[Set Details]
When creating a monotype fighting type team, it is easy to find that there is a clear lack of bulky pokemon unless you want to waste Kommo-o's setup set for it. Well, look no further, because Hitmontop is here. Being able to switch in on attacks with intimidate to further weaken the blows it takes, it makes sense that it would be a good defensive tank, as well as having a decent special bulk. With access to rapid spin, it can switch in, take a hit, and then clear hazards for your team. Just below enough health to take a hit and keep on living? Detect is here to save you and give you the chance to KO that pesky enemy. High Jump Kick gives you a powerful stab that doesn't lower your defense, and sucker punch gives you a strong priority move that can KO unsuspecting ghost/psychic types that dare stay in with Hitmontop.
Hitmontop has good synergy with a bulkier Special defensive pokemon that can take a status condition, such as a Guts Conkeldurr with Assult Vest. This way if the opponent was planning on inflicting Hitmontop with poison or burn, it can be avoided by a quick switch in, allowing Hitmontop to continue to be a defensive and offensive threat. Toxicroak is a teammate for Hitmontop due to it being able to take Fairy type hits better than any other Fighting-type available since Fairy does neutral damage to it. Hitmontop also appreciates a Special Attacker such as Lucario to help with clearing physical walls.
