How To Stall With The Rain

Hello to all. I didn't played 5G a lot because of bans: the ban of Drizzle + Swift Swim and of Manaphy. I played a team based on and I stoped when there was these bans. 3 monthes after, I recovered in the strategy.

I used the same style of game as before, that is Rain but a stall because for me, now, it's more efficace.

Now, I'll do the presentation of my favourite team. I love play it. It's a classic Rain Stall but with may be grimmick thing but efficace.

Mr Rain! (Politoed) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 152 Def / 108 SAtk
IVs : 10 Spd
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Scald
- Perish Song
- Toxic
- Protect

Politoed is a big winner in this generation because of Drizzle. Make a Rain without him isn't possible. Now, the analyse of this important Pokemon.

At first, moves, all are classics on Defensive Politoed. Scald is a double stab who have got 30% to burn, I love this move when they are a lot of physicals sweepers such as Terrakion and Landorus. Perish Song is for make profitable Hentry Hasards and destroy a Late Game Sweeper such as Dragonite and Volcarona. Toxic is for common switches that are Latios and Rotom-W, they aren't affect by Toxic Spikes. Protect is for 3 things : win a tour with Toxic and Perish Song, know what the opponent wants use, for example prevent trick and for recover life with Leftovers.

Now, the repartition who looks strange. On the begening, I played the classic set with the classic repartition but I had problems with Gliscor who can destroy my team and Landorus who can scout my team. So I put 108 EVs in Special Attack for OHKO Landorus without Stealth Rock and Gliscor but with Stealth Rock. After, the Relaxed nature and 10 IVs in speed are for have climate again Tyranitar who outspeed Politoed. Have the rain on the begening of the match is very important. Max HP for the physical and special bulk. 152 EVs in Defense for take care of Tyranitar, it's enough for resist to Outrage of CB Haxorus or when he is on +1.

Politoed is always the Pokemon who start the match because I always can have the climate on the begening of the match (except with Hippodown but he is rare).

Scallop (Forretress) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Volt Switch

My rapid spiner and spiker, I love this Pokemon. In rain, he is really hard to kill. He can put Spikes ant Toxic Spikes who are really important for a stall and spin Hentry Hasards who are a problem for my team.

All moves are classics on Forretress. Rapid Spin is for spin(of course, lol), Hentry Hasards block the stall of my team. Toxic Spikes is a really good support move, all Pokemon except Flying type and Pokemon with Leviate are poison. Spikes are a bonus, non-flying types and Pokemon with Leviate takes a lot(between 12,5% and 25%). Volt Switch is for prevent from being blocked with Magnezone who can set-up with Charge Beam because Forretress can't do something to Magnezone.

The repartition is nearly a classic for Forretress. Max HP and max Special Defense for the bulk. I just changed the nature, a Relaxed Nature for make profitable the great defense of Forretress. Leftovers are for the staying power.

I use Forretress on the begening of the match because have Hentry Hasards is better on the begening of the match. I just put 1 Toxic Spikes , after, I put 3 Spikes and if I can, I put the last Toxic Spikes. Of course, if there are Hentry Hasards, I spin and if there is Magnezone on the opponent team, I use a lot Volt Switch for not be trapper.

Happy Day (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Toxic
- Softboiled
- Ice Beam (Thanks to Shake It Up)
- Stealth Rock

Meet Chansey, the best Special wall. My supporter with Wish and my Special wall. I prefer Chansey because for this role because have better defense is important for the support.

All moves except Stealth Rock are classics on Chansey/Blissey. Toxic is the most common move for stallers and it's normal, sweepers who would go shall weaken very quickly. Softboiled is for recover life and is a classic on Chansey. Ice Beam is for Gliscor who is a big threat for my team. Stealth Rock seem strange but I haven't got a Pokemon with so I chose her for put Stealth Rock.

The repartition is really classic, max HP with max Defense for take physical hit. Of course, the item is Eviolite for have an immense bulk.

I use Chansey when there are Special sweepers, if they can have trick, I must to have anticipation because Chansey isn't really excellent without Eviolite.

Paul the octopus (Jellicent) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Scald
- Protect

One of the best mixed stallers, Jellicent. He can resist to a lot of moves and can burn physicals sweepers. He is my spin blocker because I have all Hentry Hasards.

Moves are again classics except Protect. Will-O-Wisp is for burn physicals sweepers and so have an easy stall after. Recover is for recover(of course lol) 50% of the life. Scald is for the double stab who can burn. Protect is for burn or toxic damages, win one tour with Leftovers and PP of stall's moves.

44 EVs in Speed for outspeed Scizor and burn it. The rest in HP and Defense for stall.

I use Jellicent especialy for block the spin and absorb water moves. He is a stallBreaker, for example Chansey can't do something to Jellicent after the taunt. He block a lot of Pokemon such as Volcarona, Terrakion Choice Scarfer(block on Close Combat) and he can lure Dragonite for force Outrage and switch on Forretress. A very useful mixed wall. Thanks to Thetwiggy13 for Protect.

breloom.jpg

Muchroom (Breloom) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 236 HP / 216 SDef / 56 Spe
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Seed Bomb
- Drain Punch
- Spore

The Special Bulk Upper . He take advantage of the Rain because it cancels its weakness fire. He takes care of the Volt Turn combo.

Bulk Up is for set-up, with the immense attack of Breloom, it's realy efficace but boost Defense is important too because of the stall. Seed Bomb is for the stab, Water types such as Rotom-W, Gastrodon, Jellicent and Politoed who take a lot on. Drain Punch is for the second stab and for recover life, it's too for say hello to Tyranitar, Blissey and Ferrothorn.

The repartition of the Bulk Upper. 236 EVs in HP for the bulk and recover the maximum of life with Poison Heal. 56 EVs in Speed for outspeed Specialy Defensive Heatran, Tyranitar without the Choice Scarf, Skarmory and Defensive Politoed. The rest is in Special Defense for have a better resistance to Special moves such as Rotom-W's Hydro-Pump, Defensive Reuniclus' Psychic and Celebi's HP Fire Fire/Punch.

Breloom is my absorber of status because of Poison Heal. He break the "Volt-Turn" combo. He is underestimate because of Virizion but he is a great staller and a terrible sweeper who can break a lot of things. Thanks a lot to KBC for this set.

149___dragonite_by_winter_freak-d357vwb.jpg

Old Ridley (Dragonite) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 104 SpA / 154 SDef
Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Hurricane
- Thunder
- Roost
- Dragon Tail

Simply invicible, you just can't kill him . Another Staller who takes care of a lot of sweepers, especialy specials sweepers.

Some moves was change . Hurricane is for the stab, a really powerful stab who may confuse. It's too for destroy Fighting and Grass types such as Breloom, Conkeldur,Virizion and Celebi. Thunder touches all with Hurricane(except Steelix, LOL), the best reason to use it is Jellicent and also 30% to paralysing.

EVs seems stranges but are efficaces. Max HP for the bulk, with it, Dragonite can resiste to all moves. Now, Special Attack, with the repartition Hurricane OHKO especialy Offensive SD Scizor, Celebi,Conkeldur,Virizion and who are problems for my team. Roost is for three things : stall, reactivate Multiscale and cancel the flying type of Dragonite, for a better resistance to Ice moves.

Dragonite is my main counter for Pokemon who set-up such as Reuniclus, with Multiscale, he resists to Reuniclus' Psychic on +6 and can phaze him with Dragon Tail. Dragonite is too my Special staller because he is imposible to kill with a special move.

CONCLUSION :
Thanks to read my RMT. I did a lot of time to make it. Thanks for futures Rates.

You'll have trouble with the Scizor + Rotom-W VoltTurn combination. Every member of your team that can tank U-turn will get hit hard by Volt Switch; the opposite is also true. To fix this issue while maintaing your synergy, I recommend switching your Breloom to a specially defensive Bulk Up set. It easily counters Rotom-W, and can put the omnipresent partner Scizor to sleep with a 100% accurate Spore, thus breaking up the cycle and letting you re-gain momentum. Use a Careful nature with an EV spread of 236 HP / 216 SpD / 56 Spe, and a moveset of Spore | Bulk Up | Seed Bomb | Drain Punch.

Also, use Scald on Jellicent. It's boosted by rain and it's good to have at least one attack on a wall. I'd drop Toxic since you've already got Toxic Spikes.

EDIT : I did it, thanks again BKC

Will-o-Wisp and Scald on Jellicent? If I had a set like that, I'd go protect for...
1. Burn damage
2. Lefties
3. Stall PP
Cause if I was your opponent, I'd go with the all-out low-PP attacks and that can really hurt the opponent. I hope I helped :)

Your team seems quite weak to fighting types, most notably conkeldurr and other breloom.
I would put a defensive dragonite with hurricane in place of jirachi to fix this. It can also aid to to counter scizor.

Just a quick suggestion, I would use lefties instead of rocky helmet on Forretress. Forretress can really use the extra recovery unlike Ferro because he lacks leech seed...

At fist, Thanks a lot for suggestions
Thetwiggy13 : It's a good idea, I'll add this, Thanks a lot.

Cloud9 : Jellicent already have a resistance to Fighting-type and can burn Scizor but add Nite can be a good idea but he doesn't counter Scizor, He desactivate Multiscale.

Olympus : Thanks for your rate, I use Rocky Helmet because of wish, it's better with it.

Hey there.

This is a very solid stall team so props for that! The major weakness of this team, however, is Swords Dance + Taunt Gliscor, who can rip your team to shreds once Politoed and Jellicent have been weakened a little; neither can OHKO Gliscor regardless. An easy way to fix this is to run Ice Beam over Wish on Chansey. While Chansey's Special Attack may seem abymsal, it will still get the job done thanks to Chansey's great bulk. Gliscor can only manage a 3HKO on Chansey with a +2 Earthquake, and since they will be forced to Taunt Chansey to stop it from healing, it will be easy to stop the sweep. Your Water-types will the have a much easier time dealing with Gliscor if Chansey doesn't take it out. This is especially helpful since Chansey is the only thing, bar Forretress, on your team that Gliscor can set up with no worries. The loss of Wish support isn't too big of a problem, since half of your team has recovery moves and Breloom can heal itself quite easily.

Since you will lose Wish support by running Ice Beam on Chansey, I suggest that you run Leftovers on Forretress. The main thing that Rocky Helmet helps out with is dealing damage to the opponent if they try to Rapid Spin on Forretress, but Jellicent spin-blocks anyway.

Solid team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

Thanks a lot for your rate, I know, Gliscor is a main threat, it's the reason of EVs of Politoed, Ice Beam is a good idea, i'll add this with Leftovers of Forretress

Stealth Rock on Chansey isn't bad but it isn't great either. It's a one time use move and you can benefit much more from another move on Chansey and not Stealth Rock. Leave Stealth Rock to a Pokemon that can actually pull it off with no effort. As a stall player myself, I find Wish / Protect / Toxic / Flamethrower pretty good on Chansey. Softboiled is good because it's a 1 turn move and you can heal up but that's about it. With a stall team you have the opportunity to afford time, thus being able to use Wish + Protect to heal yourself and make your opponent suffer with Toxic, or you can Wish and pass it on. I've been having better success with Blissey and this set though. Chansey's Flamethrower sucks ass with Chansey, I mean base 35 SpAtk is pretty shit. And quiet honestly, I don't know why people this generation think Chansey is supposed to be taking physical attacks just because of an item. Your lack of phazers also brings me to the point that Toxic Spikes can be no so great here. With Toxic Spikes, you need a phazer. You need to intoxicate as much as you can while taking the most minimum damage. Consider running Stealth Rock on Fortress and replace Toxic Spikes if you don't want to change your line-up to add phazers.

All around, I don't really feel this is a complete stall team. Dragonite is a good pokemon, but not something I'd want switching in and out all the time. Your Rapid Spinner can die at any moment, and a good stall pokemon is a pokemon that doesn't have huge Stealth Rock problem. This Dragonite might be built to take hits, but the most popular moves like Ice Beam can really bring it down. A stall team should work together, being able to switch as the threats come without worrying about your pokemon not being bulky enough or fragile. Think of a stall team as a sand castle; if one parts falls, the whole castle is going down. Wish can helps out a stall team tremendously. If you don't run Wish then Leftovers should be a better option on Foretress as well. It has no type of way to heal and it's the only Pokemon setting up the hazards that are important for your team. Every bit of HP it can recover helps out.

Sorry for not getting back to this team until now, dragonne, but I'm here now to rate. Here are the weaknesses of your team:

SubCM Jirachi - It easily sets up on this team; Politoed can't Perish Song it b/c of Thunder, and Dragonite can't phaze because of Jirachi's Substitute

SD Virizion - Another Pokemon that sets up easily on this team. Dragonite cannot phaze Virizion if it's MultiScale isn't active.

An easy fix for both of these problems is replacing Dragonite with Physically Defensive Latias. This Latias heavily invests in Defense, allowing it to shrug off hits from Virizion and Roar it out. It also has amazing natural special defense, so it can easily Roar out Jirachi, too. It still covers similar threats as Dragonite, but is less vulnerable to Stealth Rock. With Reflect, Latias also does a good job countering Volt-Turn cores as well, being able to Recover off U-turn from even CB Scizor. Unlike Dragonite, it is fast - it is faster than Timid Politoed, Adamant Gyarados, and Adamant Dragonite. It is also faster than Gliscor, being able to set up Reflect for the team and even phaze it, if Gliscor doesn't Taunt.

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Reflect
- Roar
- Recover
I am not a fan of Forretress as a Rapid Spinner, because it is a major set-up bait, and it cannot effectively spin off hazards if the opponent has a Ghost-type, which would really cause this team to suffer. I suggest breaking Forretress's role into 2 mons - Tentacruel and Ferrothorn. Tentacruel does a much stellar job at Rapid Spinning and Ferrothorn also easily sets up hazards while having an offensive presence. Ferrothorn can actually check Dragons with a powerful Gyro Ball, and it's much harder to spin hazards from Ferrothorn than from Forretress. I would replace Breloom for Ferrothorn, since Latias already does a good job countering Volt-Turns for the team.

Tentacruel can Toxic Jellicent, so it can't switch in on 1 layer of Toxic Spikes and only receive normal Poison. Tentacruel also has enough Speed to finish off Gliscor at ~78% before it EQs. Ferrothorn can set up both Rocks and Spikes, opening a move slot for Chansey. Ferrothorn may want Shed Shell to escape Magnezone.

Tentacruel (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes

Ferrothorn (F) @ Shed Shell / Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef | Spe IV 0
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
With the loss of Breloom for Ferrothorn, your team may not be able to take status as well as previously. I suggest replacing Stealth Rock for Aromatherapy on Chansey. Also, Ferrothorn, Tentacruel, Politoed would greatly appreciate Wish support from Chansey, so I would give it Wish and Protect over Softboiled and Toxic. If you play with this team and realize that Wish is unnecessary, then feel free to revert back to Softboiled and Toxic. And yea, Seismic Toss over Ice Beam x_x;; Ice Beam as its only attack move is a shitty choice.

Although this isn't necessary, I believe that running a more offensive set on Politoed would help this team pick off weakened teams. Pokemon like Stallbreaker Mew can be very annoying to this team, since nothing can outdamage it. Politoed would provide offense to break through such walls. I am NOT going to suggest a Choice Specs set, though, since I want Politoed to take advantage of its utility move. For instance, Politoed can still use Haze, Encore, or Perish Song to beat Smash Pass teams or stop other set-up Sweepers. With a Modest Nature and heavy SAtk investment, Politoed can 2HKO Mew with Surf, Ferrothorn with Focus Blast, and threaten Dragons and Grass-types with Ice Beam.

Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 248 SAtk / 8 Def
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Haze / Encore / Perish Song / Toxic
Oh yea, replace Protect with Taunt on Jellicent. It is rather silly to have Protect when it has Recover already, and it needs Taunt to beat other stall teams.

Summary
  • Physically defensive Latias > Dragonite
  • Ferrothorn > Breloom
  • Tentacruel > Forretress
  • Chansey - Seismic Toss, Aromatherapy, Wish, and Protect
  • Offensive Politoed > Defensive Politoed
  • Taunt > Protect on Jellicent
