National Dex Great Tusk

:sv/great-tusk:
[SET]
Offensive (Great Tusk) @ Leftovers / Icium Z / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Water / Ground / Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Close Combat / Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Spinner

[SET COMMENTS]
Great Tusk possesses a lot of invaluable traits with its amazing physical bulk, solid defensive typing, and role compression, all contributing to making it a good Pokemon. Earthquake can be used over Headlong Rush to have a strong STAB without drawbacks, but the power difference is noticeable, as Great Tusk will no longer OHKO defensive Gholdengo from full. Stealth Rock can be used over Close Combat if the team lacks a Stealth Rock setter, but leaves Great Tusk unable to dent Rotom-W and Ting-Lu. Rapid Spin is essential, since it both boosts Great Tusk's Speed and clears entry hazards, which it won’t have a hard time doing against common hazard setters like Landorus-T and Garchomp. Icium Z + Ice Spinner lets it destroy switch-ins like Zapdos and Tornadus-T while also chipping down Moltres for a good amount of damage. Tera Water lets it emergency check Baxcalibur and Urshifu-R, while Tera Ground lets it deal large amounts of damage with Headlong Rush against Pokemon like Mega Scizor and Volcarona. Tera Steel lets Great Tusk eat a hit from Tapu Lele and Iron Valiant in a pinch, but gaining a Fighting weakness isn’t so desirable. Great Tusk hates having to deal with Zapdos and Moltres due to being threatened by Static and Flame Body, so Pokemon that can deal with them, such as Tapu Koko and Mega Tyranitar, are appreciated. In return, it clears hazards for both of them and beats their checks like Ferrothorn and Ting-Lu.

[SET]
Defensive (Great Tusk) @ Leftovers
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Water / Grass / Poison / Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Spinner / Knock Off / Body Press
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock / Bulk Up

[SET COMMENTS]
Defensively, Great Tusk is a behemoth that is able to shrug off hits from threats like Mega Lopunny and Sneasler while providing the team with good utility options. Ice Spinner helps Great Tusk to not be fodder against Gliscor and Zapdos, while Knock Off can deter the two while also providing excellent utility, but still leaves it walled by the aforementioned Pokemon. Body Press lets it deal with Baxcalibur and Mega Lopunny, but leaves it completely vulnerable to Flying-types like Moltres and Tornadus-T. Bulk Up can be used to outscale offensive Pokemon like Sneasler and Howl Zamazenta, and lets Great Tusk become threatening itself with its boosted Earthquake. 56 Speed EVs let it outspeed Garchomp after one speed boost from Rapid Spin. Tera Water lets it Pokemon like Mega Swampert, and while Grass loses the Ice resistance, it retains the Water-type resistance along with gaining a Ground- resistance as well, while also checking Ogerpon-W. Tera Poison lets it not be pressured by Acrobatics Sneasler and obtains a Toxic immunity. Tera Electric lets it stave off Pokemon like Zapdos and Kartana, as well as and improving its matchup against common weaknesses. Great Tusk is often set up fodder for Pokemon like aforementioned Iron Valiant, so Pokemon that can deal with it, like Volcarona and Galarian Slowking, are appriciated. In return, it checks Mega Tyranitar for them while also providing Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin.

[SET]
Offensive Bulk Up (Great Tusk) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Earthquake / Headlong Rush
- Close Combat
- Ice Spinner

[SET COMMENTS]
Bulk Up in combination with Speed Booster Energy enables Great Tusk to become a decent late-game cleaner. Earthquake and Headlong Rush are interchangeable, but Earthquake not lowering Great Tusk's defense is more desirable. Ice Spinner lets it dent Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Mega Latios, with Tera Ice that bolsters its effectiveness to ensure the OHKO on all of them. Great Tusk will need help against revenge killers like Iron Valiant and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, so Pokemon that can handle the two, such as Mega Scizor and Volcarona, are appreciated. Screens setters like Tapu Koko can also help Great Tusk set up and sweep safely.

Ice Spinner lets it dent Pokemon like Tornadus-T , Zapdos and Mega Latios, with Tera Ice that bolsters its effectiveness to ensure the OHKO on all Pokemon as plus. (surely +1 doesnt ohko max pdef zap?) Maximum speed investment with 4 Attack EVs let Great Tusk’s Protosynthesis affect its speed stat. Great Tusk will need help against revenge killers like Iron Valiant and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, so Pokemon that can handle the two such as Gholdengo and Volcarona are appreciated.
