I took a very long break from Gen 9 OU because it was very unpleasant to see additional Pokemon added that really didn't belong. Even now, I find it irking, but then at the same time, I see my favorite Pokemon in OU, like Baxcalibur and Volcarona, getting banned. However after coming back I seem to still be able to manage in the 1400s and I want to make sure I'm going about this the right way to go higher.
Photon Vanisher (Blissey) (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA / 232 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Stealth Rock
- Shadow Ball
HP EVs is one less than a multiple of 16. Even with 252 Def it still takes a lot of damage. SpD is adequate. Shadow Ball is here to still do damage to Tera Ghosts, such as Tera Ghost Heatran that would still have Flash Fire to stop any fire move I might otherwise put on Blissey. However it's mostly for catching Gholdengo.
Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Hurricane
- Thunderbolt
- Ancient Power
Zapdos and Blissey are a core which the YouTuber mtgxerxes was said to use throughout Gen 4 OU. Reason for Ancient Power is forgetting for a second that Volcarona was banned but not knowing what else would be suitable to put. Hurricane is for Rillaboom, in order to make things easier for my final slot on this team. Most of the time Zapdos just flies in, hard to hit, and spams Thunderbolt. Item is perfect.
(Heatran) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
My below slot is Iron Valiant and it doesn't have a good way to Amoonguss. This can keep up the pressure. I have the out the least thought into this slot and I didn't choose the moveset with much consideration either. Is there a physically defensive Heatran set out there, as existed in earlier generations, such as Dual Status Heatran? I also have this here for Taunt in case I have a really stall-ish opponent . Tera is Grass because if I make the Tera Bug, Steel, or Fire, then my team as a whole becomes a bit Garganacl weak and this is also where my hesitancy to use Dual Status Heatran comes from.
Iron Valiant @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Thunderbolt
- Close Combat
- Shadow Ball
Standard set good for revenge switches and checks Kingambit.
Kingambit @ Leftovers
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
Is an offensive core with Iron Valiant. Needs little introduction. I used to prefer speedy Kingambit, to beat other Kingambit, but, now, I prefer bulk to be able to take boosted Ice-type and Dark-type attacks from Weavile.
(Manaphy) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Take Heart
- Acid Armor
- Scald
- Stored Power
Manaphy has many opportunities to set up, especially late game. I had no idea Take Heart was even a move. Tera Poison is great for Grass attacks, but my worry is which I should be using between Tera Grass and Tera Poison, in consideration of whether or not opposing Landorus-T or opposing Zapdos is more of a threat to my team.
