Golem Goin': Registeel Discussion

Last one was in January and wasn't well laid-out.

Registeel got the short end of the Registick for the most part, but due to the advent of Choice Glasses Salamence and CBtar perhaps it is finally Regirock's time to shine.

Registeel @ Leftovers
Nature: Impish (+Def -SAtk)
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4Atk / 252 Def
-Ice Punch
-Thunder Wave
-Arm Hammer
-Rest / Explosion

CBtar's Crunch does 16.4% - 19.5% to Registeel, while Stone Edge does 20.3% - 23.9% to it. CB Earthquake is an obvious problem for Registeel, as it does 54.9% - 64.5% to Registeel (ouch), but outside that and a possible Focus Punch (82.1% - 96.4%) Registeel can wall CBtar rather well while 2HKOing with Arm Hammer. On the special attacks end AG Salamence's Meteoric Swarm does 32.4% - 38.1% damage and Dragon Pulse does a meager 20.8% - 24.7%. It can 2HKO that Salamence with Ice Punch to boot. CB Salamence with Earthquake makes Registeel sad, though. Has obvious problems with Choice Glasses Starmie since it doesn't resist anything outside of Ice Beam or the possible Grass Rope.

Registeel is simply not able to catch up with the extreme offense coming from all kinds of boosted Fire attacks and Earthquake, and its own offense is way too lacking. He totally relies on status and type advantages to hit the main defenses of most teams.

Which is why Thunder Wave/Stealth Rock utility, Counter and Explosion are probably his best options. I can see Seismic Toss working to dish out SOME damage.

CGMence can beat that set with Flamethrower / Fire Blast. There is really no all-in-one counter to Salamence and Tyranitar.

Registeel is not a bad CGmence counter - it takes Meteoric Swarms like nothing, while Metagross eats around 50% and Skarmory might take around 70%. Obviously you'll need a Fire resist, but those tend to be on every team anyway.

Unfortunately that is true :[.

CB Mamoswine with EQ and Ice Pebble does a pretty good job screwing over both, although it can't switch in if it's your only counter to both, since it can't take the combined power of two of their attacks. It does, however, always survive non-AG'd Modest Meteoric Swarm with 88 SDef EV's.

The lack of Gyro Ball on this guy is infuriating.

Was he too spherical of a steel-type, Gamefreak? WAS HE?

As a pure Steel type, it has some good resistances, but the fact that it only gains STAB on some rather weak Steel attacks (both Luster Cannon and Iron Head reaching 120 BP with STAB), it doesn't make it great for offense, although with Arm Hammer working alongside Curse, this thing could end up taking a lot of physical hits, dish them right back, and not care about the Speed loss (50's not a great stat anyway). If a player can predict properly, it can make Tyranitar/Blissey/Skarmory cry using a Cursed Focus Punch or Arm Hammer. It also resists Sandstream and Stealth Rock, and that's not a bad thing in a game that'll have both in play.

With its defenses and with its decent HP, it could also end up as a decent Stealth Rock user; it definitely can last when it comes to setting it up, and since it's only one turn, it shouldn't have any problems.

Rock Cart could also work, as with full EVs in Speed, it'll have 398 and out run a lot of things, and it has the defenses to do this rather well; also, to torment your opponent, you can take advantage of flinch hax with Iron Head. If timed right too, this thing can send an EQ back with Counter. One could also just try and pad the defenses with either Iron Defense or Amnesia, but then you're asking for Skarmory to come in; you can use that to your advantage though and lure it in to take a Thunderbolt/Charge Beam.

In the last game, it was placed in BL, and I don't think it'll be in OU now that there are a lot more options for attackers, and physical and special variations of all of its weaknesses.

I saw this video, where registeel was using either Iron Defence or Amnesia [i dont read Japanese] and got hit by a fire attack [again i dont read jap. so i dont know if it was physical or special], taking little damage. then MR. Registeel used Rock Cart on the swich [no other way for him to boost speed] and then as gaburaisu swiches in expecting to attack, BOOM! Explosion! takeing the [already damaged from some sort of spikes i think] Gaburaisu with him.

Yeah its wierd, but it can tank good, and deliver a nice blow [xD]
