It doesn't look much like a scorpion to me... (Drapion Discussion)

Drapion

Stats:
HP: 70
Attack: 90
Defense: 110
Special Attack: 60
Special Defense: 75
Speed: 95

Notable Physical Movepool:
Night Slash
Poison Jab
Rock Climb
Rock Slide
Earthquake
Aerial Ace
Cross Poison
Crunch
Slash
Knock Off
Thunder Fang
Ice Fang
Fire Fang

His special sucks, and I'm not even going to bother.

Notable Support Movepool:
Toxic Spikes
Acupressure
Roar
Toxic
Swords Dance
Whirlwind
Agility

Adamant Sniper Drapion @ Life Orb
252 ATK, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Fire Fang/Earthquake/Crunch
Ice Fang/Earthquake/Crunch
Thunder Fang/Earthquake/Crunch
Swords Dance

Physical Sweeper. He has a nice variety of moves, so choose what you want.

Adamant Sniper Drapion @ Razor Claw
252 ATK, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Night Slash
Cross Poison
Slash
Filler

CHaxer. Not as annoying as super luck pokemon- until a move hits. Then Sniper kicks in, and it hurts.

It has a few other options, like Phazing and Tspikes. I'm not sure how those would work, though.

This was my first topic of the kind. How are my sets?

he's got the defenses to be a phazer and spiker/Annoyer

Drapion@Leftovers
252 HP/252 Spd/6 Atk
-Poison Spikes/Toxic
-Whirlwind
-Knock Off
-Acupressure/Earthquake

Either lay down PS and shuffle through their team, or Toxic their team and shuffle at the same time. Knock Off to get rid of ever-important items. The last slot either lets you hope for something useful, or use Earthquake to hit Steels that you can't Poison.

Poison/Dark is not a bad typing, but it isn't great either. As much as I want to use Drapion, he just does not seem appealing to me. CH is his best option I think, but wow, look at that support movepool. 'Tis a shame he did not get Baton Pass.

If you add Taunt, he will not be subject to Skarmory's wrath.
He also learns Brick Break.

I'll probably go with the CH hax if I ever do use him.

@Life Orb
Night Slash
Thunder/Fire Fang
Earthquake
Swords Dance

Earthquake destroys Heatran, but I really cant see him switch in. Thunder/Fire Fang hurts Skarmory and has a chance to critical, which should take off a chunk of its health.

Knock Off could be useful in a supporting set.

@leftovers
-Knock Off
-Taunt/Whirlwind
-Screech
-Night Slash

Smack anything with Screech, and then start Knocking Off items. Taunt can be used to prevent Stat-ups if Whirlwind and Screech is illegal.

hell? No fans of Implish Drapions?
Defense IS his best stat you know.
Pretty big Drapion user here.
I been running 252defense, 228speed and 28 atk with decent success.
If your a fan of the speed, moving it to HP could work.

Drapion is a pokemon that relys on luck, so a traditional sweeper set won't work because he isn't a sweeper. The more turns he has, the more chances to snipe.

A Drapion user knows how to go in, take 1-2 attacks, then survey the situatuion and switch out.

With:
ToxicSpikes
EQ
NightSlash
RockSlide

Guess you can replace spikes with SD if your not a TS fan.

I know for certain that they fade out when a poison type is brought in. Probably works the same if a steel type comes in.

wow that's sucks.. too bad it's not the same with stealth rock and spikes :P
anyway how about this set:
drapion @ poison leftovers/critical hit item
jolly - ev's in attack and speed
sniper
moveset:
sword dance
brick break
night slash
cross poison

sword dance on a switch and hope u get lucky

I kind of like this moveset.

Drapion @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 DEF/129 ATT/129 SPD
Impish, Sniper
Toxic Spikes
Earthquake
Acupressure/Agility/Swords Dance
Whirlwind/Cross Poison

You could spike & shuffle with whirlwind to get some quick damage on the opponent (you'll need to use acupressure or agility first). Pick your stat-boosting moves. I personally like acupressure. This move is helpful for boosting his HP, ATT, DEF, SPD, and SP. D (not his SP. A or HP). So, basically, you have a four out five chance to boost a helpful stat for Drapion. Earthquake anything steel or posion (they make toxic spikes go away).

Your numbers are off. Acupressure can raise Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, Special Defense, Accuracy, or Evasion.

Thats pretty much the perfect way to describe Drapion, but one thing it has goin for it is unpredictability not comparable to such things as Gengar and Lucario but it has a great movepool and decent stats, so it isnt a bad pkmn

^drapion wont be Bl... or MU, cause there is no such thing.
any ways, I made this set a long time ago,
toxic spikes, whirlwind, EQ, crunch
look: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21176

whirlwing and poison evreything, and when a metagross pops out(it's immune to poison), EQ it. This is beast used with a gliscor cause if you whirlwind out a hera, you're dead shit.

Theres always that frustrating bit about Draipon being weak to Ground attacks that will keep him from functioning well against physical sweepers. He could probably take one EQ from a Gyarados, but won't take any from Donphan or Garchomp. Even in MU he has to deal with Nidoking and Golem.

Basically, Draipon has a very narrow range of targets: Special Sweepers, Passers, and Special Walls. If Draipon lands a crit on one of them, he'll probably KO it right there so long as it's not resistant to his attack (Steel types are a real problem).

In order to give Draipon a use beyond this narrow range of targets, he should forego attack moves beyond Cross Poison and Night Slash and go for Whirlwind and Toxic Spikes for the other two. In order to live long enough to make use of those moves, a user should spend only enough EV's in Speed and Attack to outspeed a slow sweeper and invest the rest in Defense and HP so he can take a few hits and set out a couple Toxic Spikes before you move on to the next 'mon.

Drapion @ Black Sludge
Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP/ 200 Def/ 56 Spd
-Knock Off
-Thunder Fang
-Ice Fang
-Whirlwind

Covers Dragons and Gyarados. Whirlwind to Phaze things. You can put Cross Poison instead of one of the Fangs, of course.

The fact that Toxic Spikes are absorbed by Poison-types isn't really relevant to their usefulness. The most popular Poison-type is Gengar, who floats over the spikes. The second is Weezing, who also does so. Those are the only two that are really commonly used. More worrying for a team that relies on Toxic Spikes are all the Flying or Steel Pokemon the Spikes don't touch; stalling to let the Spikes take effect is difficult when Skarmory, Cresselia, Bronzong, etc. aren't hurt by the poison.

Drapion is cool as, he can do heaps of things and he's not as bad as some people think, sure he doesn't excel as a physical sweeper, or as a physical wall, or as a support pokemon.

Maybe because he isn't supposed to be any of those.

The whole idea is to play off his Sniper ability, and hit things for criticals, if something comes in that his moves aren't so crash hot on, get him out of there.
Much like a real sniper, takes a shot and pisses off.
Drapion takes his shot and pisses off.

I'd be using something more along these lines:

DRAPION @ Scope Lens
Sniper
Impish
- Night Slash
- Brick Break (purely for Steels, hits Skarmory too)
- Taunt
- Substitute/Swords Dance/Acupressure

EV's I don't know, 252 defence is a given, whatever speed amount he needs to beat out neutral base 90 speed pokemon who have it maxed would be ideal, but some HP would be nice.

Swords Dance isn't necessary neither is Acupressure, I'd use Substitute, since basically you just want to be dealing out critical hits with Night Slash.
Cross Poison is not an option, only SE on Grass, which Night Slash hits, and Night Slash also hits poison, ground, rock and ghosts aswell, just doesn't hit Steels too hard hence Brick Break.

I hear steel absorbs them. So its Lucario I think you you have to worry about most with Toxic spikes.
