[OVERVIEW]
* Grimmsnarl's Prankster ability and excellent movepool make it a top tier support Pokemon.
* Grimmsnarl's typing is neat, especially in this meta. He's one of the best Fairy types and there are a lot of Dark and Dragon types like Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Garchomp that you would like to have a Fairy type for. Its Dark typing grants an immunity to Murkrow's Taunt, which is a big deal for a support Pokemon.
* Grimmsnarl often pairs with Annihilape because of its longevity behind screens with its amazing bulk, the option of a defensive teratype like Fire or Wat3r and Drain Punch healing a lot especially after a few Bulk Up boosts. Annihilape's Rage Fist also builds up rapidly and when left ignored, it can start setting up Bulk Up's without much issue.
* Grimmsnarl doesn't have many consistent checks or counters by virtue of its versatility, however Gholdengo and Kingambit do a great job. Gholdengo is immune to Thunder Wave, Parting Shot and Fake Out while resisting Spirit Break thanks to its typing and Good as Gold ability. Kingambit is also immune to Thunder Wave and Parting Shot due to its Dark typing and gets a Defiant boost when hit by Spirit Break, meaning that Grimmsnarl doesn't want to click it after seeing a Kingambit in team preview to avoid giving Kingambit a boost on a clever switch-in.
[SET]
name: Double Screens
move 1: Spirit Break
move 2: Reflect
move 3: Light Screen
move 4: Fake Out / Taunt / Thunder Wave / Parting Shot
item: Light Clay
ability: Prankster
nature: Impish
tera type: Steel / Grass
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 116 Def / 100 SpD / 36 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
* Grimmsnarl utilizes Prankster to set up screens before the opponent can move. The screens are especially useful when paired with setup pokemon such as the priorly mentioned Annihilape, but every Pokemon benefits from screens.
* The last moveslot is really team dependent. Fake Out is a VGC staple, Parting Shot can lower the opponent's offensive pressure even more while giving useful switch-ins, Thunder Wave gives both speed control and a deadly chance to paralyze, Taunt is useful to stop your opponent's more passive strategies when the screens are blocking their damage output and helps a lot against Amoonguss.
* Light Clay helps a lot against other bulkier teams where the game is not decided yet after 5 turns, making it the best item for Grimmsnarl.
* The speed EVs help it outspeed a -2 Garchomp and the rest of the EVs are for general survivability.
* Steel is a great defensive typing and allows Grimmsnarl to resist all its normal weaknesses.
*Grass teratyping gives an immunity to all powder moves which helps against Amoonguss but also others like Breloom, Jumpluff, Lilligant, Toedscruel and Volcorona. It might seem a bit specific, but you only use tera on Grimmsnarl in very specific scenario's anyway.
