Is there such thing as a Shiny Mystry Mew?

I’m sure everyone here remembers the Toysrus mystry mew giveaway that happened almost a year ago. Well apparently there are rumors that both say and also dispute each other of some getting shiny mystry mews from the giveaway event.

Recently I got one myself through a trade with a fellow player here at Serebii.net wifi-chat. Traded a level 10 hadou mew for what seemed at the time to be a legit shiny mystry mew. The OT and ID numbers seem to check out. But what ticked me off was the level 37 arrived from hoenn and the presence of pokerus. To make matters worse it seems eerily similar to this other fake mystry mew I got a few weeks earlier also at level 37 with correct OT and ID number. However after talking to the operators of the chatroom here it seems that it might have been fake since the MYSTRY OT name was not in red but in blue.

Well below are the screen caps of my legit? Shiny mystry mew in question.

So is this thing real or fake?


Additionally I have to ask this one. Are mystry mews OT lettering supposed to be red or blue? i've had both mystry mews with red and blue OT lettering and the same identical ID number

It's really hard to say. I've heard some people claim to have recieved legit shiny mystery mews, but I unfortunately am unsure of this. Reguarding your mew, it's really easy to hack something to look exactly like that. "Looking" legit is not proof at all these days sadly.
 
well was your hadou mew shiny? cause then you have to ask yourself why would someone trade a shiny legit mew for a lower lvl non shiny mew? course if you are really desperate to know you can check the secretID
 
As Seph said, you can't really tell anymore as it's possible to hack Pokemon the way that even Nintendo's checking devices can't tell they're sharked. However, I know Jumpman went to the event and got to check on the tons of Mews for download and he didn't mention any shiny Mews in his topic (and he did check the natures until he found the right one, Modest in his case iirc). Then again, I know he got there kinda late in the days of the event so it could have been downloaded before that.

SecretID? I've heard about that in some in closer knit groups. What is that exactly and how can I look it up? what's the standard secretID of a legit mystry mew?


Oh and thanks for the feedback guys. Your comments are just what I was expecting. In this day and age hacking pokemon sprites that look identical to the real thing are a sinch. Still inconclusive and don't know whether this thing is fake or not. How sad. At the very least i hope i can use this thing in Battle Revolution when it comes out Stateside next week.
 
well the existance of a shiny mystry mew isn't impossible. the pokemon they give away are all randomly generated, when i went to the 10th anniversary one of the operator dudes offered to let me go through his computer thing and search for the celebi i wanted. apparently they pre-generate a couple thousand randomly. i didn't feel like looking through all of those for one that was shiny and/or had flawless IVs so i just took the first timid celebi i saw.

anyways. i'd say the one you have is fake, because of the level, there is always a chance that the arrived from hoenn thing is some weird side effect of pal park.

indeed but there is also a possibility that it was trained by some guy but later didn't want it anymore. And the Hoenn thing just states when the pokemon was imported from emerald or whatever it was from. it never says what level the pokemon arrived in the gba cart. But even if it was at level 10 its still kind of a stretch to believe its real. is it not? I mean theres nothing to prevent hackers from not producing a level 10 mystry mew. so why not a shiny level 10 mystry mew?

its so hard to find out these days......whats real and whats not. Guess the real test will come when battle revolution arrives. Hope I can use it in wifi battles.
 
If you want to compare, here are pictures of the Mew I got from the ToysRUs event. It is untouched to now, mainly because it has really bad IVs and a bad nature (and I don't use ubers). I still cherish it though.:)

The pics have a large resolution so I'll just link to them.

The only GenIII game I've ever bought was FireRed, but it says it comes from Hoenn. I know why, though. I never heard anyone else get a shiny Mew while I was waiting in line, by the way.

Hmm interesting to note that the lettering on your mystry mew's OT is blue. Are all Mystry mews like that? What;s with the blue and red colour difference.



Also I wouldn't really say giveway . I did afterall trade a level 10 untouched Hadou mew away. the person who traded me the Shiny mew in question claimed he had two and thus since he was a event pokemon fanatic gave me his second one. of which he conveniently infected with Pokerus from his psyduck. Hmm whats more he wasn't sure if its real either since he got the mew in question in a trade from his cousin who in turn got it from somewhere else.

yes but i thought these were handed out from a stale cartridge. So how can gender be factored into the equation? unless it changes colour according to the gender that "you are" when you get the mew for the first time.

If I had one, and there was a way I could clone it risk-free (like if it was on my copy of Emerald), I wouldn't mind trading it out for other events. I may have second thoughts, though.
 
I guess you can't tell unless you know how event Pokémon are generated. If the process is similar to those in-game it should be entirely possible to get a shiny one. But you will probably never know so don't put to much value in it, and at least assume it has been cloned in Emerald.

As i explained before. the guy who traded it to me already had one level 10 and untouched. Theres no sense in keeping two of them. unless he really wanted to. which he did until i came along.
 
I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that there _are_ shiny ones. If this one is legit or not I couldn't tell you, but the possibility is entirely there.
 
Well regardless of the inconclusive results, thanks for your input guys.
I'd just be happy if my Mew can be used in Pokemon Battle revolution coming stateside next week.

additionally if anyone else has anything to add please do post.
 
Umm, as long as your pokemon comes with legal IV/Moves/EVs, they can be placed in PBR. I've seen a video where someone used a Shiny Aerodactyl caught in a Master Ball

Really? I thought that it went:

Red=Shiny
Blue=Not Shiny

Not sure though. :/ I would have to check after transferring my shiny pidgey, xatu, zigzagoon (caught naturally) and my other zigzagoon(Berry Glitch Fix) from my Emerald Cartridge, and after I get a DS and Pokemon Diamond. >.<

Pretty sure that happens only on the pokemon number you see (151 for Mew, 386 for Deoxys, 491 for Darkrai, etc)
