- Truly monstrous Attack stat of 147, higher than everything currently available other than Slaking
- Decently wide array of coverage moves available
- Mold Breaker allows Haxorus to smash through abilities such as Multiscale, Unaware, and certain immunities like Levitate
- Generally outclassed by other Dragons in the tier
- 97 Speed, while solid, leaves Haxorus unable to catch up with many premier threats in OU
- Unimpressive bulk makes it difficult to find opportunities to set up and stick around
Terastallization Potential:

Potential Sets:
Life Orb Dancer
Haxorus @ Life Orb / Lum Berry (if using Outrage)
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Dragon / Steel / Poison / Fighting / Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance / Swords Dance
- Outrage / Dragon Claw
- Poison Jab / Iron Head / Tera Blast
- Close Combat / Earthquake / First Impression
Pretty much the standard set for Haxorus for its entire lifespan, but it still allows for a good degree of customization. The loss of the Scale Shot speed boost makes it harder to sweep which brings which leads me to favor Dragon Dance over Swords Dance but either can work, especially behind a shedded tail. The Outrage vs Dragon Claw question continues, as always Outrage provides raw power while Dragon Claw provides control. The other two moves are up to you, Poison Jab and Iron Head give you something to hit the Fairies that would ignore your Dragon STABs, while Close Combat and Earthquake are, as always, powerful coverage moves against Steel types and more! First Impression is a a bit gimmicky but is Haxorus' only priority move and does allow it to OHKO threats like Chien-Pao and Roaring Moon outright with Life Orb.
Choice-Locked Attacker
Haxorus @ Choice Band / Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Dragon / Steel / Poison / Fighting / Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Outrage / Dragon Claw
- Poison Jab / Iron Head
- Close Combat / Tera Blast
- Earthquake
A very simple set, switch-in and hit whatever is in front of you very hard. Choice Band + a Tera of your choice allows you to chunk most things that don't resist you while Choice Scarf allows you to get the drop on everything that can't get a speed boost on switch-in and still pack a punch.
Assault Vest Tank
Haxorus @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Steel / Fairy / Poison / Ghost / Ground / Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Head / Poison Jab
- Dragon Claw / Aqua Tail / Brick Break
- Earthquake / Tera Blast
- Crunch / Rock Slide / Shadow Claw
More of a gimmicky set, this set relies on terastalizing into a defensive typing and using your newfound bulk to shrug off hits from special attackers like Dragapult and Chi-Yu. Haxorus still retains enough power to take out frail attackers but lacks the reliable OHKO power from the previous sets.
Overall:
All things considered, Haxorus is unlikely to stick around in OU with all the other quicker and bulkier Dragon types walking/flying around. However, Haxorus' horrifying power and wide coverage allow it to take advantage of the terastal mechanic in a plethora of ways. Haxorus is a very customizable pokemon, providing any physical coverage your team may need and will be very threatening if allowed to set up. But if terastallization is going to be banned then Haxorus will become a far less interesting pokemon to play with as it drops to UU/RU.
