Even in the harshest storm, Gyarados's rampage can be felt in the VGC metagame. Gyarados's ability to douse common Fire-types such as Incineroar and Entei with Waterfall make it an exceptional partner to Zacian-C. Power Whip makes Gyarados an effective check to Kyogre while still dealing decent damage to Groudon in sun. Gyarados loves taking on Calyrex-S and Lunala as well, as its bulk allows it to both tank their most powerful attacks and hit back hard with Lash Out, OHKOing Calyrex-S in the process. Stone Edge lets Gyarados take down Volcarona while avoiding burns from Flame Body, thus letting Gyarados's offensive presence to remain strong. The combination of its bulk and Assault Vest let Gyarados survive a Thunder from Kyogre, Meteor Beam from +1 Lunala, or at least two Astral Barrages from Life Orb Calyrex-S, making it stand up to even the fiercest of attacks.

I'm not a big fan of this starting out by just listing all the things that Gyarados can survive. I would much rather make it a point that Gyarados is a partner for Zacian that can wall fires/threaten a bunch of things *first* and then get into the calcs. You can just say that lash out pressures both ghost-psychics and just note that lunala won't be ohkoed if shadow shield is active
