame Body
nature: Modest
evs: 252 Spa / 4 Spd / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Specs boosts Magmar's already respectable Special Attack allowing it to function as one of the strongest special wallbreakers in NFE. Fire Blast is Magmar's premier STAB move and it hits everything that does not resist it for a large chunk of damage. Psychic allows Magmar to OHKO Golbat and physically defensive Mareanie while also being able to 2HKO both Gurdurr and Machoke. Scorching Sands can be run over Psychic for a better match-up against opposing Magmar and Lampent. Flamethrower is used as a secondary STAB option that can pick up KOs if the Pokemon is in range. Finally, Focus Blast is primarily used to hit Piloswine which, oftentimes, is a roll to OHKO.

Physical sweepers such as Thwackey, Gurdurr, and Fraxure all appreciate Magmar's ability to remove or threaten physically defensive Pokemon such as Tangela, Machoke, and Golbat. Thwackey, in particular, works well with Magmar as it provides Magmar with pivot support through the use of U-turn as well as residual recovery thanks to Grassy Surge. Due to its weakness to Stealth Rock, Magmar appreciates entry hazard removers such as Vullaby, Gurdurr, and Golbat. Vullaby is worth mentioning as it can also act as a slow pivot as well as Knock Off support, providing Magmar with more opportunities to come in. Hattrem is also worth mentioning thanks to it being able to act as Healing Wish support while also blocking hazard set up. Entry hazard support from the likes of Piloswine, Galarian Corsola, and Ferroseed helps Magmar break past bulkier foes that may try and switch in, such as opposing Galarian Corsola.

Other Options
=============
Toxic can be run on Magmar's stallbreaker set in order to cripple Pokemon that commonly switch in, the most common being Wartortle and Marshtomp. Alternatively, Thief can be run in order to steal an opponents item after Magmar loses its own via Knock Off.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Wartorlte / Marshstomp / Brionnne etc

**Insert Threat Here**: Describe why the Pokemon is a threat.

The NFE Magmar analysis is already in GP and will likely be updated again back when the NFE QC team is ready to return. Archiving this; it was a
mistake for this to be approved as this mon was already reserved and written for.
