Intro

Rain is back as the dominant weather! To celebrate this, I'm making a rain team that has brought me up from early 1200s, up to mid 1300s ( I know this doesn't sound too impressive but it's an improvement this gen, as last gen I peaked up in 1500s)

The Team

:Sv/goodra: :Sv/pelipper: :Sv/alomomola: :Sv/barraskewda: :Sv/toedscruel: :Sv/greninja:

:Sv/goodra:

Goodra @ Assault Vest / Leftovers
Ability: Gooey / Hydration
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Bomb / Rest
- Surf
- Thunder

Goodra is the Mon I wanted to base the team around, it's a great special sponge and can get pretty reliable recovery with rest plus hydration, curing it's sleep. This thing can take a lot of hits from special attackers, then fire back with high BP moves, and often picks up a few KOs early game on those who underestimate it. Tera water removes it's weaknesses, and makes it resist ice while also super charging surf under rain, and thunder is 100% accurate under rain as well. Sludge bomb hit fairies like :iron valiant:, since it surprisingly lives a moonblast from it.

252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Fairy Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Goodra: 272-324 (71 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

:Sv/pelipper:

Pelipper @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- U-turn
- Roost
- Hurricane / Surf
- Knock Off

Pelipper is this team's ( and gen 9's only ) rain setter, as well as a bulky slow pivot with reliable recovery, and hurricane / surf for a strong STAB move, both will work. Knock off is just a utility move to try and knock off all the opponent's items. Most Mons get heavily chipped or knocked off when trying to deal with this thing.

:Sv/alomomola:

Alomomola @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Whirlpool
- Liquidation

Alomomola is a wish passer for AV versions of :goodra:, :toedscruel:, and any other Mon who needs it. It's also a counter to other phys rain Mons, or any Phys attacker, whirlpool is for trapping and slowly chipping any opposing Mon. Leftovers can be run since it pairs with the wish whirlpool protect set, but :toedscruel: is our removal who isn't the most reliable, so I prefer boots.

:Sv/barraskewda:

Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Drill Run

Torpedo fish here is our main speed control and physical attacker. It scares out chien (speed tieing or outspeeding with rain ) and can easily KO with CC. Crunch and drill run are for coverage against Mons like :gholdengo:, :dragapult: and any electric types we run into. I'm using this over floatzel to not have to worry about recoil, and being overall stronger and faster ( a bit more noticeable without rain ).

:Sv/toedscruel:

Toedscruel @ Leftovers
Ability: Mycelium Might
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Spore
- Rapid Spin
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off

Toed is our team's special wall, main knock user, and spinner. It's ability lets it spore and seed :gholdengo:, and spore :Garganacl:. It counters electric types that the team would otherwise struggle against ( although the main electric types, kilo, hands, and pawmot all get SE moves in ice punch or hurricane, but hard checks sandy) and benefits from :alomomola:'s wishes. tera steel is to negate all of it's weaknesses except fire, which rain weakens anyways.

:Sv/greninja:
Greninja @ Choice Specs
Ability: Protean
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Surf
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn
- Ice Beam

Greninja here acts as a pivot to maintain momentum, and our main cleaner. It's a good early game breaker with tera water rain boosted surf's, especially if the team has frail/ no water resists. Ice beam is nice coverage, hitting grass and dragon types that water doesn't. Dark pulse is just another STAB option.

Replays

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-1798604109 closd win in a rain Vs rain MU, but we come out on top. :goodra: barely lives shadow ball from dengo.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-1798592711 :iron treads: barely lives a hit from a weird d-nite set, :barraskewda: cleans game ( floatzel woulda died from recoil )

I'll make sure to continue adding replays!

Outro

That's all from me for now, if this team can boost my rating by this much, think about how much you could all do with this team! Once again though, there's tons of room for improvement, which I hope you all will help me with! Please share any and all advice you have and as always, thanks in advance!

Edit: :toedscruel: ---> :iron treads:

Treads give us rocks and a better and faster spinner, as well as a pivot. It's typing helps us with kilo and equake is for a strong STAB move. Tera flying is the optimal tera type to resist fighting and become immune to ground.

:Alomomola: ---> :pawmot:

Pawmot is more of an offensive wish passer, and also packs revival blessing to revive our main offensive Mons. Nuzzle lets our attackers clean easier, and paras non cloak ghold. Wish can be subbed out for another move, but it helps to support treads.

Grats on the climb! Any progress is progress!
Personally I'd much rather see Hydration + Rest Goodra on this team as opposed to AV. If you're going to be running Goodra in the rain, might as well take advantage of the best rain-related quality, imo.

Otherwise, can I ask what inspired Alomomola and Toedscruel as the defensive backbone of the team? I get Alo can pass wishes, but on a rain team you ideally want to be going fast, giving your opponent free turns by wish passing doesn't seem the most ideal. You cite Toedscruel as being the team's special wall, but, well, this is a team with AV Goodra. I don't think you need Toedscruel to be walling things specially. Moreover, it doesn't have the best synergy with Goodra, being weak to Ice.

I suppose these two work fine for what they do, but I do think you'd benefit from replacing their slots with more consistently viable options that can better serve your team by supporting Barraskewda and Greninja. My first though goes to Iron Treads over Toedscruel, who can also spin and knock while also more directly threatening Toxapex for super-effective damage. Garchomp also seems like a great choice. Both options can also set up hazards, which your team currently lacks.

If you really want to keep a Wish Passer, why not consider Pawmot? A set with Revival Blessing / Double Shock / CC or Mach / Wish could be neat. Revival Blessing has a lot of value on rain teams since usually your opponent will have to sacrifice a mon (or atleast let it take big damage) just to take down Barraskewda, and it gives you the opportunity to bring Pelipper back if you run out of rain turns late in the game.

Regardless, best of luck with the team!

Agreed. A leppa berry set could work:
Pawmot @ Leppa Berry
Ability: Iron Fist/Natural Cure
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Revival Blessing
- Double Shock
- Mach Punch
- Wish

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking of replacing toed with treads, but not sure how well it would work. But after your feedback, I think I'll try it! Pawmot is an interesting wish passer and revival blessing I agree will greatly support the team's two main attackers. I'll take both of these Mons into the team and use those to get even higher! But one question, what set should I run on :iron treads:? Assault Vest, bulk lefties so I can run sr, or booster energy? Thanks for the help as always!

I think the standard utility or offense set would work fine. Don’t think you need AV, Goodra is good enough at handling most special attackers.

Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
