ORAS OU Heals Bells(Peaked 1800+)

Hello there, Lange here with my first RMT. I’m not that good at introductions so I will start with the team right away. I built it with Barge some day before OST started.

Building Phase

The starting core is Mega Slowbro + Mandibuzz, a duo that works well against a great part of the tier.

We then added a specially defensive Hippowdon, which can cover the Electric-type weakness and works well against many special attackers and Mega Charizard Y, to an extent. We already had Mega Slowbro and Mandibuzz to take physical hits, hence the Special Defense investment on Hippowdon. It also provides the must-have Stealth Rock support.

We then chose Unaware Clefable, as it can check Manaphy and switch into Kyurem-B if Slowbro has not Mega Evolved yet. It is also useful against Belly Drum Azumarill and provides cleric support, which is vital for this kind of teams.

Lastly, we went with Skarmory and Magma Storm Heatran. The former can take on Fairy-types such as Mega Diancie and Mega Gardevoir, whereas the latter acts as a stallbreaker and as a valid answer to specially defensive Talonflame and Mew, both of which can trouble our team.

In-Depth Analysis

Slowbro-Mega @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 184 SpD / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off

252 HP and 60+ Defense Evs allow Mega Slowbro to live a +2 Life Orb-boosted Return from Diggersby after Stealth Rock damage. 12 Speed Evs allow Mega Slowbro to outspeed other base 30 Speed Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Reuniclus. The remaining EVs are put into Special Defense to maximize Mega Slowbro’s tankiness.

Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 68 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Defog

One of the best checks to Hoopa-U, if not the best. The given EV spread allows Mandibuz not only to take on physical attackers such as Bisharp, Mega Charizard X, Excadrill, and Scizor, but also special attackers such as Mega Alakazam, Tornadus-T, and Gengar. This Pokemon is just amazing.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge

As said earlier, specially defensive Hippowdon was chosen because the team was weak to Electric-types and it lacked a solid check to Mega Charizard Y. The set is self-explanatory.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect

Initially we were thinking about using Magic Guard Calm Mind Clefable to form a Calm Mind core with Mega Slowbro, but we later noticed that Unaware was the superior choice. The given EV spread allows Clefable to wall both Kyurem-B and Manaphy without any problem, while also being able to face Latias and Latios before Stealth Rock damage.

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

The second entry hazard setter of the team. It is of vital importance, as it can deal with Fairies and phaze setup sweepers. There isn’t much more to add.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 64 HP / 192 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

The stallbreaker of the team. Thanks to Magma Storm, Toxic, and especially Taunt, Heatran can take down multiple defensive threats. Earth Power is necessary to avoid being walled by an opposing Heatran, and it also provides more neutral coverage against Fairies. The given EV spread allows Heatran not to be 4HKOed by Seismic Toss, allowing it to win (or at least considerably weaken the foe) one-on-one situations against Pokemon such as Chansey, which commonly runs the move.

Threat List

342.png
- This thing literally 6-0s the entire team lol.
184.png
- Choice Band Azumarill and Belly Drum Azumarill can be annoying, although the former can be dealth with thanks to Slowbro + Skarmory, while Foul Play Mandibuzz + Unaware Clefable can play around the latter.
485.png
- The stallbreaker variant can be vary annoying, but the team should be able to play around it.
642.png
- Nasty Plot Thundurus can be a problem, as it lives a Stone Edge from Hippowdon and can KO it back with Hidden Power Ice. However, Unaware Clefable should be able to deal with it well enough.
