Rejected Import background music through YouTube playlists / Soundcloud

There has been many suggestions about adding new battle music, but having them officially on Showdown is a huge copyright liability and allowing users to upload mp3s requires server space. This is clearly a very popular request since there are 4 pages of closed suggestions.

Why not add an option that allows users to use YouTube playlists or Soundcloud URLs; a feature that selects a random song from a off-site hosted playlist when a battle starts?
I think it's a relatively simple, satisfying solution to allow users to play new Pokémon OST (or whatever song is preferred) that isn't just caveman workaround "just use another tab" (which frankly ruins the immersion).

At that point, you can just open your YouTube playlist / Soundcloud in another tab and play it there. We won't support a direct integration like this.
  • You need to open the playlist everytime you play Showdown instead of having it saved
  • The music doesn't start or stop when a match starts or stop
  • You need to switch to the other tab to mute it
I see plenty of advantages to having it integrated, I don't see the reason of such a swift rejection with no discussion. It clearly is not a workaround users can get behind given the overwhelming requests for new battle music.
