How do Toxic Spikes work?

Sup, I'm new to D/P competitive battling since I just came over from Netbattle. I have one question: How does Toxic Spikes work?

I know the first layer can cause poison. The second layer can cause Toxic-form-poison (progressively inflicts higher damage). Does a third layer do anything?

Also, I heard that by merely switching Tentacruel into play, it acts as a toxic-spikes-rapid-spin for your team. Is this true? Are there any other pokemon who are able to do this? Does switching a poison pokemon without levitate work?

All clarifications are much appreciated. Thx!

Toxic Spikes only stacks twice (2 layers).

Switching in any non-Levitating, non-Flying Poison type will get rid of the Toxic Spikes.

Toxicroak, Roserade and Drapion are the other big guys who also remove T. Spikes. (basically, non-levitate non-flying poison types)

My favorite non-levitate non-flying poison type would have to be Venusaur. Would that work?

Yes it does but Venusaur is more suited to the BL/UU tier(not that you can't use it in the standard tier but there are some disadvantages but I guess that what makes it fun).

To Bogmire: He already mentioned that on his first post

Use the "Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer" thread next time.

Most people use Tentacruel to suck up toxic spikes. First layer is normal poison, second layer is toxic..

I think that covers most of it.

Alright, thx a lot everyone. Time to incorporate a poison type into my team.. Might be fun, who knows

if you're guna put a poison type in ur team y dont u get a timid roserade?
its fast and hits hard. or if u dont like that try fortress with rapid spin....

Simple question simple answer.

2 layers of Toxic Pikes gets you Toxic, 1 gets Poison. Same restrictions as Spikes, except that things like Heracross will devastate you.

I think the layers of damage reset in D/P upon switching out though. As in if you if you switch a toxic'd back in than the toxic count will restart its doubling from normal poison damage.

What about Tentacruel and Muk? >_>;

Besides that, you've basically hit it. 1st layer acts like normal Poison, the second acts like Toxic.

I wish to note that when you set up the first layer, you're at the most vulnerable as something can easily take the normal poison instead of the toxic poison. This mostly applies to the uber metagame, as a Ghost Arceus can abuse the Normal poison.
