BSS "Ghostbuster" Alolan Muk [1/1 QC][1/1 GP]

[SET]
Ghostbuster (Stall) (Muk-Alola) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
Tera Type: Poison
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Protect
- Shadow Sneak / Toxic

[SET COMMENTS]

* Alolan Muk is one of the strongest dedicated checks to Calyrex-S for stall teams, boasting incredible Special Defense and a dual typing that isn't weak to Calyrex-S's most common Tera types or Psyshock.

* **Poison Jab**: Combining Poison Jab with Poison Touch gives an amazing 51% chance to inflict poison per hit, making Alolan Muk an excellent status spreader just by attacking.

* **Protect**: Since Alolan Muk's most reliable source of healing is Black Sludge, using Protect for extra recovery turns is critical, as well as for racking up extra damage on poisoned enemies.

* **Shadow Sneak**: Shadow Sneak deals significant damage to Calyrex-S if it hasn't Terastallized and is great for picking off weakened Focus Sash users in general.

* **Toxic**: When forcing switches against Calyrex-S, Toxic can be used to catch problematic checks and put them on a strict timer.

* **Black Sludge**: Even without Tera Poison, Black Sludge is largely preferred over Leftovers because it punishes Trick attempts from Calyrex-S and Lunala.

* **15 Speed IV**: This is an option for underspeeding the slowest Alomomola, making it much harder for the opponent to safely pivot would-be checks into Alolan Muk.

* **EV Spread**: Maximum special bulk means that Calyrex-S's +2 Astral Barrage cannot 2HKO Alolan Muk.

Other Options
========

* **Minimize**: While evasion tactics can be devastating for poisoned targets, it is very inconsistent and risks unnecessary damage that can compromise Alolan Muk's ability to check Calyrex-S long term.

Tera Types
========

* **Tera Dependency - Low:** Any Terastallization on Alolan Muk needs to be meticulously timed, as Terastallization sacrifices its long term survivability against Calyrex-S.

* **Poison**: Tera Poison's Fighting-type and Fairy-type resistances can buy an extra turn against Tera Blast Calyrex-S and Flutter Mane. It also keeps the healing effects of Black Sludge.

* **Flying**: Tera Flying can be used in a pinch to avoid Alolan Muk's sole Ground-type weakness.

This is fine but in my experience, muk doesn't need max spdef. Having a nice atk Stat goes a long way when trying to snipe those fat shadow honse that run lots of hp @ tera fairy. Here's the set derpy and I use:

Muk-Alola (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
Level: 50
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 180 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Poison Jab
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Shadow Sneak

From what I can tell there is a very distinct difference between stall Muk-A and balance (AV) Muk-A. Black Sludge + Max SpD is the standard for stall team Muk-A for the obvious reasons of maximum stall potential.

Assault Vest definitely needs to get mentioned (~26% usage in S29 so far,) but it definitely is just getting incorporated here because there is very little data for it and the ultimate purpose (hard check Caly-S) is still largely unchanged. Some kind of an alternative EV spread for AV should be here too, so if you want to pass the specific calcs to me for the one above I can add it as part of the final product.

This looks good, few notes

- I’d put in items that leftovers is useful for allowing you to run other defensive tera options (I’ve experimented with ground to stop miraidon dead in its tracks to decent success, ghost allows you to use sneak to pick things off from higher hp ranges and avoid close combats from koraidon etc)

- the attack investment on the spread that StarkGod gave is actually to make sure knock off always ohkoes Calyrex after it tera ghosts in tandem with poison touch or a follow up shadow sneak. This helps minimize the threat of specs variants
92+ Atk Muk-Alola Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tera Ghost Calyrex-Shadow: 168-198 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

add these and I’ll stamp this!

Can you elaborate on the context of this a bit more? The general application is easy enough to understand, but I think this is one of those situations where I need to make sure we're clearly distinguishing between "stall" Muk and "balance" Muk. Current Ho-oh stall iterations would never bring Muk to a Koraidon battle, for example, so I'm curious as to what context this comes up in.

If you’re solely focusing on muk on stall then yeah it has little application but on balance and faster paced teams it can be pretty useful

We discussed on Discord and decided it would be best to separate stall Muk from AV Muk. There are a few too many nuances to deal with so it makes more sense this way.

This set is exclusively for stall Muk now and has been modified to reflect that. I changed the descriptive name from "Special Wall" to "Stall" to reflect this. I also opted to leave Leftovers off; if you are using any kind of Tera on Muk-A and Calyrex-S is still alive after the fact, I'd argue you're usually hosed and the Leftovers healing doesn't matter. There's also the fact that, on stall, something else is very likely already using Leftovers.

Ready for another QC check.
