Ghost Monotype Team For National Dex

I’m a casual pogo player & switch, no experience in competitive/Pokémon showdown. When making a team or any decision, I can be very indecisive. I also tend to choose who I like, if I need coverage for someone, and to make sure I have enough coverage for as many types possible. I know there’s mons that people use the most and recommend, which I don’t mind, but also like to be different and be outside of the box. Monotype teams are my favorite to make and use. I think it’s one of the more interesting tiers.

Here’s my team:

Gholdengo @ Air Balloon

Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Make It Rain
- Recover

I chose Gholdengo after deciding between this guy and Aegislash. Decided to go with Gholdengo with Air Balloon to avoid ground type moves and as the switch in for when I need to if any is weak to ground types. He’s definitely one of the main Pokémon I use to OHKO. Provides coverage for rock, ice, and fairy types.

Ceruledge @ Focus Sash
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bitter Blade
- Close Combat
- Shadow Sneak

This slot was a tricky one to choose. I really wanted a fire and ghost type. Originally I was set on Blacephalon, but lacked physical attackers. He’s definitely a strong attacker and can cover several types. His signature move is definitely useful against strong ice, bug, steel, and grass types.

Sinistcha-Masterpiece @ Leftovers
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Matcha Gotcha
- Shadow Ball
- Strength Sap

To cover Ceruledge since he’s weak to water, ground, and rock types, I chose Sinistcha. Definitely an interesting Pokémon and design. Has decent speed as well. Strength sap to heal and lowers opponent’s atta

Zoroark-Hisui @ Normalium Z
Ability: Illusion
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Hyper Voice
- Happy Hour

I needed someone for more speed since most of these mons are on the slower side. Hisuian Zoroark typing with normal and ghost makes it a great teammate to face against fighting types. Not to sure of the happy hour move but did at Z

Froslass @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond
- Spikes

This is another mon I decided to have on my team for speed. Spikes is useful to damage opponents. Destiny bond good be useful but not sure if it’s necessary. Weak to fire, ground, steel, and dark types though which could be an issue since these types are popular. Froslass could be helpful against dragon types.

Mimikyu @ Life Orb
Ability: Disguise
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak

Another physical attacker that can bring some useful moves to this team. Froslass and mimikyu would be great against dragon types. Only weakness is steel, but that’s where Gholdengo and Ceruledge come in to help out.

Tried different combinations of Pokémon’s and moves to get this team together. Felt like something was lacking. I did try this team out against a rock type team. Gholdengo and Ceruledge were definitely the main stars and swept the opponent easily. Froslass was knocked out quickly by Ogerpon with Ivy Cudgel.

Overall I think this team is decent and good coverage. It has some balance, but I still feel like something may be missing. There’s different roles these guys have but are they cohesive? I’m unsure of the movesets. I got them from Smogon, some were up to date and some not. There’s several mons that I have considered that I like: Skeledirge, Blacephalon, Gengar, Palossand, Rotom, Drifblim, Cursola, Spiritomb, Jellicent, and either Mega Sableye or Mega Banette.

Any help, suggestions, or comments is appreciated!

(remove the tera types, they can get confusing)

The only suggestion i would make is CHoice Scarf Blacephalon instead of Zoroark, as Blacephalon is better offensively with Choice Scarf + Beast Boost, but because it overlaps with ceruledge, this change might be a high risk high reward situation.

Everything else looks fine

This is practically as good as Hyper Offense Ghost can get. However, I recommend some Speed control, namely Choice Scarf Hisuian Zoroark or Gholdengo. If you're going with Choice Scarf Hisuian Zoroark, you should give Gholdengo max Speed. Choice Scarf Blacephalon over Ceruledge is also an option but you'd be heavily leaned towards special attackers.
