Indefinite Paralysis

Welcome to my RMT!,

So one day, I had an idea. I felt that Paralysis is greatly over looked, halving the speed of any pokemon is good, but bringing in a slower counter than can now outspeed that Gengar or Lati-twin, now that's something to strive for. So I tried my hand at it. I figured the best way was to take some sturdy Pokemon, slap on some Thunder Wave and then bring in some slower pokemon that could easily beat down all the crippled Pokemon that can no longer use their speed to hit hard. Naturally, it did pretty well against hyper offensive teams if I made sure not to many hazards were set, which was pretty easy. But the team is just missing something. Sand teams give lots of trouble, as well as Rain Teams with Choice Specs Toad. Anything other than Choice Specs Toad, is easily taken care of. Sun teams are also not too big of a deal because those Chlorophyll abusers are easily shut down by my defensive Paralysis inducers. But still, I think it definitely needs some work since it's only winning about 50-60 percent of the time. That's where the Smogon forums come in! So welcome to my third RMT and please enjoy :).

The Immobilization Squad:

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SAtk / 160 SDef
Modest Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

- Nasty Plot

- Giga Drain

Short-hand: Thanks to False Sense for a great suggestion. Celebi serves as a great Specially Defensive Special Attacker. Grass coverage really helps the offensive half of the team and after a Nasty Plot not a lot is safe.

Thank you to False Sense for suggesting a great replacement for the old Liepard that used to occupy this spot. Celebi, while I have yet to test, seems like she makes a great fit for the team. The coverage a Grass Pokemon brings is greatly appreciated by the members of the offensive trio and also serves as a great way to check those pesky un-Paralyzed Ground Types. After a Nasty Plot boost she becomes quite the threat. She even keeps up the Paralysis spreading with Thunder Wave and can take a Special Defensive role quite nicely while still remaining offensively present. I have been considering another attack over Recover, but I'd definitely like some input on that before making a decision.

AJqIChX.jpg

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spd
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Body Slam
- Iron Head

I've changed TWave to Body Slam to give myself a way to Paralyze Ground types and Celebi has rid the team of water troubles so now I can afford to run Iron Head again. It'd still be nice to find a way to run wish on here again, but for the time being I might just leave toxic.

I hate you Rachi, cheap bastard. Rachi is my Defensive Para Spreader. 100/100/100 allows Rachi to run SDef or Def moderately well and it gets the job done. It's also my SR setter since it was tough to find a place for it on the team. I also started running Toxic over Wish because Bulky Pokemon give my Defensive Trio trouble. The next best thing for those is Toxic, though I do miss having those Wishes.

Oh, Jirachi. I actually despise Jirachi with all my heart, I feel it's on of the cheapest Pokemon, but the role it plays in this team is vital. It was the only physically defensive Pokemon I could think of that could spread Paralysis effectively. It's also my Stealth Rock setter as it was very hard to find a place for it otherwise. I also used to run Wish over Toxic but Ground type and mostly any other Bulky Pokemon made it difficult to use my defensive core, so I opted for Toxic to hinder them a little better, but the lack of wish has not gone over so well because now I can't bring in any of my offensive trio before Thunder Wave is spread or else they take too much damage to be useful later.

7pdoO7R.jpg

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Dragon Pulse

Short-hand: The third part of my bulky trio is CM Latias. I feel she's a bit under-rated. She has the second fastest TWave on the team, the first if you don't count prankster, and after a CM she can proceed to hit rather hard with STAB DPulse and any steel or Ferrothorn that tries to come in with get pummeled by HP-Fire. After a few CMs she can even proceed to take out a few threats to the offensive core without them even breaking a sweat.

My third Bulky Paralyzer is none other than Calm Mind Latias who coincidentally is the only one of the bulky trio who can still pose as an offensive threat. After a Calm Mind, Latias can laugh at the damage non-Choice Specs Politoed does with it's Ice Beam and can Thunder Wave any Choice Scarf variants and let the offensive core deal with it or hit hard with a Dragon Pulse. Latias is also an extremely fast Thunder Wave spreader which is more than I can ask for in my bulky trio. Hidden Power-Fire+Dragon Pulse offers a nice amount of coverage and if I can find time to get together a few Calm Minds I can proceed to kill a few counters to my offensive trio without even letting them break a sweat.

The Lone Ranger Squad:
bAPyjbP.jpg

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Earthquake

Short-hand: Scarfkion is a boss. Blazing fast, hits like a truck, enough said. CC and Stone Edge are both great stabs that are powerful against anything not named Ladorus-T or Gliscor, even against them Stone Edge isn't something to laugh at. X-Scissor and EQ are there to make sure he's not walled by a few things and can provide some quick answers to some Steel and Psychic types.

Scarf Terrakion is great. Faster than a speeding bullet, and he still hits like a truck. Anything that doesn't have a Choice Scarf, Priority or Levitate is completely unsafe. If STAB Close Combat or Stone Edge hits, be ready to take some damage. X-Scissor and Earthquake provide a great amount of coverage and both still hit extremely hard without STAB. I mostly use Terrakion mid to late game in order to score a few choice kills that need to be taken care of before my main offensive team members come in to wreck shit and he plays that role extremely well. Killing any Choice Band or non-Scarf Terrakions is always awesome too.

The Slow and Steady Squad:
fUdQSK4.jpg

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Roar
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Spear
- Earthquake

Short-hand: Mamoswine is the best Ice user in my opinion. Ice Shard provides a good Priority that can OHKO a lot of Dragons in OU which is indefinitely valuble. After some things are Para'd Mamo can even outspeed them and afford to use Icicle Spear to rack up massive damage. EQ is a great STAB coverage move that's extra powerful. Roar is mainly to help with BP/Set-Up sweeps that get past the bulky trio, which is rare mind you.

I used to have Breloom in this spot, but then I didn't have any Ice type coverage which in OU is pretty bad. Mamoswine became a great member to the team. Ice Shard is a great Ice Priority STAB attack and can OHKO a ton of Dragons after SR. I always choose to run Icicle Spear of Icicle Crash because things that try to set up subs against Mamoswine always look dumb when I break them and then continue attacking. Earthquake provides a nice amount of coverage and it's power after STAB is nothing to laugh at. Once things are Paralyzed, Mamoswine even outspeeds a ton of the Metagame and can afford to use Icicle Spear over Ice Shard and rack up massive amounts of damage. While Roar may seem a little unorthodox, I needed something that could phaze. If a Baton Pass team manages to get past Liepard my last resort is to Paralyze whatever is causing the trouble and hope I can phaze it out. Besides, the non-STAB Super Power wasn't really needed.

cFlcklC.jpg

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Fire Fang
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Short-hand: Garchomp is too powerful and after Para, too fast. Set up a sword dance and hope that the rest of the team has done it's job correctly, then choose the appropriate move to kill anything that comes in front of you. Simple.

Garchomp is a power house and after Paralysis, it outspeeds the entire metagame bar something crazy that's scarfed that really shouldn't be. After Paralysis he can set up a Sword Dance and if the rest of the team has done it's job well can proceed to sweep the entire crippled team. Fire Fang+Dragon Claw+Earthquake gives great synergy and hit a ton of the metagame for super-effective damage and are unresisted by everything.

Well, that's my team. It truly is lacking something but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I'm thinking maybe the offensive core needs to work to pose more of a threat. Or maybe something needs to replace Liepard and be a little more reliable, maybe something that can phaze and spread Paralysis. I'm not sure. If you've read any of my other RMTs you know I love Lefties numbers and Speed Creeps. Just a side note, seeing as how Deoxys-Defense is in Suspect at the moment, please don't suggest him until the suspect is over. Only then will I consider using him later. Thank you so much for reading and eventually rating! i always appreciate the reading of my RMTs because I take so much time in the writing and formatting process. Thanks again!

Hi! Welcome to Smogon!

This is an interesting team to say the least, and I think I'll leave the larger suggestions to the more experienced raters. I'm just going to make a small suggestion and advise that you change Thunder Wave on Jirachi to Body Slam. At the moment you have no way of paralyzing Ground types, which could be a problem for your sweepers. Body Slam may be less reliable, but at least it presents a possibility.

I'd also consider replacing Liepard with something that can handle Bulky Waters more efficiently, so you don't have to use such a bizarre Jirachi set. Perhaps a Grass type like Ferrothorn, Celebi, Breloom, or Amoonguss could do you good. Three out of four of those can spread paralysis, while Breloom and Amoonguss can spread Sleep, which is arguably better. Take it into consideration.

3 Twave users? How do you plan on paralyzing ground types... And what are you going to do against heal bellers and natural curers?

There are other moves that can reliably paralyze: Stun Spore, Body Slam, Glare, Dragon Breath.

Jumpluff and Whimsicott are excellent for a quick Stun Spore, for more bulk Amoongus can be used I guess.

Jirachi, Togekiss, and Dunsparce can abuse Serene Grace Body Slams. Snorlax makes a good Body Slammer too.

Serperior can glare, but it doesn't have contrary yet, so its meh.

Dragon Breath is severely underrated. A defensive Kingdra with Rest, Sleep Talk, Dragon Breath, and a filler move is quite good. Bounce can be used for another 30% paralysis move, and also because Sleep Talk will NEVER select Bounce, thus increasing the chance for Dragon Breath. Scald can be used for STAB with 30% burn chance.

@False Sense:
Thanks for pushing me towards that Body Slam on Jirachi, it will definitely benefit the team, I just needed a second opinion on it. As for a Liepard replacement, as much as it pains me to say it, I think Celebi would make a great fit there. I think a SDefensive variant with some SAtk pressure would really help to circumvent some water problems this team has. Maybe Giga/TWave//Recover and a third attack with 252+SDef and some SAtk and HP EVs? I'll do some testing on that. The only thing I'm worried about is loosing the taunt on Liepard and it eventually leading to hazard issues.

@TLo
That's why I was wanted some input on Body Slam over TBolt on Rachi, which False Sense provided. As for Natural Cure/Heal Bell, I can't think of any users of that attack that aren't killed by a member of the offensive trio. Terrakion kills Blissey/Celebi, Jirachi eventually can kill Starmie now with some help from Celebi it'll be extremely troubled and for the Rare Shaymin, Latias can easily take care of it with HP-Fire.

As for replacing TWave with things like Stun Spore, the low accuracy will be highly anti-beneficial to all the Pokemon you mentioned and they're all quite frail as it stands, while they may have perfect spots on other teams, this team can't afford more frailty. As for Defensive RestTalk Kingdra, that is an excellent suggestion. Dragonbreath would give me a good way to paralyze ground types and also give me a Pokemon to Sleep Absorb while Ground Types can't do anything to a Defensive Kingdra, that I may need to test.

The only thing I'm worried about is loosing the taunt on Liepard and it eventually leading to hazard issues.

None of your pokemon are weak to Stealth Rocks and three pokemon that resist Stealth Rocks. Spikes and Toxic Spikes are less common, but I think you have answers to common hazard setters. I don't think it's much of an issue.

I agree with you, I think I've decided on a little unorthodox of a set on Celebi, might change a few things if I can get some suggestions. How does this look?
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 160 SDef / 96 SAtk
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Nasty Plot
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
I might add another attack over Recover but I'm not quite sure yet. The 96 SAtk EVs let it hit pretty nicely, I based calculations off of Jellicent.

Calculations:
96+ SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Jellicent: 188-224 (46.65 - 55.58%) -- 19.92% chance to 2HKO
96+ SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Jellicent: 140-168 (34.65 - 41.58%) -- 73.24% chance to 3HKO

+2 96+ SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Jellicent: 374-444 (92.8 - 110.17%) -- 56.25% chance to OHKO
+2 96+ SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Jellicent: 278-330 (68.81 - 81.68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Not to mention the nice wallops it gives Politoed and Tyranitar and lots of other things Grass coverage takes care of for this team.

What do you suggest I do with Jirachi's set after putting Body Slam over TBolt?

Hello there, I got your request.

ParaSpam teams are a nice concept but in my opinion you can improve a lot it so let's start with the rate. Well, first of all, I'd use Recover replacing Hidden Power Fire because Recover allows Latias to keep herself alive longer which is really important for a support pokèmon as your Latias. I'd change Hidden Power Fire because it seems the most useless move on Latias since Calm Mind and Dragon Pulse allows Latias to be a great late game sweeper and Thunder Wave allows Latias to paralyze opponents' pokèmon, which is your main goal when you are using this team. Then, I suggest you to use Heal Bell replacing Nasty Plot on Celebi because it doesn't need Nasty Plot since you have already Garchomp and Latias to take advantage of the paralysis, also Nasty Plot with only coverage move is a bad move in my opinion because you can't sweep opponent's team if you haven't a good coverage moves since many pokèmon can block you easily. Otherwise Heal Bell is a really nice option for this team since status can give you so problem, for example a Toxic on Latias or a burn on Jirachi are both very annoying and with Heal Bell, status aren't still a problem for your team. After that, on Mamoswine I'd use Stealth Rock and Endeavor replacing Roar and Icicle Spear because Focus Sash Mamoswine is a very good Stealth Rock setter and because Endeavor is nice too with Focus Sash and Ice Shard. Otherwise Roar and Icicle Spear aren't a good choice in my opinion since Mamoswine hasn't a good defensive statistics and a recovery move to use Roar effectively and because you need only Ice Shard as an ice-type move on Focus Sash. Now, I'd use Protect and Wish replacing Stealth Rock and Toxic because Wish and Protect together are a very great combination on Special Defensive Jirachi which help it to recover HP easily and because you don't need Stealth Rock since Mamoswine has already it and you don't need Toxic too in my opinion because you just needs to paralyze opponent's pokemon with Body Slam and Thunder Wave to support your late game sweeper. Next, I suggest you to use Yache Berry replacing Life Orb and Outrage replacing Dragon Claw on your Garchomp because Yache Berry allows it to avoid the revenge-kill from revenge-killers such as Keldeo, Weavile and opposing Mamoswine and because Outrage is simple a stronger move than Dragon Claw. As last thing, I suggest you to change Terrakion's nature in Jolly nature because Jolly nature allows to outspeed threats such as Salamence and Volcarona and allows to have a speed tie against Choice Scarf Keldeo and the opposing Choice Scarf Terrakions, you have three pokèmon to paralyze opponents' ones but if for some reason you don't paralyze someone, a faster Terrakion can be really useful.

Good luck!

Hi! It's nice to see someone else using Thunder Wave+Nasty Plot Celebi. Normally, I would reccomend 252 HP/252 SpA/ 4 SpD or Spe Modest with Earth Power over Recover for it, but with as many Ground attacks as you have on your team you might be better off with Psychic.

So:

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SAtk / 160 SDef >> 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Recover >> Psychic
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain

I hope this helps!

Hi, I got your request. I like and have some experience with paralysis-spreading teams, so I'll tell you some things I've learned from using them. First off, you should switch some of your Pokemon's sets around to make your team more effective. I will begin by seconding Alexander.'s suggestion of Stealth Rock + Endeavor on Mamoswine. Mamoswine is a great Stealth Rock setter, and Jirachi has better things to be doing. I'll also second his suggestion of running Heal Bell over Nasty Plot on Celebi. For Jirachi, I recommend running Substitute over Stealth Rock, as Mamoswine will now have Stealth Rock. With both paralysis and Toxic, Jirachi can beat pesky walls such as Jellicent and spread the paralysis your team so loves. Substitute provides a buffer against faster attackers and prevents walls, such as Jellicent, from burning Jirachi or doing whatever other shenanigans they might wish to do. It also ramps up the annoyingness level of Jirachi to a much higher level, which is only a good thing. Finally, you should run Roost over Hidden Power Fire on Latias. Your Latias isn't really meant to sweep, rather to support, so keeping it healthy should be prioritized over better coverage.

Overall, this is a pretty cool team, and it seems others fixed the issues I saw when initially looking at this team. Good luck!

Got your request bud :) Cool team, I've always actually had a soft spot for paralysis teams, though they suck to play against.

So my first suggestion doesn't so much aim to fix problems with your team but to hopefully add more to its overall performance. I recommend switching Garchomp to a SubDD Dragonite. This Dragonite set is tailored to be a supremely strong late-game sweeper plus it thrives with Paralysis support. The set is already renowned for how many Dragon Dances it can get in a match but its major downfall in the current meta is its low base speed when surrounded by a sea of speedy killers. But when your opponents Lati@s', Keldeos, Terrakions or what have you are all paralyzed this shines. Also the 30% chance for a free turn can quickly snowball and allow for a sweep. Finally, although rare, your team would have a very tough time breaking Stall, especially if said stall carried some kind of Heal Bell or Aromatherapy support. SubDD Dragonite can often times 6-0 stall by himself as they find their only way of dealing with it was phazing it out.

Next I want to suggest changing Mamoswine to a Life Orb variant. Mamoswine is hugely powerful, even 3HKOing Skarmory with a LO Icicle Crash, which when coupled with 30% paralysis and 30% flinch can happen more often than not. The main reason I suggest this change is that it gives your team a lot more offensive pressure. Focus Sash Mamoswine is often sacked early game to get Rocks up and dish out one big hit. But once its gone your left with your three Para-spreaders, a Choice Scarfer and a set up sweeper. I believe LO Mamoswine would help you break opposing teams so that Dragonite or even Terrakion could sweep. Mamoswine is also another Pokemon who loves Para support as its middling speed is usually the only thing holding it back from doing work in this speedy OU metagame.

Good Luck!

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Atk / 72 SDef / 172 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower

As an aside, Stealth Rock can be put over Superpower on Mamoswine if you want. In which case you can put Substitute over it on Jirachi, as pokemon0078 suggested.
