IV-EV Calculator

This is mainly to Metalkid, but others may comment. You may know that by using Rare Candies, you can calculate the IV's of your Pokémon. What you may not know is that you can calulate the EV's of your Pokémon by using the six EV-reducing berries. Metalkid, you can work on this, but you would enter your Pokémon's stats as-is, and their stats with 0 EV's (after using 11 of each berry), both for several levels. The calculator would then spit out the probable IV's and EV's, and if necessary, directions on how to make it more specific (kind of like Metalkid's current IV calculator does, but it would calculate both IV's and EV's). The EV's would be in a 4-EV range, although complex EV training, as directed by the calculator, could narrow that down further into a specific EV spread. Metalkid's idea about fractional stats would really come in handy with this very complex calculator.

The amount that EVs affect a stat isn't dependent on the IV though.... so... yeah. Doesn't matter.

I kinda see what you are saying. Though, 4 EVs won't necessarily equal 1 stat point. That is only at level 100. At lower levels, it takes a lot more than 4, so it would be a much larger range. Though, I'm sure I can add some sort of calculator to the program to figure something like this out for you.

The fractional stat really only applies to finding IVs. I don't think it would have much of an impact on trying to figure out your EVs.

At lower levels, it would. If you look at the formula, you will see that 1 IV = 4 EV's, with no exceptions. Anything that would help with IV's would most certainly help with EV's.

...but at low levels 4 EVs isn't always the same fraction of a point. At Level 5 for example it depends on the base stats. To add 3 points to Base 80 SAtk, you need 196 EVs with a 31 IV. Base 85 needs 236. So how can 1 IV always exactly equal 4 EVs? Am I missing something?

Yes, you are. It's the same way with IV's as it is with EV's. The stat formula is Level*(2*Base+IV+EV/4)/100 with some other stuff in it (the other stuff does not include IV's or EV's). As you can see, the IV's and the EV's are always related by a factor of 4; that is that four EV's ALWAYS equals one IV.

Seems to me like the return on investment isn't very good for something like this. If you're seriously training something up, then you should take the effort to KEEP TRACK of what EVs you've accumulated. It really doesn't take that long to accumulate the correct EVs when you use vitamins, pokerus, and the power items.

This calculator would be mainly used for traded Pokémon. You are Absol-utely correct (pun intended) when you say that serious battlers would keep track of things. When trading, it is easy, though, to say that a 11/11/11/11/11/11 IV, 80/80/80/80/80/80 EV Pokémon is really a 31/31/31/31/31/31 IV, 0/0/0/0/0/0 EV, as the stats are the same. The difference is that the 31 IV Pokémon has lots more potential and trade value. This calculator would keep the liars at bay somewhat. Also, I hear countless stories of IV calculators not working because someone calculated the EV training incorrectly. It is always a good idea to double-check these secret stats.

personally, i just save my game first, then spam ev-reducing berries on all stats to see if a traded poke was ev-trained or not. but still, it's a great idea

I know. That is what the calculator would require. The difference is, it would tell the exact EV's (and IV's) with fewer berries and Rare Candies (no more having to go to L100 for the exact EV's)
