Jolteon is OU.
Hi everyone, i've been lurking around on the OU forums for a while now and finally decided to post one of my teams, themed around (mostly) Gary Oak's pokémon. I mainly play OU and enjoy using not conventional pokemon from lower tiers, usually avoiding the most OP mons out there. I've recently found some success with this squad, using Jolteon and Scizor, and wanted to share for some tips on how to make it even better - although I'm pretty sure a better player could pilot this team to actually high ladder.
Let's get into it:
Jolteon
Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Tera Blast
Jolteon is the mon I wanted to build the team around. He's super cool and most importantly, super fast. In fact, Jolteon can outspeed and severly damage everything besides Timid Dragapult, making it a pretty strong option overall. Greninja gets taken out by Thunderbolt, Modest Dragapult is destroied by Shadow Ball and Meowscarada gets roasted by Tera Blast Ice, alongside Tusk, Dragonite and Garchomp. Toxapex and Corv get two hit KO'd by Thunderbolt also. Heavy-duty boots is the item of choice since Jolteon get's in and out of battle pretty often, pivoting with Scizor.
Ting-Lu
Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 SpD/ 4 Def
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Ruination
- Stealth Rocks
- Whirlwind
Pretty standard set. I've never really used Ting-Lu too much before, but damn is this thing strong. It walls Moth, Skelledirge, Zoroark, Dragapult and many other special attackers. Heck, even Walking Wake can't take it out in one hit before getting chunked down by Ruination. Leftovers gives it a little bit of longevity and Rocks chips down opposing pokemon alongside Whirwind over time. That last move is also pretty usefull to disrupt opposing setup sweepers.
Hatterene
Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP/ 176 Def/ 80 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Psyshock
- Mystical Fire
Another mon i've never given a chance until now. Hatterene is a mixed wall, capable of sponging hits from Iron Valiant, Tusk and a few others in a pinch. Magic Bounce is super usefull against Amoongus Spore and Hazard setters. If this thing gets the chance to setup a Calm Mind or two it could mean Game Over, especially with Tera Water removing it's Ghost weakness. Draning Kiss assures Hatterene beats most Dragon types one on one, Psyshock hits Amoongus really hard and Mystical Fire is here to hit Scizor, Gholdengo and Corviknight on the switch.
Scizor
Leftovers
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP/ 16 Atk/ 208 Def/ 32 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Close Combat
Love this mon. Losing Roost hurts, but leftovers gives Scizor a bit of longevity. Max HP and Def investment are for tanking Kingambit and Baxcalibur and threatening big damage with Close Combat (One Hit K.O.) and Bullet Punch respectivelly. U-turn works great with Jolteon's Volt Switch. Swords Dance + Bullet Punch + Tera Steel can sweep some teams late game, so be on the lookout for those opportunities. 32 speed EV's are just enough to outspeed standard Kingambit sets.
Glimmora
Leftovers
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Bomb
- Spiky Shield
- Mortal Spin
Unnusual set for sure, but Glimmora is a beast. Earth Power + Sludge Bomb hits most pokemon for at least neutral damage with an uninvested 297 SpA stat. Mortal Spin is here for hazard control along Magic Bounce + spreading poison. Spiky Shield stalls out precious turns for Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery, besides damaging physical attackers. Max HP and Def make Glimmora a pretty decent physical wall, creating more opportunities to setup Toxic Spikes via Toxic Debris.
Dragonite
Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Extremespeed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
Dragonite is the main wallbreaker of the team. Outrage decimates everything that is not Fairy or Steel type, two hit KOeing some Toxapex variants, Amoongus, Clodsire and even some Great Tusks. Earthquake hits Gholdengo, Clodsire, Skeledirge and Garganacl, wich is one of the scariest mons to face with this team in my experience. Fire Punch does big boy damage to Corviknight and Amoongus + Baloon Gholdengo and Magnezone. Adamant Tera Normal Extremespeed is absolutely insane at revenge killing faster pokemon and worn down setup sweepers. No Heavy-duty boots is a problem though, so try to bring Dragonite in safely to preserve Multiscale.
Sorry for any spelling mistakes, but english is not my first language. Thanks in advance for any input on the team!
