SS OU Haxorus and melmetal team

Haxorus @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- Dragon Dance

I chose Haxorus for its high attack stat and decent speed stat. Lum berry is to prevent status and give opportunities to get a dragon dance off. Outrage is for a powerful stab, close combat 2 hits corv and skarm with +1 and destroys heatran and ferrothorn, poison jab is to hit fairies like fini and clefable, and dragon dance is boost haxorus' attack and speed.

Landorus-Therian @ Focus Sash
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock

Landorus is here to set stealth rocks and deal damage, with either earthquake for targets weak to it and ghosts, or explosion for everything else. focus sash lets lando survive one hit and either set up rocks or explode. Swords Dance is there to boost lando's attack to terrifying levels. The 252 attack and speed is there to maximize what this lando is good for, hitting hard and fast while setting rocks.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Scale Shot
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang

This garchomp is the typical sd scale shot set with nothing to special to say about it. The only thing that might be unique about this set is fire fang of stone edge for steels such as corv, who don't care about chomp's stabs on this set, even at +2. I might change it out for stone edge as it still 2 hit kos, but has lower accuracy.
809-0.png
640.png

Melmetal @ Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 104 SpD / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Superpower
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch

Melmetal is here to patch up this teams fairy weakness with double iron bash, which also has a 60% to make the target flinch due to hitting twice. Super power hits fellow steels, ice punch for dragons and lando, and thunder punch for pex. The ev spread as well as assault vest lets it survive atleast one hit from many special attackers such as speck dragapult.

297.png

Latios @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Aura Sphere

Honestly the shakiest member of this team in my opinion, I'm thinking of switching it out for another special attacker, maybe an electric type of some kind. The specs let it hit hard from the start with ice beam hitting fellow dragons with 100% accuracy, draco meteor is for a powerful stab attack, psyshock hits specially defensive targets, and aura sphere hits steels hard.
786-0.png
287.png

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psychic

And finally tapu lele, who's psychic surge is able to prevent priority attacks from stopping the sweeps of chomp and hax. The scarf lets it outrun dragapult and revenge kill it. The double psychic stab is for different situations, psyshock for specially defensive targets and psychic for raw power. Moonblast for fairy stab and to hit dragons, and focus blast to chunk steel types.

Hello RedDiamond1024, welcome to Smogon. I’m here to rate your team and suggest some changes.

This team as a great basis for an offensive kind of team. Landorus-T :landorus-therian: is a very efficient lead for this kind of teams. Haxorus :haxorus: is a not a common choice, but can have an interesting niche in offensive teams because of Mold breaker that allows him to nuke things like Unaware Clefable. However, I feel that it does a very similar job than Garchomp :garchomp: and even though both are good options here, I wouldn’t use them at the same time. Tapu Lele :tapu lele: in duo with Latios :latios: form an interesting core with both some Speed control and some breaking power and can fit well in this kind of team. As for Melmetal :melmetal:, it’s an interesting choice but you can probably find a slightly better Steel type here while keeping the idea that you need a Dragapult check.

Overall, this team should do decently well, but some Pokemon like Weavile could be annoying and even though you have a Scarf Tapu Lele and Melmetal, it can be a huge threat, forcing kills and forcing Tapu Lele to lock itself into Moonblast or Focus Blast. I think you don’t need to change many things to make the team a bit more efficient and I will focus my proposition of changes around replacing one of the two physical Dragon types and trying to improve a bit the Weavile matchup. Let’s dive into the suggestions!

Major changes:

:garchomp: -> :hawlucha:: So as I mentioned it, I don’t think you want to have both Haxorus and Garchomp, as they have very similar roles. I would suggest replacing Garchomp, but you can keep it and change Haxorus if you want. Haxorus can’t be revenge kill easily by Weavile as Ice Shard won’t kill without Defense drops and may be a bit less predictable than Garchomp as it is less common. Anyway, to replace one of these two setter sweepers, I would suggest using another threatening sweeper that loves to be paired up with Tapu Lele: Hawlucha. Hawlucha is a great cleaner in Hyper offense teams, it can use Taunt to shut down a lot of defensive Pokemon and brings a very good Speed Control option to deal with Pokemon that threaten you offensively. You can run the classic spread that allows you to take one Moonblast from Clefable as you don’t need to maximize your Speed to outspeed all unboosted Pokemon in the tier. Close Combat and Acrobatic are the two STAB of choice and I would put Taunt as a last move, because I feel that it helps against way more things that Stone Edge (you can prevent Hippowdon from using Whirlwind or Toxic, prevent Toxapex from using Haze, prevent Corviknight or Skarmory from using Iron Defense and so on while Stone Edge is only truly useful for the very uncommon Zapdos). Here is the set:

hawlucha.gif

Hawlucha @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 132 SpD / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Close Combat
- Taunt

:melmetal: -> :bisharp:: Melmetal is a cool offensive Pokemon, but I think that Bisharp could be slightly better here. You probably need to test and see if it’s really efficient in practice, but in theory Bisharp is really good in this kind of team. It brings an anti-Defog tool with Defiant, is much more threatening than Melmetal as it can setup a Swords Dance and use one of the best priority move in the game. Sure, you have a Tapu Lele with Psychic Surge which will require to use Bisharp and Tapu Lele wisely to not end up in a situation where you need to Sucker Punch, but you can’t, but I think it should be manageable. Bisharp is also a good one- or two-time check to both Weavile and Dragapult even if it takes slightly more damage on both. Here is the set (rather have Black Glasses to avoid Life Orb chip damage and keep being able to switch in on Dragapult):

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch

Minor changes:

:latios:: Specs Latios is a threatening breaker and is a bit underrated in my opinion. I would just add Trick to the set so that you can annoy special walls you can’t break and help Tapu Lele beating them. I think you can remove Ice beam as Landorus-T or Garchomp already take incredibly high damage on Draco-Meteor or on the Psychic move. Speaking of it, Psychic may be a nice option for the little extra power, but it depends on how much Slowking Galar and Blissey switch into your Latios and I think that Psyshock can be a bit better overall just because of these two, but keep in mind Psychic could be an option.

:haxorus:: Swords Dance + Scale Shot could be an option over Dragon Dance, but Dragon Dance is fine too. Having Swords Dance could help breaking fatter teams, but Dragon Dance gives an immediate setup option and avoid relying on predictions between clicking Swords Dance or an offensive move. I also think you could replace Outrage by Dragon Claw as there’s a lot of Fairy types in the tier and you probably don’t want to lock yourself on the field and be an easy target to revenge kill for them. I’m not sure though, as Outrage is significantly stronger and may be more useful against some bulkier target. Lastly, Earthquake could be an option over Poison Jab to beat Toxapex (especially if you drop Outrage), even though Poison Jab is very useful against Clefable and Tapu Fini.

252 Atk Weavile Ice Shard vs. -1 0 HP / 0 Def Haxorus: 204-242 (69.6 - 82.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

You don't die, even after one and with a high chance two Life Orb recoil.

Landorus-T and Tapu Lele sets are fine in my opinion and can be kept without changing anything.

And that’s all the suggestions I have, here is the new version of the team with Hawlucha and Bisharp, feel free to try it out:

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Hawlucha @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 132 SpD / 124 Spe

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant

Haxorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Hope this was helpful, have a nice day!

Thanks for the tips, I put lucha in and its put in serious work for the team. As for bisharp, I tested it a bit and metal has overall worked better for me. I also put trick on latios over ice beam.

https://pokepast.es/612456718d0a1063

This paste is the newest version of the team I've been trying out, so I'll go over the changes and see what you guys think.

First off the biggest change was latios to keldeo
Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Focus Blast
- Icy Wind
I chose to replace latios because it simply overlapped to much with haxorus and lele, while keldeo can hit some of the same targets they can, it does far better against lando than the rest of the team as its basically unaffected by its intimidate, as well as a few others such as heatran. This spot is still kinda iffy as I don't know which choice specs attacker would fit best here.

As you can see I also took ironwater's suggestion of changing garchomp to lucha to complement lele's terrain(literally just used his set). Its worked really well so far as, it hits really hard after a swords dance and can outspeed a lot of threats including sand rush excadrill in sand. Taunt also helps in wallbreaking as it keeps opponents, from just spamming they're recovery.

As for some minor changes I replaced Lando's sd with knockoff as I rarely clicked sd and figured the knockoff support would be better for the team. I also changed haxorus item to lo to help pick up vital kos.

Some of the issues this team can face include hazards due to the lack of removal that requires me to rely on opposing defog.

Rocky helmet mons can also wear the physical attackers of the team down as they mostly use contact moves, such as haxorus and hawlucha, who's attacking moves are all contact based. This can end in my team getting worn down very quickly, especially against stall.

Hey, and welcome to the RMT forums!

First, I want to say it's great how open you've been to changes with your team. Sometimes the team building process can get a little bit like the "Ship of Theseus" as you continue to make edits and tweaks to optimize your team. I think the changes suggested by others earlier in the thread were great, and the current iteration of the team you showed is the best one yet. I've got my own suggestion though.

In the 10-15 games I played, the biggest problems were other steel types. :corviknight: Corviknight is a huge problem for this team, with the team lacking any way to reliably handle it. :kartana: Kartana also is a mon that essentially always gets a kill every time it switches in, and can easily snowball into a loss. :ferrothorn: Ferrothorn is also very problematic for half the team, and we lack any consistent switch-in or answer to it.

In addition to this, I found that :slowbro: Slowbro was a huge nuisance, hard walling most of our team (:melmetal:, :hawlucha:, :keldeo:) and we were left with no safe switch-ins. The only way to handle this mon is essentially hope that we still had :landorus-therian: Lando-T to get off a knock-off + an explosion, but even then Lando cannot switch in, and even normal gem-boosted explosion isn't enough to kill.

Some other mons that were a bit problematic were :rillaboom: Rillaboom (reset terrain so Hawlucha couldn't get going, superpower hits Melmetal extremely hard) :toxapex: Toxapex (walls half the team, scald burns/ haze threaten set up sweepers, can easily pressure lele with toxic/ passive damage) and :barraskewda: :pelipper: Rain Teams in general

I found that a lot of mons on the team put in some serious work. Scarf Lele + Hawlucha is a great pairing, and the two definitely work well together. AV melmetal shocked me more than once with its combination of stunning bulk and damage output, and I found explosion on Lando to be pretty clutch. I haven't used Keldeo much for a long time now, and it was cool to have some fun with that thing too. Ultimately, here's my biggest tip:

Replace :haxorus: Haxorus with :magnezone: Magnezone

:sm/magnezone:
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Thunderbolt
- Toxic

I found Haxorus to really be a weakness on the team. I think he compounded the weaknesses and didn't really amplify any of the strengths. In all the games he played, I rarely found an opportunity to set up and sweep, even on matchups that seemed favorable. SD Hawlucha seems like such a better and more reliable win con that the team is (now) built around to support. This switch really helps us lean into that, allowing the quick removal of some obnoxious threats that could get in the way of a lucha sweep.

This set isn't anything special, but it puts in so much work. It also alleviates some of the pressure off of Melmetal defensively. A lot of the mons that these two share as weaknesses (heatran and hippowdon for example) are covered very well by the other members of the team. It also really helps us against the difficult match-ups mentioned above. Corviknight and Ferrothorn are both easy set-up fodder, Choice-locked kartana is pretty easily handled, and this provides the team with a really solid answer to both Slowbro and Pex.

A few other small tweaks I made:

Focus sash > Normal gem
Surf > Icy Wind

These were mostly just preference things: Lando played enough like a suicide lead that I thought the sash was worth it, but I went back and forth on this one. I don't think one is "better" than the other, just a matter of preference. The same goes for Surf on Keldeo, I just wanted a reliable water type move, and didn't find myself clicking Icy Wind all that much.

Thanks so much for posting your team, I hope these suggestions were helpful. I really enjoyed playing around with this one! Enjoy laddering!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try magnezone out over haxorus, though it will kinda hurt seeing it go as it was the Mon I originally built this team around. As for your other suggestions I might replace focus blast with surf as I really never click focus blast in games. As for Lando's item, I'm personally still contemplating which to use as both have their pros and cons.
