Jangmo-o [QC 1/3] [GP0/2]

[OVERVIEW]
  • Jangmo-o has no major place in SM LC meta as it is outclassed by other dragon dance cleaners such as axew & dratini. Axew has better stats, making it clearly better, while Dratini has access to extreme speed giving it a nice niche.
  • Jangmo-o is mainly used as a late game sweeper/cleaner, with access to dragon dance.
  • Jangmo-o is a pitiful mix of frail, weak, and slow, so it is not easy to set up.
  • Jangmo-o is a reliable sun counter with its niche being its ability and the only reason to run him instead of other dragon dance users.
  • Bulletproof allows Jangmo-o to be immune to shadowball, sludgebomb, weatherball, focus blast, and any other ball type moves making him a good check to pokemon like bellsprout, and gastly.
  • Jangmo-o is mediocre at best as it has poor stats that make it not able to do too much with out support.
  • Janmo-o strugles with pokemon like snubbull and spritzee, as he has no coverage to hit faries super effectively.

[SET]
Name: Set Up Cleaner
Move 1: Dragon Dance
Move 2: Outrage / Dragon Claw
Move 3: Earthquake
Move 4: Brick Break / Substitute
Item: Berry Juice
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Bulletproof
Evs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Dragon Dance allows Jangmo-o to recieve a +1 in attack and speed, which helps Jang to sweep
  • Outrage is Jangmo-o's main attack, and although not optimal to be locked in to, when foes are weakened, outrage is used to clean.
  • Dragon Claw is another option over outrage, and although it does not offer as much damage, it is helpful to not be locked in to a move.
  • Earthquake is mandatory on janmo-o as it allows Jang to hit fairy types for neutral damage, wile hitting relevant steel types like Pawniard and magnemite that resists Janmgo-o's stab attacks.
  • Brick Break offers great coverage for Jangmo-o, and it allows him to hit steel-types such as Pawniard, Magnemite, and ferroseed for super effective damage.
  • Substitute allows Jangmo-o to avoid status moves like thunder wave and Will-o-wisp from pokemon like WoW gastly, and sleep powder bellsporut, although those pokemon usually outspeed.

Set Details
========
  • 236 Spd, with an nonsupporting nature allows Jangmo-o to hit 14 out pacing the 13 mons before a boost. A prime example of a mon that Jang can out speed in Magnemite.
  • 200+ attack allows Jangmo-o to hit as hard as he can while still being heavially invested into speed. Jangmo-o reaches a mediocre 15 attack before a boost.
  • Adamant nature is optimal as Jangmo-o does not outspeed anything relevant with a jolly nature.
  • Berry Juice is the ideal item for janmo-o, to regain health and support the sweep better, also healing substitute damage.
  • Berry Juice is used on substitute sets as it heals Jangmo-o to full when he is below 50%
  • +1 236+ Atk Jangmo-o Outrage vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Vullaby: 15-18 (60 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • +1 236+ Atk Jangmo-o Outrage vs. 0 HP / 196 Def Eviolite Mienfoo: 15-18 (71.4 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • +1 236+ Atk Jangmo-o Outrage vs. 0 HP / 52 Def Chinchou: 25-31 (104.1 - 129.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 236+ Atk Jangmo-o Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gastly: 24-28 (126.3 - 147.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • +1 236+ Atk Jangmo-o Outrage vs. 0 HP / 156 Def Eviolite Timburr: 15-18 (62.5 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Usage Tips
========

  • Jangmo-o should first enter the field when Fairy-types like snubbull and spritzee are taken out, which is usually late game.
  • Play in fear of status moves by using substitute to avoid them. Status moves can hinder Jangmo-o to the extent is is virtually useless.
  • Setup opportunities for Jangmo-o are limited. As previosuly stated, substituting on forced switches are optimal, but Jangmo-o can set up on pokemon like bellsprout as he is hard walled due to Jangmo-o's ability. Jangmo-o is immune to sludge bomb, weather ball, and resists soalr beam.
  • Janmo-o can setup on Pokemon like Gastly and Foongus, as he resists all of their stab, and Foongus will usually go for spore, which allows a free substitute.
  • Jangmo-o can not set up on faster pokemon as he will usually be killed to to his poor defenses such as Doudo. Likewise, other set up pokemon line Nasty Plot Vullaby, Jangmo-o can not set up on faster pokemon like Abra, Doduo, and Mienfoo
  • Jangmo-o can set up on Pokemon like Gastly and Foongus, as Foongus will usually go for spore which is avoided with substitute.

Team Options
========

  • Steel types are great partners for janmo-o as they can take on dragon, fairy, and ice types that Jangmo-o is weak to. Pawinard, in spesific, is a great partner as an outstanding wallbreaker.
  • Poison-types in general are effective at walling and removing fairy types, pokemon like gastly and foongus are goon partners.
  • Jangmo-o fits well on a bulky offensive team as he appreciates foes being weakened for a sweep.
  • Volt-Turn teams work well with Jangmo-o, bringing him in for free often; therefore, pokeomn like vullaby and chinchou are good partners.
  • Wallbreakers support Jangmo-o very well, corphish can punch holes allowing Janmo-o to sweep late game.
  • Jangmo-o hates to be whittled as his only recovery is berry juice; therefore, hazard removal like staryu makes a good partner.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Another good set to run on Jangmo-o is the swords dance set, as it replaces speed for raw power.
  • Choice scarf Jangmo-o is plausible, but outclassed by many other scarfers such as Axew.
  • Swords dance sets thrive under sticky webs, and can instead be used over dragon dance.
  • Aerial Ace can be used instead of other coverage to deal with pokemon like Cottonee and Morelull, which resist this set entirely.
  • A defensive set with Bulk Up can be used, but due to Janmo-o's poor defences, and limited recovery to rest, he is outclassed by other Bulk Up users like timburr.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types hard wall this Jangmo-o set, examples of common Fairty-types that can deal with Janmo-o include Cottonee, Spritzee, morelull, and snubbull. \
**Steel-types**: The majority of Steel-types can take a hit from Janmo-o and cripple it with an attack or status move. Some spesific Pokemon that wll Janmo-o include Bronzor and ferroseed, who does have to fear Brick Break.
**Revenge Killers**: With Jangmo-o's average speed, even at 1, choice scarfers can kill it.

**Revenge Killers**: Jangmo-o with its average speed is easily killed by faster pokemon like abra or vullaby, or choice scarfed users like Axew. Priority like ice shard Shelder can easily take down Jangmo-o as it is very weak and worn down quickly.
**Phyical walls**: Physical walls put a halt to Jangmo-o especially if they have access to reliabe recovery. Pokemon like mudbray or marenaie can wall Jangmo-o.
**Status**: Staus moves are Jangmo-o's downfall, as Jang can only avoid them if runniing substitute, and due to its average speed some status pokemon like cottonee can paralyze or sleep Jangmo-o.

AM QC Check - this is not worth 1/3

Overall, this analysis has a lot of things that need to be made more specific. You also need to go into detail about a lot of things, as I don't think Jangmo-o's only options for partners are Gastly and Pawniard. Here are some things I'd like to address. You should also use the template the reservation thread provides you with to format this.

Overview
* Saying it has no major place in the meta is a little vague. Explain why it isn't very viable. Good reasons for this would be competition from Axew/Dratini as a Dragon Dancer and the tier's multitude of defensive mons that can beat Jangmo-o, like Mudbray and Spritzee.
* You also don't need to mention its a dragon type, rather just say it only has use as a late game cleaner.
* Reliable set up isn't something i'd say Jangmo-o has given its poor bulk, so say it has a hard time setting up and take out the part where you say its optimal that it sets up reliably, since that isn't realistic.
* Don't say that it's bad at revenge killing. While it is indeed bad, it doesn't have a role as a revenge killer.
* Emphasize its mediocrity. Jangmo-o is this bad combination of slow, frail and not powerful, and that isn't touched on too much imo.

Set
* I don't think Taunt is worthy of being on this set. It isn't bulky or fast enough to reliably use it. Earthquake/Substitue should be the last moveslot, since sub is fine and eq allows it to actually hurt fairies.
* Slash Dragon Claw with Outrage, it's a very plausible option since being locked onto outrage isn't great at times.
* You need to include an ability

Moves
* Remove Taunt mentions
* Add EQ
* Add Dragon Claw

Set Details
* You should mention that 15 attack is mediocre.
* Don't use "I recommend." and remove mentions of taunt
* After including an ability, talk about why said ability is best for Jangmo-o. I'd suggest slashing overcoat with bulletproof since overcoat allows it to avoid sleep powder and stun spore, while bulletproof is good for avoiding weather ball and seed bomb and what not.
* Mention some calcs. What can Jangmo-o 2HKO after a boost with its attack EVs? What does it outspeed?
* Just say that Lum Berry can cure Jangmo-o's confusion after its outrage is finished and can cure it of any status ailments its inflicted with, while berry juice heals its HP to full after its taken some hits. Your phrasing kinda drags on when you're talking about these items.

Usage Tips
* There is WAY more that should be added here. You should also reword pretty much all of your bullet points. "Jangmo-o is best used late game, as it can break through weakened threats to more success." and "It is best to start setting up with Jangmo-o after Fairy-types are removed, as common Pokemon of the type in Snubbull and Spritzee can wall Jangmo-o." are both similar to how it should look.
* What does it mean to use Jangmo-o aggressively? This really just doesn't make sense.
* Talk about how Substitute can be used when forcing switches. This'll guarantee at least one DD.
* Mention that Jangmo-o should be wary of status and priority, its very vulnerable to both of these things.
* Talk about its set up opportunities. What can it set up on and why can it set up on said pokemon?

Other Options
* Ig this is fine, you could probably add a little more but I'm running out of time and can't mention too much, you can figure some stuff out.

Checks and Counters
Elaborate a little more on all of these, but also add faster pokemon (before jang sets up), powerful attackers and physical walls, as well as status and priority.

Thanks sp much for the feedback, I implemented your feedback and made changes. Thanks!

[OVERVIEW]
  • Mention the reasons why Jangmo-o is outclassed: Axew is stronger and has better coverage, while Dratini has Extreme Speed.
  • Merge the points about Jangmo-o being a late game sweeper and Dragon Dance, as the DDance is the reason it is a late game sweeper.
  • Mention Jangmo-o's excellent ability giving it a niche. This is very important as it is the only reason to use it over Axew and Dratini. Bulletproof protects it against moves like Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, and Sludge Bomb, making into a good counter to Gastly and Bellsprout as it either resists are is immune to all their common moves, allowing Jangmo-o to set up on them.
  • Mention Jangmo-o's decent defensive typing giving it resistances to common Grass-, Fire-, Water-, and Electric-type moves.
  • Mention the reason that Jangmo-o is a reliable sun counter: resists Solar Beam and Fire Blast, while immune to Sludge Bomb and Weather Ball thanks to Bulletproof
  • Mention that Jangmo-o struggles because of common Fairy-types such as Spritzee and Snubbul, as it has no coverage to hit them super effectively.

[SET]
Name: Set Up Cleaner
Move 1: Dragon Dance
Move 2: Outrage / Dragon Claw
Move 3: Earthquake
Move 4: Substitute / Brick Break
Item: Berry Juice
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Bulletproof
Evs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe
  • Earthquake is mandatory, as it hits the same Steel-types that Brick Break hits, while being more powerful and hitting Fairy-types neutrally. There are only three Pokemon in LC that resist the combination of Outrage / Dragon Claw + Earthquake (Morellul + Cottonee + Bronzor). Substitute is a nice option to keep Jangmo-o safe while setting up (also avoids Sleep Powder from Bellsprout and WoW from Gastly, both of which Jangmo-o wants to set up on, though they will usually outspeed anyway), while Brick Break hits certain Steel-types harder than Earthquake, such as Ferroseed and Pawniard, 2HKOing the former at +1 with some prior damage, while Pawniard is always OHKOed after rocks where EQ 2HKOes.
  • Deslash Lum Berry, it's not worth it. Once Jangmo-o has set up and is trying to clean, clicking Outrage once is hopefully enough. Otherwise, the nerfed confusion chance means that your sweep will usually continue anyway.
  • 236 Attack EVs hit one point higher than 200, allowing Jangmo-o to hit as hard as possible. Also, just so you know, 200 Attack EVs hits the same stat point as 156, so there's no reason to invest that many. The abbreviation for Speed is also Spe, not Spd (this is to similar to SpD, which is Special Defense).

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Mention some calcs where Outrage is better than Dragon Claw (2HKOes offensive Vullaby at +1 after rocks, always 2HKOes Timburr at +1, chance to OHKO Bellsprout at +1, OHKOes Gastly with no boost)
  • Reorder the explanation to match the new slashing, and add the explanations I gave above

Set Details
========
  • Don't use abbreviations for stats here, always write them out (Speed instead of Spd). Also mention that 14 Speed allows Jangmo-o to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame at +1
  • Change the Attack mention to the new EVs
  • Remove Lum Berry mentions, and explain that Berry Juice is useful in bringing Jangmo-o back up to full HP if it takes a hit while trying to set up
  • Mention that Adamant allows Jangmo-o to hit as hard as possible, thus allowing it to perform its role as a cleaner as well as possible
  • Never write out calcs in an analysis. You can mention them by just saying that something is 2HKOed or OHKOed, but don't write them out. They are also not correct anymore since we changed the Attack EVs

Usage Tips
========
  • Merge the first two points, as Fairy-types usually won't be taken out until the late game.
  • Because Jangmo-o is quite weak, it will rarely force a swap unless it's against a Pokemon that it completely walls because of Bulletproof, which you cover in another point. Thus remove this one ('Substitute is optimally used when Jangmo-o forces a swap, as it ensures that one Dragon Dance can be used.')
  • Mention Gastly and Foongus as Pokemon Jangmo-o can set up on, especially because Foongus will usually go for Spore, which can be avoided by using Substitute. Also don't use Yoda language in this point ('Moves like weatherball and sludge bomb, Jang is immune to.')
  • Mention examples of faster Pokemon Jangmo-o can't set up on (Abra, Mienfoo, Doduo)
  • Mention that due to Jangmo-o's frailty, it should not be brought in on attacks directly. In stead, bring it in on an attack it is immune to thanks to Bulletproof, or via a slow Volt Switch or U-turn.

Team Options
========
  • Your first sentence is worded poorly. Just say 'Steel-types such as Pawniard are great partners for Jangmo-o, as they can take on Fairy-, Ice-, and Dragon-types.'
  • Mention Poison-types in general instead of just Gastly, as Foongus and Mareanie can also give Fairy-types trouble
  • Mention wallbreakers such as Corphish and Pawniard as teammates that can break through Jangmo-o's counters.
  • Mention Volt Switch and U-turn users such as Chinchou and Vullaby, as they can bring in Jangmo-o for free. Mention that Vullaby can also remove hazards with Defog
  • Remove the Sticky Web point: it is better suited for a Swords Dance set. This set sets up its own Speed, so it doesn't need that support.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Mention that the Swords Dance set can be used as a cleaner for Sticky Web teams
  • Capitalize Axew
  • Mention Aerial Ace as an option, as it can 2HKO Cottonee which otherwise walls Jangmo-o, and 2HKOes Mienfoo and Timburr for sets lacking Outrage, but it is usually outclassed by other coverage options or Substitute, as Outrage usually outdamages even a super effective Aerial Ace
  • Mention a more defensive set that uses Bulk Up to set up, but say that Jangmo-o's low bulk and lack of recovery outside of Rest makes this outclassed by other Bulk Up users such as Timburr

Checks and Counters
===================
  • Fix the formatting. The headers should look like this: **Fairy-types**:, and there should be blank lines in between each section.
  • Put the priority users and faster Pokemon inside of the revenge killers section
  • Remove the Hail teams section, hail teams are not relevant.
  • Mention examples. Cottonee, Spritzee and Snubbull for Fairy-types, Doduo, Abra, and Mienfoo for faster Pokemon/revenge killers, Timburr and Shellder as priority users (same section of course).
  • Mention Steel-types, and give a specific mention to Ferroseed and Bronzor as they can both take any hit from Jangmo-o (though Ferro has to fear Brick Break, mention this as well).

Make sure to implement all this, then you have QC 1/3
