SV OU Hydreigon and Iron Thorns go up to 1800

Hello everyone, in this post i will talk about this Hydreigon/ Iron thorns team. It's an bulky off team that tries to break walls hitting as fast and hard as posible. I love these two mons and i think they have their place (maybe a tiny place, but a place after all lmao) in the OU meta. Both hit hard and have great coverage, but there weakness can be very exploitable so will need some help for the rest of the team. It's a fun team to play and can compete with the other teams in the meta. Let's see what each pokemon does. I will go more in depth in these two pokemon since the other pokemon and sets are pretty standart.

Proof of the 1800. (I'm greencroko). I have bad GXE cause i was trying mons and other teams in this account ok... ahahha

Hydreigon / Monika

monika (Hydreigon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Earth Power

Hydreigon it's an average speed mon that was recently buff this generation with stealth rock. I'm aware that at the begining of the gen it had some use with focus sash taunt lead. I liked the idea but never really used it. Instead of the mentioned focus sash im using the life orb item. Hydreigon lives almost all hits in the meta at least once and the life orb induced dmg can be used to prevent some defog/ rapid spin attemps. The dmg increase also gives Hydreigon a nasty One Hit Knock Outs that otherwise cannot reach without a choice specs. Hydreigon can kill the main spinners and secure that stealth rockn are staying for the rest of the game. It KOts Great Tusk max HP variants with Draco Meteor (252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Great Tusk: 446-526 (102.7 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO) and offensive Iron Treads ( 252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Iron Treads: 333-393 (103.7 - 122.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO) with earth power. It can aslo outspeed and kill H-samurott (252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Samurott-Hisui: 380-448 (118.3 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO) and glimmora. Against only HP invested Landorus-T there is a one roll to KO with out Stealth Rock and a good chance to do it with its chip. (252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 324-382 (84.8 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO). Draco Meteor KO's darkrai and non life orb variants can only KO back with an 37% roll on focus blast. ( 252 SpA Darkrai Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 294-346 (90.4 - 106.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO). Hydreigon has a 50% chance of naturally living one darts from Dragapults most used pivot EVS (76 attack) and with 76 Evs on defense you always live. This calc may be useful if u prefer the focus sash over the life orb. (76 Atk Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 76 Def Hydreigon: 268-324 (82.4 - 99.6%) -- approx. 2HKO). Hydreigon is useless in 1vs1 situations vs fairies but can hit amost everything else for neutral or effective dmg. Can swith in a lot of pokemon in the meta at least once, such as non play rough ogerpon, G-Slowking, Gliscor, Gholdengo, Landorus-T, Rillaboom... The Poison tera type allows Hydreigon to live one hit against Zamazenta and do great dmg (252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Zamazenta: 239-282 (61.5 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery), and resist fairy to secure rocks in some match ups. I use Hydreigon in the early states of the game, puting pressure on the opponent with rocks and strong hits. Even in bad match ups Hydreigon usually provides a kill and puts rocks, forcing the opponent a turn to spin/defog.

Iron Thorns / Ludwig

ludwig (Iron Thorns) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Supercell Slam

People can hate on him but he has to much dripp... My boy Ludwig a.k.a Iron Thorns is an underrated mon. Ludwig is the premiere sweeper of the team and can surprise anyone that doesn't respect it enough. Booster Energy is a one-time use item that gives Thorns a dmg increase, so almost everytime that Thorns enters the field its not leaving it. I like how Thorns threatens Skeledirge for OHKO (252 Atk Quark Drive Iron Thorns Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Skeledirge: 432-510 (105.1 - 124%) -- guaranteed OHKO) and Dondozo for a 2HKO (252 Atk Quark Drive Iron Thorns Supercell Slam vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 284-336 (56.3 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO), the two main unaware users. There is a chance to 2HKO Clefable as well (252 Atk Quark Drive Iron Thorns Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 190-225 (48.2 - 57.1%) -- 44.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery). Rock /Electric is a very good offensive typing that can muscle through everything with enough turns. Great Tusk resists both STAB options but with Tera Bug as an option it can be used for set up. With Tera you can aslo set up in front of Landorus-T, and Iron Treads really easy, getting in most cases 2 Dragon dances. Once you are at +2 with the Quark Drive boost everything dropps. Priority can be sketchy but Bug resists Rillaboom's Grassy Glide and without tera, Thorns can survive thunderclaps and extreme speed. Thorns is bulky enough to survive Kingambit's most powerfull sucker punch at full health if necessary (252+ Atk Black Glasses Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Bug Iron Thorns: 286-338 (83.8 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO) and has a chance to OHKO back with rocks at +1 (+1 252 Atk Quark Drive Tera Bug Iron Thorns Supercell Slam vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kingambit: 277-327 (81.2 - 95.8%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock). Supercell Slam can be scary to use but Thorns doesn't fear almost any ground types (except Ting-Lu that can Ruinate or Whirlwhind) when tera so be patient around ground types and think when its worth to use the very strong Electric STAB option. Zamazenta can be difficult to face if the dog hasn't activate its ability. I usually try to bait it with another mon and deal with it with pult/primarina/slowking first because once it switches out Thorns can overpower it thanks to power drive and Tera bug. (+6 252 Atk Quark Drive Tera Bug Iron Thorns Supercell Slam vs. +6 252 HP / 88 Def Zamazenta: 178-211 (45.8 - 54.3%) -- 55.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery) / (+6 88 Def Zamazenta Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Bug Iron Thorns: 193-228 (56.5 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Dragapult is also a problem thanks to its ability to outspeed Thorns at +1 and burn it with willow whisp. But if Thorns gets the second dragon Dance not only outspeed but OHKO dragapult even if Thorns has been intimidated along the way (+1 252 Atk Quark Drive Tera Bug Iron Thorns Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult: 412-486 (129.9 - 153.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO), and picks up the OHKO with eq at +2 (miss suck) (+2 252 Atk Quark Drive Tera Bug Iron Thorns Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult: 367-432 (115.7 - 136.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO). Thorns is very bulky even without investment but it usually needs the tera commitment to fully sweep the opponents team. As a breacker it can be quite fast and Eq and Edge coverage is very good when those bulky waters like pex have to think twice to switch in.

Great Tusk / Jose
jose (Great Tusk) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Headlong Rush
- Ice Spinner
- Close Combat

Great Tusk is Great Tusk. Its great. It works. I use the speed booster set since Its a great late sweeper as well as a very good mid-game poke. Tusk helps Thorns or otherwise. Tusk can struggle vs Zamazenta, Corvinight ( Iron def sets), Skarmory, Alomomola and other niche picks as moltres. Its also revenge killed by Rillaboom. But these flaws are well compensated by the rest of the team. The pokemon that Tusk struggles with are KO by Thorns or can be taken advantage by Dragapult and Hydreigon that are waiting to switch in. Iron Valiant kills the three of them but Slowking and Primarina can deal with it and once It uses the Energy Booster, Dragapult outspeeds. Of couse Tusk can be used to be the main sweeper as well. In the late game few Pokémon are faster and can prevent the set up. I choose Close Combat over rapid spin for a better match up against Ting- Lu, Kyurem, Ogerspon and Darkrai and it can also hit hard non Iron Def Corvinights. It can also 1vs1 other non set up Tusk, Iron Treads and Gholdengo. Tusk is also necessary to guard against Kingambit which is a mayor threat for the team. Primarina can help in the mid game if the match up for the starter is not the best but Iron Head goes unresisted. Tusk HP is very valuable in this team and precises good decision making to not use it to early or to late. I use the posion tera type to full stop iron valiant if need to, absorb toxic spikes in a pinch and set up a burned zamazenta without taking to much dmg. The speed boost helps against Dragapult, providing some chip or even OHKO at +1 (+1 4 Atk Protosynthesis Great Tusk Ice Spinner vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult: 360-424 (113.5 - 133.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO).

G-Slowking / Seco
seco (Slowking-Galar) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Future Sight
- Chilly Reception
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunder Wave

G-Slowking is the team main fairy switch in and a great pivot/status spreader. Heavy-Duty Boots it's always a great option in G-Slowking but since these team doesn't have a hazard removal I pretty much had no choice. Without them, G-Slowking couldn't be able to switch in as much as the teams needs to. Future sight is great for making progress in the long run and pressure the opponents dark types. Chilly Reception is a great tool against weather and for letting the dragons or a sweeper safe. Thunder Wave combos great with Dragapult's Hex and Hydreigon's average speed. If Kingambit switches in can be better abuse by Primarina. Slowking's ability to Chilly Reception out after Thunder waving Dragapult after tanking the WilloW- Hex combo in a 1v1 situation is crucial to guard against other Dragapult. (180 SpA Dragapult Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Slowking-Galar: 228-270 (57.8 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after burn damage). Sludge Bomb is the main STAB option and hit that problematic fairy. Gholdengo hard walls G-Slowking and the team can suffer a lot against it, but the G can always it one. (Only +2 offensive Gholdengo OHKO, and not always) (+2 0 SpA Gholdengo Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Slowking-Galar: 300-354 (76.1 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO) (+2 252 SpA Gholdengo Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Slowking-Galar: 362-428 (91.8 - 108.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO). Tera Dark can be helpful against these ghost and can help to Thunder Wave or Chilly Reception in a messy situation.

Dragapult/ z z

z z (Dragapult) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Dragon Darts
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- U-turn

Dragapult is the best pokémon in the meta. Its super fast, great offensive and defensive typing, great moves, etc... As G-Slowking is a Pivot and a Status spreader for the team. It can check almost everything and live in almost every 1v1 situation while getting chip with U-turn and W-o-W and picking KO's with darts and Hex. The Heavy-Duty allows it to enter the field as many times as it wants, using its typing against popular Pokemon as Zamazenta, Gliscor, Ogerpon, Corvinight... Having no hazard control on the team outlines the must that boots are for this pokémon to do Its function correctly. I aslo like the dmg boost that Spell Tag provides to Its Hex but heavy limits Dragapults as a Pivot, limiting it only to pick up KOs or cleaning a weakened team. No Pokemon wants to switch in except Special Def Clefable who can tank full power Hex v easy and immediately threaten out Dragapult with a potencial OHKO without investment (0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Dragapult: 276-326 (87 - 102.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO). (180 SpA Dragapult Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 129-153 (32.7 - 38.8%) -- 4.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery). But even Clefable can be abuse by Dragapult, U-turning and making its teammates an easy entry on the field. Dragapult can cook any team if you let it too much space and can fast check huge threats as Kyurem after rocks (76 Atk Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 300-352 (76.7 - 90%) -- approx. OHKO after Stealth Rock), burn zamazenta while living at least one crunch even if the zama is full atk invested (252 Atk Zamazenta Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult: 210-248 (66.2 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO) or checking other Dragapult at high HP with Its Tera Typing. Dragapult's utily extend even vs Kingambit, securing a way of burning the mon. Dragapult functions as an early status spreader, a mid game pivot and a late game cleaner.

Primarina/ Singalong

singalong (Primarina) @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Voice
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 8 SpD / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psychic Noise
- Draining Kiss
- Substitute

Primarina is the last Pokémon of the team. It functions as a glue for the team, trying to cover for the team's biggest threats. Primarina's ability to switch in to mayor water, fighting, dark and dragon types. Since the team doesn't have a steel type and Primarina's speed is really low, It can be overwhelmed by some dragons or dark attacks. It's also vulnerable to hazard stacking, knock of and any type of status, so mainting Primarina's HP along the battle can be quite challenging. Gouging Fire with Fera typing is one of the teams biggest threats with a weakened Primarina, and Dragapult can go easily out of hand, but Primarina's sweeping potential and hard walling big threats like Zamazenta or Walking Wake for the team is invaluable. Even full attack heavy slam with tera Steel doesn't 2HKO (252 Atk Tera Steel Zamazenta Heavy Slam (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 244+ Def Primarina: 135-160 (37 - 43.9%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery). Leftovers try to retain Primarina's HP as much as posible with Draining Kiss, a very good STAB option. Thanks to Liquid Voice It can also use Psychic Noise as a water STAB option that prevents the opposing Pokémon for any healing options for 2-turns. It's a great against Wish passing that can severely compromise the teams progress int the game.. Substitute is needed to avoid the ruining status conditions and can be used for a better sweeping potential. Its also important to avoid Garganacl's salt cure and set up along side it. The steel Tera Type gives Primarina the opportunity to set up in front of G-Sloking and to give the team some extra protection against flying attacks.

Thanks everyone for reading and hope you all have fun using the team!!
I will read all comments, and keep trying to improve the team with new sets and ideas! :))
Have a good day

Team is so fun and actually surprisingly good, the prim puts in so much work. And I didn't realize how good Hydreigon is in this meta, it deals with a lot of threats out there rn. People are sleeping on that guy

Hey, I think I may have fought this team or some variant of it on the ladder! Iron Thorns did suprise me with how much damage it did to Great Tusk, but I was able to Ice Spinner my way out of what was going to be a very bad situation.
