Infernape - As a lead?!

Lookng at November's Shoddy stats, Infernape - 9th most popular lead?!

What set is used for an Infernape lead? Anyone here see it as a worthy lead/use it themselves?

In my experience on Shoddy, most lead Infernapes start the battle with U-Turn to scout, although I haven't seen many of the other moves it carries as my team doesn't really give Infernape many chances to get in and attack. I've seen some use Flare Blitz, and I can only imagine it carries Close Combat too. It would be a waste not to use it on any Infernape imo. From that I can only assume they are predominantly physical, but like I said I'm no expert on it.

I'd just stick any random move over the usual Nasty Plot on the mix set and then as for item, stick a random Choice on it. Any move in the last slot can work from: U-Turn Thunderpunch Earthquake Hidden Power Ice etc

Well, obviously...have people forgotten that infernape is one of the most popular leads? It takes care of many popular leads and can NP on the switch and hit hard. U-turn can be used for scouting too as said above.

I use Choice Scarf with Overheat/Grass Knot/Close Combat/U-turn. Startles quite a few common leads, but gets the fuck scared out of it by others.

Infernape is a good lead with good reason. It has a move for nearly every situation, and it has the stats and speed to take advantage of them. Steels and Tyranitar won't want to lead against Infernape. About the only thing that can stop lead Infernape is a faster psychic or Gengar. I would mention Weavile, but the only way Weavile hurts Infernape is if it is carrying Aerial Ace and even then, the OHKO is not guarenteed. In addition, if your lead Infernape has Mach punch, Weavile is no longer a problem.

If a faster psychic comes along, you can easily switch to a dark to absorb the psychic then counter back.

Infernape is best as a lead, before Stealth Rock, Sandstorm, and all of the other arena hazards have been set up.

No even a STAB move.:justin:
Put in CC or Flamethrower anywhere.

Its not a good lead at all IMO. Gyrados is the most common lead, and gengar/ mence rape it as well, and they are also very common leads(nape will ohko mence with hp ice however)

mixape is a lategame sweeper, not a lead.

It works well as a lead unless Gyarados or Salamence is the lead, depending on whether you're running TPunch or HP Ice. I think U-Turn is a decent move for a leading Ape.

Shoddy's most popular leads are:
# Gyarados (8392 leads)
# Hippowdon (7493 leads)
# Salamence (6600 leads)
# Gengar (6402 leads)
# Tyranitar (6061 leads)
# Bronzong (5137 leads)
# Weavile (5054 leads)
# Swampert (5050 leads)
# Infernape (4276 leads)
# Abomasnow (4264 leads)

So, going by that, HP Ice/Fire Blast/Grass Knot/Close Combat can get all of those except #1 (Gyarados). Needs a Scarf or Sash for some and a boost in offensive power for others though. HP Electric can replace HP Ice obviously, basically trading coverage against #3 (Salamence) for #1 (Gyarados). Then again he'll be more fugged against Garchomp (#24).
