Draft Inteleon

AceTrainerOrange

formerly orangelego21
[overview]

**Draft Order**: Round 7 onward

**Price Range**: 5-6 points

**Overview**: Inteleon is a budget Water-type special wallbreaker with a great Speed tier and some decent utility options. It can take advantage of this Speed tier to become a solid Choice Specs wallbreaker or cleaner due to a good Special Attack stat, with U-turn and Flip Turn to pivot out of poor matchups. Unfortunately, Inteleon has no boosting options outside of items, and its frail defenses and lackluster coverage outside of Terastallization leave much to be desired. Inteleon is very one-dimensional as a special attacker with one STAB type and minimal coverage, and despite its great Speed, it is generally passed over for other Water-types that can offer better utility or offense and provide more options in matchups.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Special Wallbreaker**: Inteleon can use a damage-boosting item, especially Choice Specs, to make its attacks hit considerably harder off its great Special Attack. This allows Inteleon to act as a budget wallbreaker or cleaner and dent teams without great Water-resistant Pokemon.

**Utility**: Inteleon can use Reflect and Light Screen alongside pivoting options to set up its teammates for success. Taunt is also a great option for denying entry hazards or setup opportunities from foes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Hydro Pump, Scald, Snipe Shot, Surf

**Utility Moves**: U-turn, Flip Turn, Reflect, Light Screen, Taunt

**Coverage**: Air Slash, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========

**Vacuum Wave**: Inteleon can use Vacuum Wave to revenge kill certain threats and weakened foes.

**Haze**: Though it struggles to fit this move, Inteleon can use Haze as an emergency option to remove rapidly boosting foes' stat changes.

Common Items
========
**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs is the item that gives Inteleon the most wallbreaking power reliably, as it loves to use its strong special STAB moves and often doesn't mind being locked in due to its minimal coverage.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Inteleon enjoys being brought in repeatedly to exert offensive pressure, and Heavy-Duty Boots can mitigate chip damage when it swaps in and constantly pivots around in a match.

Niche Items
========
**Other Damage-boosting Items**: If Inteleon needs to swap moves, damage-boosting items like Life Orb and Mystic Water can sacrifice some of Choice Specs's power for flexibility.

**Light Clay**: Light Clay can be used alongside Light Screen and Reflect to provide support for Inteleon’s partners to set up.

**Choice Scarf**: Inteleon can become a revenge killer and outpace some key offensive threats that would otherwise outpace it naturally or with their own Speed boost without fear.

Tera
========
Inteleon can be used as a secondary Tera Captain to give it the coverage it desperately needs to break through foes that would otherwise handle its STAB attacks. Inteleon can use Tera Water to boost its STAB moves even further, or it can use Tera Electric, Ice, or Grass to break through foes that would give it a hard time. Despite being offensive in nature, Inteleon should not often be a Tera Captain due to its lack of bulk and setup potential.

Draft Strategy
========
Inteleon should be used to support rosters that need a form of speed control with wallbreaking and pivoting potential for a cheap price. A few ideal teammates might be:

**Grass-type Pokemon**: Strong Grass-types such as Meowscarada, Rillaboom, and Ogerpon can help Inteleon deal with the bulkier Water-types it can struggle to break.

**Bulky Pivots**: Inteleon appreciates safe ways for it to enter the battle so that it can wallbreak without risk; slower pivots such as Galarian Slowking and Iron Hands can take a hit first before positioning Inteleon.

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Inteleon greatly appreciates hazards from Pokemon like Ting-Lu, Gliscor, and Garchomp to help whittle down some of the Pokemon it cannot break through naturally.

**Setup Threats**: With pivoting options and access to dual screens, Pokemon with setup potential can take full advantage of Inteleon's support options.

Checks and Counters
========
**Water-types**: Inteleon struggles to break past Water-types with naturally good bulk, such as Primarina, Ogerpon-W, and Rotom-W, as its coverage is extremely limited outside of Terastallization. This lack of pressure can create openings for foes to set entry hazards or boost stats without much threat in return.

**Revenge Killers**: Inteleon struggles hard against Pokemon that naturally outpace it, such as Deoxys-S, Iron Bundle, and Meowscarada, as it often cannot take a hit due to its poor defenses. Priority moves from strong users like Kingambit, Rillaboom, and Raging Bolt can also be options to pick off Inteleon.

**Special Walls**: Certain special walls, such as Galarian Slowking, Uxie, and Latias, can give Inteleon plenty of trouble by naturally taking Inteleon’s hits and punishing it via status or a strong attack.

Inteleon is very one dimensional as a special attacker but is certainly decent enough to consider if competing water types have already been picked. Decided to buff this a bit since Inteleon isn't a terrible Pokemon at all, just rather one dimensional.

Common Roles
========
** Special Wallbreaker**: Inteleon can use a boosting item to use strong STAB attacks, especially Choice Specs, which will make its attacks hit considerably harder off its great special attack. This allows Inteleon to act as a budget wallbreaker or even cleaner.

**Screens Setter**: Inteleon can use Reflect and Light Screen alongside pivoting options to set up its teammates for success. This can also be combined with Taunt to potentially deny hazards or opposing disruption. Not sure if this is gonna survive a QC but might as well say this to strengthen the argument.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Hydro Pump, Scald, Snipe Shot, Surf

**Utility Moves**: U-turn, Flip Turn, Reflect, Light Screen, Taunt.

**Coverage**: Air Slash, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Vacuum Wave**: Vacuum Wave is a useful priority move for weakened faster pokemon such as Iron Bundle.

**Haze**: Inteleon can use Haze to remove a slower foe's stat changes.

**Swords Dance**: Technically, Swords Dance is the best option that Inteleon has boosting wise and it can surprise its checks with a physical set using moves such as Liquidation, Aqua Jet and Icicle Spear among other moves. However, Inteleon's poor coverage makes this very fringe at best.

Common Items
========
**Damage-boosting Items**: Life Orb, Choice Specs, or Mystic Water can all be used effectively to allow Inteleon strong damage output. I would separate these items as Choice Specs should be a separate category in my opinion.

(repeat as necessary)

Niche Items
========
**Heavy-Duty-Boots**: Inteleon enjoys being brought in repeatedly to exert offensive pressure, and Heavy-Duty Boots can mitigate chip damage when it swaps in.

**Light Clay**: Light Clay can be alongside Light Screen and Reflect to provide bulk for Inteleon’s other partners.

**Choice Scarf**: Inteleon can become a revenge-killer and outpace some key offensive threats that would otherwise outpace it naturally.

I would add Sitrus Berry and Resistance Berries.

(repeat as necessary)

Tera
========
Inteleon is not a pokemon that should be worth considering as a primary Tera Captain. However, Inteleon can use Tera to boost its STAB even further, or it can use Tera Electric or Grass to break through opposing waters that would give it a hard time and solve its coverage issues.

Draft Strategy
========
Inteleon is not a pokemon that should be the centerpiece of a draft. Instead, it should look to support rosters who need a fast Water-type with wall-breaking potential and pivoting for cheap. A few ideal teammates might be:

**Bulky pivots**: Inteleon appreciates safe ways for it to enter the battle so it can break without risk, so slower pivots such as Galarian Slowking or Iron Hands can take a hit first before positioning Inteleon.

**Good Hazard-Setting**: Inteleon greatly appreciates hazards from pokemon like Ting-Lu, Gliscor, and Garchomp to help whittle down some of the pokemon Inteleon cannot break naturally.

(repeat as necessary)

Checks and Counters
========
**Water-types**: Inteleon struggles to break past Water-types with natural bulk, such as Toxapex and Walking Wake, as its coverage is extremely limited outside of Terastalization. It can use Taunt to prevent some recovery options and can pivot out on these pokemon to bring in teammates.

**Faster pokemon**: Inteleon struggles hard against pokemon that naturally outpace it, such as Deoxys-Speed and Meowscarada, as it often cannot take a hit due to its poor defenses.

**Special Walls**: Certain special walls, such as Galairan Slowking and Latias can give Inteleon plenty of trouble by naturally taking Inteleon’s hits and can threaten it out.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Hydro Pump, Scald, Snipe Shot, Surf

**Utility Moves**: U-turn, Flip Turn, Reflect, Light Screen, Taunt.

**Coverage**: Air Slash, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Tera Blast, Vacuum Wave make vwave niche and explain

Niche Moves
========

**Haze**: Though it struggles to fit this move, Inteleon can use Haze as an emergency option to remove rapidly boosting foes' stat changes.

Common Items
========
**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs is the item that gives Inteleon the most breaking power reliably, as it loves to use its strong special STAB and often doesn't mind being locked in due to its minimal coverage.

**Heavy-Duty-Boots**: Inteleon enjoys being brought in repeatedly to exert offensive pressure, and Heavy-Duty Boots can mitigate chip damage when it swaps in and constantly pivot around in a match.

Niche Items
========
**Other damage-boosting items**: If Inteleon requires swapping moves, Life Orb, Mystic Water, or other damage-boosting items can sacrifice some power for moveset flexibility.

**Light Clay**: Light Clay can be alongside Light Screen and Reflect to provide bulk support for Inteleon’s other partners to set up.

**Choice Scarf**: Inteleon can become a revenge-killer and outpace some key offensive threats that would otherwise outpace it naturally or with their own Speed boost without fear.

**Scope Lens**: idk if this is good enough but maybe?

Tera
========
Inteleon can be used as a secondary Tera Captain to give it the coverage it desperately needs to break through foes that would otherwise handle the STAB attacks. Inteleon can use Tera Water to boost its STAB even further, or it can use Tera Electric, Ice, or Grass to break through foes that would give it a hard time. Due to its lack of bulk and setup potential despite being offensive in nature, Inteleon should not often be a Tera Captain.

Draft Strategy
========
Inteleon is not a pokemon that should be the centerpiece of a draft obvious. Instead, it Inteleon should look to support rosters who need speed control with wall-breaking potential and pivoting for cheap. A few ideal teammates might be:

**Grass-type pokemon**: Strong Grass-types such as Meowscarada, Rillaboom, or Ogerpon can help Inteleon deal with the bulkier Water-types it can struggle to break.

**Bulky pivots**: Inteleon appreciates safe ways for it to enter the battle so it can break without risk, so slower pivots such as Galarian Slowking or Iron Hands can take a hit first before positioning Inteleon.

**Entry Hazard-Setters**: Inteleon greatly appreciates hazards from pokemon like Ting-Lu, Gliscor, and Garchomp to help whittle down some of the pokemon Inteleon cannot break naturally.

**Setup Threats**: discuss how inteleon screens can support offence.

(repeat as necessary)

Checks and Counters
========
**Water-types**: Inteleon struggles to break past Water-types with natural bulk, such as Primarina, Empoleon, and Walking Wake, as its coverage is extremely limited outside of Terastalization. This lack of pressure can create openings for foes to set hazards or boost stats without much threat in return. Examples are too uncommon, do Oger-W and Rotom-W

**Revenge Killers**: Inteleon struggles hard against pokemon that naturally outpace it, such as Deoxys-Speed, Iron Bundle, and Meowscarada, as it often cannot take a hit due to its poor defenses. Priority can also be an option to pick off Inteleon if it takes enough damage from strong users like Kingambit, Rillaboom, and Raging Bolt.

**Special Walls**: Certain special walls, such as Galarian Slowking, Uxie, and Latias can give Inteleon plenty of trouble by naturally taking Inteleon’s hits and can punish it via status or a strong attack.

QC2
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onward

**Price Range**: 5-6 points

**Overview**: Inteleon is a budget Water-type special breaker with a great speed tier and some decent utility options. It can take advantage of this speed tier to become a solid Choice Specs wallbreaker or cleaner due to a great good Special Attack stat, with U-turn and Flip Turn to pivot out of poor matchups. Unfortunately, Inteleon has no boosting options outside of items and its frail defenses and lackluster movepool coverage outside of Terastalization leaves much to be desired. Inteleon is very one dimensional as a Special Attacker with one STAB and minimal coverage and despite its great Speed, it is generally passed over for other Water-types that can offer better utility or offence and or provide more options in matchups.
