XY Ubers In Memory of MEGA RAY

Hey guys. This is my first RMT. Just wanted to share with you a mega Salamence team I made recently after the mega ray ban so it would be appreciated if I got some feedback to help improve the team. But before this Id like to give a brief back story for building the team so get the popcorn out and sit comfortably :)

The Story
The year was 1996. The land of Kanto housed one of the most powerful Pokemon known to man at that time. So powerful that none of the other 150 Pokemon could come close to stopping this beast. This lead to the creation of a whole new realm to which it was banished, leaving it to lie dormant in cerulean cave. That Pokemon was RBY Mewtwo. The original uber, the one that started it all. As the generations flew by Mewtwo was accompanied by other Pokemon that could finally meet his match. The likes of Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Dialga and even the god of Pokemon himself Arceus finally introduced competition for Mewtwo leading to all round good and balanced playing field. There were some hiccups in this titanic tier with the introduction of the new boy Xerneas and the new found power of mega evolution but they were able to settle in after a while. Everything was going so well in the land of 680-720 BST that what could go possibly wrong? Well that all change on that fateful day of 21/11/2014.....

It was up until that day that a now humbled 3rd Gen legendary called Rayquaza was having enough of his low usage since the days of the 5th Gen era. He looked enviously at the likes of Mega Mewtwo, Xerneas and even his underling Kyogre and was having none of it. He wanted the new found power of mega evolution for himself to relive the glory days of DPPT. His wishes were answered with the revisit to the Hoenn region where he found the stone that would give him untapped potential. But his greed overtook him to the extent that he actually swallowed his stone giving more than what he wished for; the power to call upon items such as life orb and lum berry while in mega forme, something no other mega could do. It was this event that turned him into a monster so powerful that even Arceus was forced to kneel before him. This was the birth of Mega-Rayquaza. A monster that was so strong for even the tier Mewtwo created. This was 1996 all over again. All the Pokemon in Ubers were nothing but mere Majikarps compared to this thing. Something had to be done. It was not without the combined might of all Uber Pokemon and Trainers that Mega-Rayquaza was ordered to be banished to even higher realm out of this world. Thankfully Mega-Rayquaza realised and accepted this punishment for the sheer destruction he had caused and dragon ascended to the heavens one last time never to be seen again. However this was not the end...

In the land of OU, a similar story had happened, this time with Rayquaza's rightful heir Salamence. The consequences were swift and Mega-Salamence soon found himself exiled from OU. It was at that moment however that Salamence received news that his master Mega-Ray was banished from Ubers itself. Enraged by this he quickly jetted of to the land of Ubers with a desire to avenge the punishment of Mega-Ray and lay hurt on all the Pokemon that dare to stand in his way...

THE TEAM

383-p.png
Primal Groudon @ Red Orb
Trait: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume/Stone edge
- Earthquake
- Toxic
The stealth rocker for the team. Primal Groudon is a really good mon serving as my go to Kyogre check which is backed up by special defense investment. This also helps in checking Xerneas as I can either hit it hard with earthquake or status it with toxic. Speaking of toxic though this lures out Lugia and Giratina quite nicely which means i can cripple them if i predict correctly which can go a long way in helping Salamence sweep. Lava Plume can help spread burns too and doesn't make me dead weight against Pokemon like Skarmory although stone edge has better utility against Ho-Oh.

707.png

Klefki (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
IVs: 30 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Foul Play
- Reflect
- Thunder Wave
- Spikes

My go to Xerneas/setup sweeper check (not named pdon/). The set is pretty self-explanatory. Come in t-wave and abuse the hacks with spikes/reflect. Another use of reflect is to allow easier set-up opportunities with Salamence making it quite the wall on the physical side on top of intimidate. Spike stacking also puts pressure on the opponent to defog as well to prevent the foes mons from wearing away.

487-o.png

Giratina-O @ Griseous Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 Def / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Tail
- Defog
- Shadow Force/Will-o-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak

Since my main sweeper and wallbreaher are weak to rocks I needed a defogger. Giratina is one of the best as it also provides offensive presence with Shadow Force and is not trapped by Mega Genger which is a pretty big threat to this team. Max attack so I can hit as hard as possible and max defense so I can take on Pokes like RP Pdon and D-tail them away. I'm not sure about will-o-wisp. On the one hand It would help me better agianst Ekiller but on the other hand i lose the wall breaking power in Shadow Force to help Mence out.

384.png

Rayquaza @ Life Orb
Trait: Air Lock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Ascent
- Earthquake
- Extreme Speed
- Swords Dance

NOTE: The ban on mega ray means that on showdown there is no option to mega-evolve ray in battle. Therefore the combination of dragon ascent plus regular ray is still legal.

Ray returns as a shadow of his short-lived former self but its still always a threat that actually got better for 2 reasons. The first is that with the primals running around, Air lock has alot more utility to bypass the strong weather effects. Secondly Dragon Ascent is still a powerful move in its own right and regular ray can abuse it quite as well, but obviously not as good as its mega. Adamant nature is used to make ray hit as hard as possible and destroy walls for Salamence to sweep, completing the historic double dragon combination used in 4th gen. Earthquake is for coverage and extreme speed is used to pick of weakened mons.

373-m.png

Mray Prodigy (Mega Salamence) (M) @ Salamencite
Trait: Aerilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
- Frustration

The main mon of the team. It is only brought in once its check/counters are gone or extremely weakened. If I get of a DD by then its more than likely gg. Again adamant to hit as hard possible and since mega mence is sitting on a fantastic sped tier, i outspeed all the commonly used scarfers in the tier after a DD anyway without the need to be jolly. I went for frustration over edge because with double edge the recoil was racking up quite quickly with hardly any opportunities to roost and this is usually brought out late game so the extra power isn't always needed. Earthquake for coverage and roost can help in some situations but has been my least used move on the set.

716-a.png

Xerneas @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Fairy Aura
EVs: 76 Atk / 248 SAtk / 184 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Megahorn
- Moonblast
- Close Combat
- Sleep Talk

Since I found Darkrai really annoying to this team i decided to use sleep talk scarf xern as surefire way of dealing with it. When sleep is used, all its moves will be able KO darkrai. This mon also helps deal with MM2X/Y with moonblast and megahorn respectively. However this is probably the least useful member of my team as it is HUGE Mega Gengar bait . Against it, it is nothing but death fodder so a suggestion to help with this as well as deal with darkari would help. EVs and nature are so that moonblast hits hard and megahorn can ko mewtwo iirc.

Threats

094-m.png

Really annoying to deal with especially when i have xerneas out as I have to predict it coming in and that could potentially have an integral member of my team being trapped.

493.png
Ekiller

Once Pdon is weakened this thing has a field day sweeping. This is biggest argument for putting wisp on Giratina

250.png

This thing is a savage! Rocks need to be up ASAP when I see this. My best bet is going for toxic with Pdon but then Im helpless against sub variants which is why I slashed stone edge for lava plume.

Really solid team. Quick suggestion: Roar on PDon? It pretty much solves GeoXern and helps against Substitute Ho-Oh especially if you have Rocks up. It also gives you a way to escape Mega Gengar without being removed by Destiny Bond.

Klefki seems to be a little out of sync with your team right now. Something like Physically Defensive Yveltal can check Ekiller very comfortably, hold its own against Ho-Oh, and threaten Mega Gengar.

Hello darkdon, I'm here to rate your team, after being referred here by Steeljackal<3.

from the looks of it I like your team a lot, it's nice to see such a solid team using Rayquaza + Mega Salamence, as it's an idea that I also like a lot and used back in DPP. However, I do have some suggestions for you.

My first suggestion is that you change your Rayquaza set from Swords Dance to the following:

Rayquaza @ Life Orb
Trait: Air Lock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Dragon Ascent
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake / Fire Blast
- Extreme Speed

Mixed Rayquaza + Dragon Dance Salamence was a great template in DPP Ubers and can once again work thanks to the introduction of Mega Salamence. The basic idea is that you blast everything into pieces with Rayquaza so that Salamence can get through later on in the match. Earthquake vs Fire Blast is a choice for you to make, Fire Blast will serve you better against Mega Aggron which can otherwise deal with both Rayquaza and Groudon to an extent, I would personally run Fire Blast but that's up to you :).

Next, if you take the above suggestion into consideration, I would recommend that you run this Salamence set over the one you have now:

Mega Salamence @ Salamencite
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Return / Double-Edge
- Substitute / Refresh
- Dragon Dance
- Roost

With Rayquaza breaking apart any Flying-resists and physically bulky Pokemon that could otherwise check Rayquaza, you are free to run a mono-attacking set on Salamence. These EVs may not be the best and are relatively simple, but the premise is to allow Salamence to at worst Speed-tie with max Speed Arceus. With Refresh I would drop down to 176+ Speed, but Jolly is very important as it allows Salamence to outspeed Latios and Latias, which could otherwise check it with Draco Meteor. Substitute allows Salamence to avoid status such as Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave, as well as giving Salamence a shield against being revenge killed and against priority. Max Attack is probably not necessary but for now I think a simple 252/252 spread is fine.

I would run a little Speed creep on Giratina-Origin personally, taking any EVs out of Attack. I was going to recommend Magic Coat Giratina-Origin but with two Flying-types I think that Defog is definitely better. I would personally run Will-O-Wisp over Shadow Force as being able to spread burns is very nice, especially against Arceus-Ground that might force out your Primal Groudon. You also have two checks to Xerneas so you don't really need to Shadow Force it. You could also consider Draco Meteor on Giratina to deal significant damage to Ground-types, mainly Primal Groudon.

On Primal Groudon, i would recommend that you actually try Roar over Toxic, so that you can phaze away Geomancy Xerneas and things such as Calm Mind Arceus-Water or Calm Mind Arceus-Fairy that might try to PP stall you or boost up and overwhelm you. Roar also helps you drag Ho-Oh through Stealth Rock, meaning that it cannot Substitute on you freely.

I would also suggest that you change Klefki's set so that it has Toxic over Reflect, this way you can poison Lugia, which may be irritating to your team otherwise, and gives you more ways of statusing the opponent's team. Play Rough is not particularly useful as Geomancy Xerneas can no longer viably run Substitute, so Foul Play does work quite nicely. You can try a Shed Shell on Klefki if you like as it is then no longer trapped by Gengar.

Finally, something you can try is running 140 Defense EVs on Scarf Xerneas to live a +2 Jolly LO Espeed, this is not necessary as you do have a solid check to it in Giratina-Origin however.

Overall I think your team is very solid and uses a very fun-to-use and effective concept in dual offensive Dragons. What you could look into is replacing Klefki as it is slightly redundant alongside Scarf Xerneas and Primal Groudon, but priority Thunder Wave and Spikes are always nice, and Klefki is very splashable. You could look into using Extremekiller Arceus if you like, as you do have a solid burn absorber in Groudon, although Klefki's fairy resistance is very valuable on a team with 3 dragons.

I hope that my rate was of use to you, and I'd like to say again that your team is very solid and clearly must be very fun to use! :)
