RU Ludicolo [QC 2/2][GP 2/2]

Ludicolo-Modell.gif

[OVERVIEW]

Ludicolo is a niche pick on rain teams in RU as a Swift Swim sweeper due to its ability to threaten annoying bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Milotic with Giga Drain. It also has perfect coverage to hit the tier for at least neutral damage, making it sometimes difficult to deal with it. However, Ludicolo is very dependent on rain to make up for its mediocre offensive presence; otherwise, it is very easy to check and revenge kill. Even under rain, Ludicolo still struggles against specially defensive Pokemon that are not weak to its STAB moves, such as Assault Vest Reuniclus, Umbreon, and Porygon2. Many Pokemon can also revenge kill Ludicolo such as First Impression Golisopod, Trace Gardevoir, Swift Swim Barraskewda, and Choice Scarf Flygon, even under rain. Ludicolo is also difficult to fit on many rain teams, as they prefer other Swift Swim sweepers like Kingdra and Kabutops or teammates such as Tornadus and Noivern that can handle problematic foes like Toxicroak and bulky Grass-types.

[SET]
name: Swift Swim
move 1: Weather Ball / Hydro Pump
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Protect
item: Life Orb
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Under rain, Weather Ball is Ludicolo's most reliable and best STAB move. Hydro Pump, on the other hand, lets Ludicolo better deal with specially defensive Pokemon such as Umbreon and Porygon2 and also gives it a strong Water-type STAB move outside of rain. Giga Drain deals with bulky Water-types and negates passive damage like recoil from Life Orb. Ice Beam hits Grass- and Dragon-types such as Celebi, Roserade, and Noivern super effectively, which resist both of its STAB moves. Protect avoids First Impression from Golisopod, which is a common threat to rain teams, and also helps to scout for Choice-locked Pokemon such as Gardevoir. 196 Speed EVs with a Timid nature can be used to allow Ludicolo to be faster than Choice Scarf Flygon alongside 60 HP EVs to take opposing attacks a little better.

Since Ludicolo's only niche is on rain teams, Politoed is a necessary teammate to set rain. Barraskewda and Seismitoad are the best Swift Swim sweepers in RU and they, as well as other Swift Swim sweepers like Kabutops, appreciate Ludicolo's ability to take on bulky Water-types like Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Milotic. In addition, Ludicolo enables Seismitoad to run Stealth Rock instead of Power Whip. Flying-types like Tornadus and Noivern help rain teams deal with Toxicroak and bulky Grass-types like Celebi and Dhelmise. Klefki can act as a secondary rain setter, set Spikes, and check Gardevoir.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Knock Off can be used instead of Protect to punish common switch-ins such as Porygon2, Assault Vest Reuniclus, and Umbreon by removing their key items. Leaf Storm allows Ludicolo to OHKO Suicune and potentially OHKO Milotic.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Defensive Pokemon**: Porygon2 and Umbreon deal with Ludicolo by stalling out rain turns and Hydro Pump PP with recovery moves or, in Umbreon's case, the combination of Wish and Protect. Registeel and Bronzong can be 2HKOed by Weather Ball under rain after some chip damage, but they can stall out some rain turns with Protect and cripple Ludicolo with Toxic. Once rain is over, these Pokemon deal with Ludicolo more easily.

**Faster Threats and Priority Users**: Trace Gardevoir, Swift Swim Barraskewda, and Choice Scarf Flygon outspeed and revenge kill Ludicolo, even in rain. Golisopod OHKOes Ludicolo immediately with First Impression, while other priority users such as Lucario and Entei revenge kill Ludicolo once it is weakened enough. Klefki can be OHKOed by Ludicolo's Weather Ball under rain after some chip damage; however, it can keep Ludicolo in check with Prankster Thunder Wave.

**Toxicroak**: Toxicroak is a huge threat to rain teams due to its typing, Dry Skin, and Sucker Punch. It is also a threat to Ludicolo, since it takes both of Ludicolo's STAB moves easily and can either OHKO it with Gunk Shot or revenge kill with Sucker Punch. However, Toxicroak is quite frail and can be 2HKOed by Ice Beam.

**Opposing Weather**: Opposing weather setters can be extremely annoying for Ludicolo, since it is dependent on rain. Once Alolan Ninetales gets a free switch, it replaces rain with hail and OHKOes Ludicolo with Freeze-Dry. Torkoal replaces the rain with its sun but must watch out for a potential Hydro Pump.

  • Ludicolo has a small niche in RU as a Swift Swim sweeper on rain teams due to its typing, ability, and coverage.
  • Its typing alongside its STAB Grass-type move allow it to deal with bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon, Milotic, and Seismitoad with which rain teams struggles.
  • you can condense these two points into something like "Ludicolo has a small niche in RU thanks to its Grass-type STAB allowing it to deal with bulky Water-types such as...", the rest is unnecessary i think
  • id also mention how it has p much perfect coverage
  • However, as mention before Ludicolo works only on rain teams which is a playstyle with some issues, which also make it difficult for Ludicolo to be integrated into it. this is pretty broad and doesn't give the reader much info about why they should or shouldn't consider ludicolo for their rain team. be more specific: what exactly makes it hard to run ludicolo?
  • Ludicolo itselfs has also many issues that make it difficult to fit on rain teams: Firstly, Ludicolo is very dependent on the rain to make up for its mediocre offensive presence - Otherwise it is very easy to check and revenge kill Ludicolo.

  • A Modest nature is preferred to power up Ludicolo's mediocre power. However, a Timid nature allows Ludicolo to be faster then Choice Scarf Flygon. timid hydro pump probably doesn't hit hard enough so you should specify weather ball is better there. also you only need 196+ speed to creep scarf flygon which leaves you with 60 HP so mention the timid spread

  • Since Ludicolo only works on rain teams, Politoed as the rain setter is a nessercery necessary eammate.
  • Other rain abusers are helpful to overwhelm opposing teams. Barraskewda, Kabutops, and Omaster omastar just got unranked, replace the mention or remove it appreciate Ludicolo's ability to take on bulky Water-types, especially Gastrodon, Quagsire, and Seismitoad, and to knock them out. In addition, rain teams with Ludicolo are also able to run Stealth Rock on Seismitoad instead of Power Whip.

Choice Scarf Flygon can only outspeed Modest variants under rain and revenge kill it. Durant and Golisopod OHKO Ludicolo immediately with their First Impression while other priority users such as Lucario and Entei revenge kill Ludicolo once it is weaken enough.

You were too fast for me :psywoke:
Now it should be ready for QC. I've implemented your additions from your post and made bigger changes in the overview and C&C-section to better reflect its drawbacks and to make it read better - I hope I succeeded

Ludicolo is a niche pick on rain teams in RU as a Swift Swim sweeper due to its ability to threaten annoying bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Milotic with its Grass-type STAB move. It has also a perfect coverage to hit the tier for at least neutral damage, making it sometimes difficult to deal with it. Under rain, Weather Ball is Ludicolo's reliable and best STAB move. Hydro Pump, on the other hand, lets Ludicolo better deal with specially defensive Pokemon such as Umbreon and Porygon2 and also gives Ludicolo a strong Water-type STAB move outside of rain. (add a sentence for giga drain) Ice Beam hits Grass- and Dragon-types such as Celebi, Roserade, and Noivern super effectively, which resist both of its STAB moves. Protect avoids First Impression from Golisopod and Durant which are common threats to rain teams and also helps to scout for Choice-locked Pokemon such as Gardevoir. A Modest nature is preferred to hit as hard as possible. Alternatively, a Timid nature with 196 Speed EVs allow Ludicolo to be faster than Choice Scarf Flygon and gives it 60 HP EVs to take opposing attacks a little better.

Since Ludicolo only niche is on rain teams, Politoed as the rain setter is a necessary teammate. Barraskewda and Seismitoad are the best Swift Swim sweepers in RU and them as well as other Swift Swim sweepers like Kabutops appreciate Ludicolo's ability to take on bulky Water-types like Gastrodon, Seismitoad, Milotic. In addition, Ludicolo enables Seismitoad to run Stealth Rock instead of Power Whip. Flying-types like Tornadus and Noivern help rain teams to deal with Toxicroak and bulky Grass-types like Celebi and Dhelmise. Klefki can act as a secondary rain setter, setup Spikes, and check Gardevoir.

However, Ludicolo is very dependent on the rain to make up for its mediocre offensive presence - Otherwise (dont capitalize) it is very easy to check and revenge kill Ludicolo. But even under rain Ludicolo still struggles against specially defensive Pokemon that are not weak to its STAB moves such as Assault Vest Reuniclus, Umbreon, and Porygon2. On the offensive side, many Pokemon can revenge kill Ludicolo even under rain such as Golisopod and Durant with First Impression or Trace Gardevoir, Swift Swim Barraskewda, and Choice Scarf Flygon. Although Ludicolo's niche is on rain teams, it is very difficult to integrated into this playstyle since many rain teams lack the space to take in Ludicolo. For example, they either want teammates that take on other issues like Toxicroak, bulky Grass-types, and specially defensive Pokemon or prefere (typo) other Swift Swim sweepers like Kingdra and Kabutops.

**Special Defensive Pokemon**: Porygon2 and Umbreon deal with Ludicolo by stalling out rain turns - and its Hydro Pump - with Recovery or, in case of Umbreon, the combination of Wish and Protect. Registeel, and Bronzong can be 2HKOed by its Weather Ball under rain after some chip damage but stall out some rain turns with Protect and cripple Ludicolo with Toxic. However, as one can guess once the rain is over, all these Pokemon deal way better with Ludicolo.

**Faster Threats & Priority Users**: Gardevoir traces Swift Swim and can pick off a weakened Ludicolo. Swift Swim Barraskewda is always faster than Ludicolo, allowing it revenge kill it reliable. Choice Scarf Flygon outspeed Modest variants under rain and revenge kill it. Durant and Golisopod OHKO Ludicolo immediately with their First Impression while other priority users such as Lucario and Entei revenge kill Ludicolo once it is weakening enough. Klefki can be OHKOed by Ludicolo's Weather Ball under rain after some chip damage, however, it can keep Ludicolo in check with its Prankster Thunder Wave.

**Toxicroak**: Toxicroak is in general a huge threat to rain teams due its typing, Dry Skin ability, and Sucker Punch. It is also a threat to Ludicolo since it takes both of its STAB moves easily and can either OHKO it with Gunk Shot or revenge kill with Sucker Punch. However, Toxicroak is quite frail and can be 2HKOed by Ice Beam.

**Opposing Weather**: Opposing weather setters can be extremely annoying for Ludicolo since it dependent on the rain. Once Alolan Ninetales gets a free switch, it replaces the rain with its hail and can OHKO Ludicolo with Freeze Dry. Torkoal replaces the rain with its sun but must watch out for a

===================

Ludicolo is also difficult to fit on many rain teams, as they prefer other Swift Swim sweepers like Kindra Kingdra and Kabutops or teammates such as Tornadus and Noivern that can handle problematic foes like Toxicroak and bulky Grass-types such as Tornadus or Noivern.

196 Speed EVs with a Timid nature can be used to allow Ludicolo to be faster than Choice Scarf Flygon and give it alongside 60 HP EVs to take opposing attacks a little better.
