Research Let's Go Master Trainers

I finally completed the Let's Go Pokédex! Which means it's time for me to attempt the only real post game challenge Let's Go has: Master Trainers.

If you aren't aware, after defeating the Elite Four, a Master Trainer appears somewhere in Kanto for every one of the 150 Pokémon in the dex, and there are also Master Trainers for Mew, Meltan, and Melmetal as well. With the exception of the legendary Pokémon, Meltan and Melmetal (do they count as legendary??? I'm not sure), and Ditto, each one will challenge you to a battle where you can only use the same species as the Pokémon they are the Master Trainer for. In effect, you have to work out a way for your Pokémon to win a 1v1 mirror match. Preparing a Pokémon for this fight can be annoying because the Master Trainers' mons are between level 65 and 80 (requiring a lot of training), and they usually have at least one 31IV stat and many AVs (LG's equivalent to EV's) in key stats. The movesets aren't always top notch (Drill Run Fearow...?) but some of them are extremely threatening (Gastly and Haunter run Shadow Ball and nothing else). Beating each Master Trainer gives you the option to call yourself [species] Master as a result.

Anyway, I'm trying to get a couple of strategies for each Master Trainer that I can post to my site, on my Master Trainers page at https://altissimo1.github.io/Main-Series/LGPE/master-trainers.html. I'm going to defeat each one on my own and post my own strategy, but I also wanted to post here to see if anyone else who took that challenge has any ideas or suggestions for specific challenges. The more ideas the merrier! (I will give credit on my site to any specific strategies if I didn't come up with them myself for the record.)

Share your experiences (if you have them)!

unfortunate that i came look for this exact topic so soon, i was looking for a list on what moves or stats i should focus on so i can avoid having to check 142 bulbapedia pages to check stats so i know what attack stat each gen 1 pokemon specializes or whether i need to do both when i evolve them or what not

One challenge I did for myself was that if the Pokemon had an Alolan form, I MUST win using that form instead of the Kantonian one. A lot of them were made harder due to the type disadvantage many of the Alolan forms have over the original. It's been so long though I don't remember much about the individual specifics I did for those 18 Pokemon

ALRIGHT I FOUND ONE that I can beat 25 levels underleveled

I raised all my pokemon to 50 and I'm gonna see how many I can beat

Enemy Golem spams Dig most of the time so you can alternate EQ and protect and you'll do enough damage despite the low level!

(For contrast some other battles I do like 1/16 of their health and have 10 PP)

Works with both regular Golem and A-Golem but A-Golem might need more levels since it doesn't get stab on EQ anymore

I am playing a lot so I'll update this post if I get more

Edit: mega drain Kabuto beats leech life kabuto

Edit: protect/toxic/sub/rest Vulpix wins

Edit: EQ/protect/swords dance Sandshrew can win if you're lucky not getting hit with seismic toss or affected by sand attack. Can probably also make magic with protect/toxic/sub/rest

AS it turns out the master trainers' mons stats which I copied from serebii are literally impossible as written :) thanks serebii

i cant find another source for these mons and i cant like find a cheat code to catch trainers mons that would allow me to check in pkhex or something either :) :) :)

i can either remove stats from my pages or i can try to calculate the stats using the avs serebii posted or i guess i could use pkhex to painstakingly adjust my mons until i can get a decent idea of what their stat might be based on damage calcs !!!

EDIT NEVER MIND the calculator my friend was using was wrong

Some updates from more attempts tho:

Diglett has Dig and Sucker Punch, allowing you to again do some EQ/protect stuff to kill it with either Diglett or A-Diglett. It will ohko with Sucker Punch but you can add Sub on your set to stall out sucker punch pp and force it to dig which you can outpredict easily.

Charmeleon has Dig and Outrage. Both of them OHKO but it seems more likely to use Dig than Outrage, which you can out predict... with your own Dig, since you're slower. Sub and Protect can go on here too to help with dealing with Outrage, although admittedly I didn't need to resort to that since the win I had, enemy charmeleon only ever clicked Dig.

I'm playing Let's Go Pikachu, so I have the busted starter Pikachu to use for the Pikachu battle. Mine is level 64 so higher leveled than the other mons I'm trying these challenges with. Reflect/Splishy Splash spam got the job done, there was a lucky Toxic miss but tbh you should be able to do it anyway or just put Sub or Rest or something on.

Regular Pikachu can win around lv 50 with Sub/Protect/Toxic/Rest, basically the same strat the enemy uses except you dont faint first to poison because you use Rest.

Voltorb is an easy kill with Mirror Coat.

I beat Lapras with Megahorn/Protect/Sub/Confuse Ray but it involved a lot of luck, this is probably better suited for higher levels where Megahorn can do more damage.
