Hail Team!

Hail Team

Well this is my first time building a team. I really need some help. I've been working on this for a couple of days already. I haven't started training yet so I want some help on this before I do. Originally I had Weavile in this team as a Physical Sweeper (And I'm thinking maybe I should've kept it in there) but I got rid of it for a few reasons.

This is really not the best team. I would really appreciate feedback and advice on this. I know the type coverage is rather poor and there are lots of holes in it but please don't flame. I would appreciate advice and even if you bag on my team that's fine but don't go posting like "WTF MAN YOU SO STUPID GO DIE IN A DITCH!!!!I#$*!" Well.. You get the idea.

What it does?!?

Well this hail team is basically a spike, toxic spike deal, stealth rock thing. I have 2 Pokemon that can roar. One of them at least is fairly durable. The other one just needs to get lucky... It might be naive to try to go for all three (spikes, toxic spikes, and stealth rock) but I don't really know. Stallrein is obviously for stalling. I believe it's a good durable Pokemon so it might be able to take advantage of Roar.

Here's my team in a nutshell...
Abomasnow
Frosslass
Cloyster
Mamoswine
Glaceon
Walrein

Thanks for you help!

The Starter

Abomasnow @ Leftovers
Snow Warning
Timid
EV56Hp/202SpA/252Spe
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Blizzard / Focus Punch
- Grass Knot / Focus Punch

Originally I wanted to have a more standard Abomasnow starter build but I thought this set might be more useful if it is switched in later in the game. It is a fair staller in my opinion, and of course, I need it for the hail. The grass attacks give my team a bit more type coverage of which I am in great need of.

I don't think too much of the focus punch but it might help with Blisseys or Weaviles and I already have so many pokemon with blizzard on my team at this point it's not completely needed. I'm still leaning toward blizzard at this point because his EVs are leaning toward SpA.

I snuck in some EVs into HP for more durability. Don't know if that was a good idea but in my opinion it would help in the long run...

Spikes and Snow Cloak

Frosslass @ Brightpowder / ?Leftovers?
Snow Cloak
Timid
EV217Hp/100SpA/202Spe
- Spikes
- Substitute
- Confuse Ray
- Blizzard

I'm not sure if this set would be useful or completely naive. Brightpowder, Snow Cloak, and Confuse Ray greatly hinder the opponent's attacking capabilities... Blizzard is just thrown in there for STAB and its decent SpA. The EVs might be a little messed up because of their abnormal placement but I'm not too sure about that. Hp is for survivability obviously but the 100 in SpA would only be for one attack so I don't know about it's effectiveness.

Toxic Spiker and Rapid Spinner

Cloyster @ Leftovers
Shell Armor
Bold, Relaxed
EV: 252Hp/6SpA/252SpD
- Toxic Spikes / ?Spikes?
- Rapid Spin
- Blizzard / Explosion
- Surf

Not much to say about this one really. I want to set down toxic spikes as it would be useful. I won't have to waste moveslots for toxic on my stallers. Don't know if I will be able to set them down well though honestly. Cloyster's defense is high, but his SpD and Hp are pretty mediocre even after pouring EVs into it. So I'm not sure about this one.

The spikes are just in case my Frosslass gets sweeped stupidly in the beginning but I still prefer Toxic Spikes over it...

Surf is for more type coverage...

Physical Sweeper and Stealth Rock

Mamoswine
@ Leftovers
Snow Cloak
Adamant
EV116Hp/198Atk/196Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard / ?Blizzard?
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

The EVs might be a little messed up. Hp is for durability. Ice shard because it's physical but I don't know... Blizzard might be a better choice even if Ice Shard has priority. Stealth Rock is just for... Well Stealth Rock. This is significantly deviated from normal Mamoswine usage and more supportive because of Stealth Rock. It might lean more support than the normal Physical Sweep

The Phazer

Glaceon
@ Brightpowder / ?Leftovers?
Snow Cloak
Calm, Bold,
EV252Hp/128Def/130SpDef
- Double Team
- Roar
- Substitute
- Swagger / Wish / Curse / Blizzard

Yes yes, I know, it's pretty bad. I had been looking for a good Pokemon that can roar and obviously... I did not find one. I don't know... I like Glaceon alot but really it's movepool is pretty annoying to work with. This is a bit like the Frosslass I used that abuses Snow Cloak but in this case, stupidly. Double team is obviously not a move used commonly if at all. Roar is used for hazing and spiking/poisoning/stealth rocking them. Substitute is possibly to do what I don't really know. I think I put that in by accident but I really don't know what I can put there anyways. The last moveslot is kind of a filler. Swagger might help by confusing them. Wish might improve survivability (Assuming it can survive for 2 turns to receive the healing... ) Curse is kind of for survivability as well. Not the best phazer/roarer, but I like this Pokemon and it's Ice typed. If you have a better idea, by all means help!

Stallrein Staller Phazer

Walrein @ Leftovers
Ice Body
Bold
EV220HP/240Def/48Spe
- Protect
- Substitute
- Roar
- Surf / Blizzard

This is kind pretty much typical Stallrein albeit maybe the Roar. I'm going with Surf over Blizzard probably because both have STAB and I really need another water move on a non-crappy Pokemon that will probably get blown away after spiking. (Cloyster) I really needed the type coverage as well. But of course, blizzard is pretty good with the STAB and good power as well.

I realize this is a monotype team and that the fact it happens to be one is absolutely terrible.

I would be very thankful for anyone that can help me decide which pokemon to take out and what I should replace it so that my team has only perhaps 3 or 4 ice pokemon.

Some hail teams has Problems with Fighters and Fires. This one is one of them.

Infernape rapes you. It would take too much changing of me around your team to fix it.

I suggest removing two of your ice types for Gyrados, and Latias.

They stop that guy from raping you, and both resist fire and fighting.

Gyra also keeps BP Scizor from raping you.

Please don't forget that hail team doesn't mean you have to go mono-ice which your team pretty much is, try branching out and using pokemon that will cover the weaknesses as warriorPrince mentioned, it would help alot ^_^

I love hail teams! I have a hail team myself, so I'll try to help as much as I can. Like the previous people have said, your whole team doesn't need to be mono ice. Ice is weak to fighting, fire, rock, and steel, so start by finding pokemon that can cover those weaknesses. Pokemon with flash fire or thick fat can cover your fire weakness (Heatran, Arcanine, Hariyama, etc.)

Froslass can be your fighting resistance, but you should consider Gliscor and Tentacruel. Gliscor resists fighting and takes neutral damage from rock, and can stealth rock for you, and tentacruel resists fire, steel, and fighting. I hate to say it, but Tentacruel is a better rapid spinner than Cloyster (its my fav :p).

For Abomasnow, I like to use a more bulkier set to counter water types that use boltbeam. I suggest a

Sassy abomasnow 252hp/84 Sp.A/176 Sp. Def
Sub/Focus Punch/Blizzard/Wood Hammer

And for Mamoswine, make him

Naughty 252 Attack/20 Sp.A/232 Speed
Ice Shard/Earthquake/Stone Edge/Blizzard

Mamoswine can abuse the hail with Blizzard and stop physical walls.

Hoped I helped.

Replace Cloyster and Glaceon with something else. Heatran is actually a decent Pokemon to use with your Aboma lead and all the fire attacks it will be attacting. Tentacruel can work wonders on a hail team. It can spin away SR, deal with ape, and set up Tspikes to help out your Walrein stall.

I think you should try rotom form (the one that can use blizzard), a nifty guy that can burn ttar and scizor, both of which absolutely screw ur team.

Again, i would think that OBAMAsnow should have Focus sash, and protect, stealth rock, leaf storm, blizzard. The reason for leaf storm > grass knot, is i remember my swampert survivng it with 1% hp and managed to get rocks down and died to hail, and extra damage is welcome.

How well, if at all, would Claydol function on a hail team as a spinner?

This is just out of curiosity since I've already decided on switching my Cloyster to Tentacruel, but I don't really want to use Tentacruel because it's so terribly overused in hail teams and other teams as a spinner...

Okay, this team has a few problems. Firstly, you are weak to Zapdos with Heat Wave, ThunderBolt, Hidden Power Grass, Roost. Zapdos can ThunderBolt your Walrien and Cloyster into oblivion. With Heat Wave, it will get rid of Abomasnow, Mamoswine, Froslass, and Glaceon with little problem. It can basically OHKO/2HKO every Pokemon on your team with Heat Wave and ThunderBolt. Similarly, a Rotom-h with ThunderBolt, Overheat, Shadow Ball will have a field day with this team. It can kill Abomasnow, Glaceon and Mamoswine with Overheat while ThunderBolt takes care of Cloyster and Walrein. Another problem that this team has is Scizor. With Bullet Punch, it kills your Abomasnow, Froslass, Glaceon, and Mamoswine. It can also keep using U-turn to slowly wear down your team and then finish your entire team late-game with the aforementioned Bullet Punch. Tyranitar also gives you some problems. It takes away your Hail due to Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability and can severly dent every Pokemon on your team with a STAB Stone Edge. Firstly, I will suggest a Pokemon to help you against Zapdos and Scizor. There is one Pokemon that can fix your Zapdos and Scizor problems and that Pokemon is Rotom forme over Froslass. A Rotom forme can work very nicely on your team. It protects you against Zapdos and Scizor while still being able to prevent Pokemon from spinning away your entry hazards of Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. The reason to use it over Froslass is because it protects you against so much more threats than Froslass does, while providing very similiar resistances and immunities. The only thing Rotom can not do is use Spikes. Overall, Rotom will help your team out more. If you do choose to use Rotom, I suggest using a set of ThunderBolt, Will-O-Wisp, Sleep Talk, Rest, Bold Nature, 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD. ThunderBolt is for STAB. You can wear down Zados with Will-O-Wisp and ThunderBolt as you take Heat Wave's nicely thanks to the Special Defense E's invested. Will-O-Wisp allows you to cripple Tyranitar, a Pokemon that loves switching into Rotom. Tyranitar can also cause a lot of trouble with Stone Edge since you have no reliable switch-in, so crippling it with Will-O-Wisp will help you handle it more effectively. Rest is there to recover your HP and SLeep Talk is so you can attack while yoiur sleeping. This Rotom acts as a status absorber while keeping a multitude of threats in check for you.

Now, I will focus on helping you combat Tyranitar and Rotom formes. So like I said before, Tyranitar can severely hurt your team with a STAB Stone Edge since you have no reliabel switch-in. Also, like I stated before, Rotom formes can give you some problems as well since it can ThunderBolt/Overheat your entire team. So what Pokemon can help fix these problems. The Pokemon I have in mind is Swampert. Swampert brings a few things to the team. It provides you with an excellent Rock resist and Tyranitar counter. It can also provide Stealth Rock support as well. You may say "My Mamoswine has Stealth Rock" True, however, Swampert makes a better user of Stealth Rock in general due to it having more durability. Mamoswine can now use another move in that slot that was occupied by Stealth rock, however, I will get to that later. For Swampert, use Stealth Rock, Earthquake, Surf, Ice Beam, 240 HP/216 Def/52 SAtk, Relaxed Nature. Stealth Rock is for Support and is a great move to have on any team. Earthquake is for STAB and to handle Tyranitar and Heatran, two big threats to your team. Surf allows Swampert to hit the Steel types such as Skarmory and Bronzong, who otherwise wall the set without it. Ice Beam allows you to hit Dragon types such as Salamence and Flygon. You do not need Roar since you already have a Roar user in Walrein. Use Swampert over Glaceon. Glaceon seems a bit out of place on the team. Glaceon really does not excell at using Roar to phaze away threats and just adds to the common weaknesses you already have. You also have Double Team on Glaceon which is a banned move in Competitive play. So Swampert will fill that position nicely.

On Abomasnow, I suggest using 252 HP, 40 SpA, 216 SpD. I find it more useful to have Abomsnow slower than Hippowdon since the slower pokemon gets to keep the weather, and I having a 100% accurate Blizzard to hit Hippowdon with rather than outspeeding and hitting with a 70% accurate one, just to kill him before he can set up Stealth Rock. Give Abomasnow a Spe IV of 0 to ensure it is slower than Hippowdon, and it minimizes the damage Bronzong will do to you with Gyro Ball. This EV spread lets Abomasnow get the last extra point in SpD, and the rest goes into SpA to boost his Blizzard. This spread also makes an excellent special tanking, walling the movesets of almost all water types, whose attacks will generally fail to break Abomasnow's Substitutes. If using that EV spread, use a Sassy Nature. It boosts your Special Defense while reducing your Speed stat to ensure you take little damage from Bronzong's Gyro Ball and making sure you are slower than Hippowdon to get the Hail in play.

If you use Swampert, you can now change that Mamoswine up a bit to make it more of a late-game sweeper for your team once your opponents team is worn down by Toxic Spikes + Stealth Rock and your other Pokemon's attacks. I suggest using a mixed Sweeper set of Blizzard, Eartquake, Ice Shard, Stone Edge, with 252 Atk / 20 SpA / 236 Spe, Naughty Nature, Life Orb. This Mamoswine is able to take care of some of its usually counters such as Skarmory, Donphan, Weezing, and Skarmory with Blizzard. The Hail damage guarantees the 2HKO on Skarmory and Weezing with Blizzard. The Attack E's allow Mamoswine to hit as hard as possible with Earthquake, Stone Edge, and Ice Shard. Earthquake is for STAB, Ice Shard is for priority to revenge kill Dragon types and Stone Edge is to hit mainly hit Gyarados. Life Orb gives Mamoswine that little extra power to sweep more effectively.
