Lanturn's unique resistances, utility, and amazing ability in Volt Absorb make it a good pivot in the tier that can switch into Electric-types like Rotom, Rotom-F, Rotom-S, and Togedemaru. Volt Switch allows Lanturn to pivot out of its checks and gain momentum. Scald cripples physical attackers like Toxicroak, Kangaskhan, and Gourgeist-S thanks to the burn chance and is rarely punished. Toxic allows Lanturn to cripple Pokemon that would switch into its STAB moves, such as Abomasnow, Decidueye, and Eldegoss. Heal Bell heals status from Lanturn and its teammates, but Protect is another option to scout the foe's moves, easing prediction. Alternatively, a RestTalk set improves Lanturn's longevity at the cost of team utility. 76 Speed EVs allow Lanturn to outspeed defensive Alcremie, as well as Wishiwashi, and the remaining EVs improve its overall bulk.

The three of them, along with Abomasnow and Decidueye, can also switch into Ground-types like Sandaconda. Because of Lanturn's bad physical bulk, physically defensive Pokemon such as Cofagrigus and Ferroseed pair well with it. Cofagrigus as well as physical attackers like Sawk, Toxicroak, and Unfezant also appreciate Lanturn's Heal Bell to cure status conditions for them.
