Hajime No Ippo (spoilers ITT)

Hajime no Ippo. Probably one of the longest-running (and just longest) mangas in recent memory. Also one of the most popular (and best) sports mangas right now. It's a boxing manga about the trials and fights of the titular Makunouchi Ippo and his friends from his gym and elsewhere. It's also stayed fairly consistent, and I think Moriwaka does a really good job of keeping his power levels consistent.

This manga inspires the most conflicting opinions of just about every series ever. But basically, this is a well written, well developed manga. It's taken a slight drop in quality for the last 100 chapters or so, but I feel like a return to form is coming in a big way because
IPPO IS CHALLENGING THE WORLD SECOND SEED!
, and because of Vorg's world title fight (which is sure to be epic).

So, two topics to start conversation:

Favorite Characters
One of the greatest strengths of this manga is its slew of extremely well-developed characters, and everyone has a few favorites. Who are yours? Be sure to explain why as well-this manga gives readers so many reasons to like just about every character.

Current Events
After the class A Tournament ended, a whole bunch of fights and other stuff were announced. Some things to think about:

Ippo's fight with Gonzales, the world second seed: Obviously what we're all excited about. I get the feeling Ippo's definitely going to go back to actually boxing in this match instead of throwing random haymakers (or love taps)-Aokimura actually makes references in chapter 981 (I think) to how Ippo's fought gimmick opponents for a while, but is now going to have to actually box. Also, might we see the 'perfect Dempsey Roll' Ippo KO'd Jimmy with?
Vorg's world title fight: It's been over 700 chapters since we've seen Vorg in action (not counting his retarded spar with Woli), and I'm sure he's picked up a ton of new tricks. Also, what has he learned from Dankichi? The Hien perhaps...?
Itagaki: Ippo's almost definitely going to give up the Japanese belt for his fight with Gonzales, and Itagaki is now the first featherweight seed because he won the Class A. So who's the second seed he's going to have to fight?
Aokimura: Aoki says he really wants a rematch with Iga, and seems to have picked up X-ray vision from his training with Takamura to see rights. What's going to happen when they fight next? Also...Kimura is totally useless in J-Light right now. What about him?
Sendo: Although nothing about him has been explicitly stated, I can't imagine he'll just sit back and watch Ippo take on the world second seed...
Mashiba's world title fight: When?
Sawamura: What's he doing as a trainer? Passing down the 'bullet' perhaps?

So the translation of chapter 980 is up. Some pretty interesting (and hilarious) stuff goes down, and I swear the last two pages gave me chills.

Also, the raw for 984 is out (translation here). It appears Vorg's fight will start next chapter. ROAR!
 
Damn why are they translating useless stuff like bleach and letting this have so much chapters not released yet .. :(

Hajime no ippo is like one of the best manga ever created , there's everything you need for a succesful serie , humour , fights and badass characters .

Anyway ippo finalyl going for world , FINALLY .

maybe a big fight for the 1000 th chapter :) .
 
Can't edit ATM because I'm on an iPad, but the translation of 981 is up and we have raws up to 987. Vorgs title fight is shaping up to be amazing so far-definitely better than anything we've seen in the last 100 chapters or so.
