Go, Go, Galvantula, Go!

Go, Go, Galvantula Go!

While Speed Racer may not be the first thing that comes to mind when people think of competitve Pokemon, this little tarantula proves them wrong! This team is a sort of goodstuff team, with a Galvantula/Volcarona core. With phasing and support from Swampert, Steel-type trapping by Magnezone, spinning and offense by Starmie, and Jirachi-stopping, spin blocking, and more by Cofagrigus, this team carries great synergy!

Timid Nature

- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ice]

This quick little spider has quite a few surprises up its sleeve. The ability to OHKO quite a few different leads is one that few can boast, but it can immedeately turn the game's momentum in your favor. Without the ability to scout, you can take advantage of keeping your opponent in the dark. Additionally, with some prediction, you can kill Ground types sent in to get the little spider by firing off a Giga Drain Insert numbers here that can cripple Pokemon like Quagsire and Gastrodon, and 2HKO Donphan switch-ins before they can do any damage. STAB 91% accurate Thunder will also rip holes in offensive teams, with only Dragon, Grass, and other Electric types resisting it (Two of which fall easily to HP Ice).

Magnezone is used as the typical Magnezone trapper. It has amazing synergy with Swampert, as well as being the go-to Steel type. If an opponent sends out a Ferro to try and kill Swampert, Magnezone goes in, sets up a sub, and goes to town, hopefully setting up a sweep. It also functions well in Trick Room if Cofagrigus is forced out, using its low speed to its advantage. While it may fear Ground and Fighting attacks, Coffagrigus can take them like a tank (Assuming they're physical), and use them to set up.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

You may be asking yourself: "Why Swampert? Why not Gastrodon or Quagsire, something bulkier?" One word: Roar. In a single move, Swampert can turn a potent set-up DNite or Volcarona into a waste of turns and an oppritunity to set up rocks (Which, coincidentally, neither particularlly like). It can also stall with the best of them, or even hand out a good bit of damage in enemy rain. Scald can easily cripple things like Scizor and possibly kill Landorous. The ability to dish out two crippling statuses, set up rocks, and phase is one that isn't seen on your sterotypical OU 'mon, adding surprise to the mix when used against an opponent.

Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SAtk / 96 Spd
Modest Nature

- Fire Blast
- Quiver Dance
- Rest

Volcarona is amazingly powerful, and makes up the second half of the team's offensive core. Once set up, nothing much can stop the firey moth, and, with Rest, it has plenty of oppritunity to set up. While this guy doesn't like SR much, it can Rest off the damage, assuming the Chesto is still intact, and still have sweeping potential. Galvantula and Volcarona draw Fire and Rock type attacks, which hardly dent Swampert, and give it a good oppritunity to set up. Volcarona can also use opposing sun teams weather against them with a hyper-powerful Fire Blast.

Cofagrigus is a rare sight in OU, which surprises me, after seing how effective it can be. Firstly, is is an almost perfect counter to physical Jirachi sets, immune to Body Slam and taking a pittance from anything else. It works similarly to Reuniclus, trading mixed bulk for pure defense. It basically works like this: 1. Come in on a physical attacker. 2. Set up Trick Room. 3. Boost as many times as desired/you feel comfortable with. 4. Sweep. This thing is hyper-potent under a few boosts, and can pull off a sweep easily on an unprepared team. It also works as a spinblocker, although with the minimal hazards this team puts up, that isn't always necessary. It also has great

with Magnezone, another plus.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin

As any good team with Volcarona (Or any, non-steel, Bug or Flying cores) has, this one comes with a Rapid Spinner as well! However, playing with the team's theme of multi-faceted members, Starmie can also play more roles than simple spinner. It can easily pack a whallop with its variety of Special moves, absorb attacks for teammates due to its bulky water-ness, and, of course, spin. After Gavlantula goes down, Starmie has the variety of attacks to fill a role similar to it as well.

So, that's it. The team is far from perfect, but that's the point of a RMT: to get advice from others, and an input from the outside. Please leave comments, suggestions, or whatever comes into your head after reading through!

Hey, this is a great team! It's very daring to use Galvantula in OU, but in this case, it looks like it'll work!
Just a little nitpick, I suggest you run Fiery Dance over Fire Blast on Volcarona. On a bulky set-up sweeper like Volcarona, it will often cost you to miss a fire blast. Fiery Dance also lets you accumulate SpA boosts over time, being the more effective move in the long run. Als, I suggest that you run Roost over Rest, and Leftovers over Chesto Berry. This creates more reliable recovery, and a little extra hp recoviering over time, instead of the one-time opportunity of Rest.

On Magnezone, I would suggest you try Flash Cannon over Charge Beam. This lets you hit Latios, Latias, Terrakion, Tyranitar, and several other threats more strongly behind a sub or on the switch.

Other than these suggestions, your team looks pretty good! Good luck!

tl;dr
Volcarona
Rest--->Roost
Chesto--->Leftovers
Fire Blast---Fiery Dance

Magnezone
Charge Beam--->Flash Cannon

Hmm... I'll definitely try out the changes on Volcarona, but I'm going to keep Charge Beam on Magnezone, at least for now. It let's it get set up, and it looses most of it's power if it looses Charge Beam. If anything, Thunderbolt would be the moveslot to sacrifice, but it really needs the accuracy and immediate power. I may try a slightly different set eventually, but it works well for now.
