Golisopod's access to STAB First Impression makes it a reliable revenge killer and allows it to check threats such as Zarude, Zygarde-10%, and Obstagoon in conjunction with its natural physical bulk and nearly unique typing. Golisopod is also one of the tier's few viable Spike setters. Knock Off is the preferred last move, as it can cripple foes such as Registeel, Seismitoad, and Noivern. Leech Life can also be used, however, to give Golisopod access to a Bug-type STAB move beyond the first turn while also giving it a form of recovery. 164 Speed EVs are used to outrun Incineroar, Galarian Weezing, and Sylveon. Emergency Exit is a mixed bag; it can be useful for pivoting in an appropriate teammate should Golisopod be weakened, but it can also force Golisopod to switch out in situations where it would much rather stay in and either attack or set up Spikes. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents chip from hazards, which is especially important for Golisopod considering the effect of Emergency Exit.
Golisopod works well on teams that appreciate Spikes support and also need a decent check to threats such as Zygarde-10% and Zarude. Teammates like Xurkitree, Zygarde-10%, Zarude, and Sharpedo all appreciate Spikes wearing down their checks and counters so they can clean up in the late-game, and Golisopod's Knock Off can remove various Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers to make them even more threatening. Golisopod's Speed and Special Defense can leave a lot to be desired; this leaves it open to powerful, fast special attackers such as Thundurus, Noivern, and Toxtricity. A check to these threats, which can include Sylveon, Porygon2, and Registeel, is recommended as a result. Golisopod is bait for the tier's best Electric-types, so teams utilizing it must double down on ways around them. Ground-types, such as Seismitoad, Rhyperior, and Zygarde-10%, can help out in the anti-Electric effort, and the former two can also set Stealth Rock, completing a hard to deal with hazard stacking core. These Ground-types must be backed up with other teammates that can handle Electric-type moves, which can include Grass-types such as Zarude or your own Electric-types, such as Raikou and Toxtricity. Said Electric-types can also mitigate Golisopod's weakness to Flying-types such as Togekiss.
