Gengar vs. Alakazam

One of MY all time debates. Gengar, vs. Alakazam.

I would have to pick Gengar due to his versatility and his outrageous movepool. Kazam just can't match that.

What are your thoughts?

well i prefer gengar..gengar has gotten better options in d/p while both are hurt by pursuit..gengar can come in spikes and it has 3 immunitys..both have low defense but gengar gets the better improve accuraccy of hypnosis..zam lost elemental punches gainshadow ball and energy ball..gengar gets stab from shadow ball and can explode when ever you need too..gengar has better movepool ...so gengar is better in my opinion and also this what i think:

gengar:ou
zam:bl

I always liked the idea of a rivalry between these two....used to be Alakazam > Gengar and I was more in favour of Gengar.

But in D/P its pretty clearly Gengar now, better Hypnosis, double STAB, even more moves than before.

Meanwhile Alakazam lost moves...

Eitherway pointless but fun.

Alakazam got Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Energy Ball/Grass Knot, and special Hidden Power of types that were physical (Ground, Fighting, etc), not to mention the TrickSpecs combo that wrecks support pokémon. It only lost the elemental punches. I agree Gengar looks better on paper and most times in practice, but Alakazam actually won stuff with the transition.

Actually, I like both. Gengar for it's unpredictability, Hypnosis, and a lot of immunities. I like Alakazam for it's higher special attack and speed, and Trick to swap items with something like Bliss. Both are owned by Weavile though.

Only if it has Pursuit, which most Weaviles I see don't. Also some Gengar use Choice Scarf.

The loss of the elemental punches really did hurt Zam a lot. Whereas Gengar's better STAB moves and the +10 accuracy on hypnosis, it's hard not to choose Gengar. Then with the addition of Gengar going "Focus Sash, Counter, Explosion," it just makes him fun to use. :p

Zam did get a few things, yes, but he's still much to fragile to use, especially with Choice Scarf and new priority moves to make the classic psychic dull in comparison to his brothers and sisters.

Besides, if I need a psychic, I'd use Gardevoir, being slightly more sturdy on the special defense side and versatile with status and support.

It's just a shame that Haunter looks so much cooler than Gengar. :p

Gar actually can be switched in with 3 immunities and 2 4x resists. Alakazam has what? two 2x resists or something?
Gar also can beat Blissey, either by punching or booming. And let's not forget Hypnosis and WoW.

I prefer Alakazam, mostly because I've always had one on my in-game teams ever since Blue. Even though Gengar is better hands down, I prefer Alakazam and it's Tricking ability.

And I hate Gengar, it's hideous.

Alakazam.

Gengar might be a pesky annoying little fucker, but it wont do that much damage; Unlike Zam, that thing can hurt a team like you have no idea, the good ol' EncoreZam is very unexpected, and incredibly deadly.

I like Gengar better, personally. 3 immunities to come in on, and he can make decent use of both Focus Punch and Explosion, which I really like.

Cool idea; debates about pokemon vs. pokemon are pretty interesting. However, this isn't a debate and there's really not any discussion going on. Oh well.
