Pokémon Furret

On my way to Tidy Up your messy house :3

Type:
Normal.png

Base Stats: 85 HP / 76 Atk / 64 Def / 45 SpA / 55 SpDef / 90 Spe (BST: 415)

Abilities: Run Away / Keen Eye | Frisk (HA)

  • TIDY UP
  • Coil
  • Double-Edge
  • Play Rough
  • Knock Off
  • Brick Break
  • Zen Headbutt
  • U-turn
  • Fire Punch
  • Thunder Punch
  • Ice Punch

Pros:
  • Furret is EXTREMELY adorable. Your opponents will NOT want to knock out Johto's Finest Pokemon.
  • Tidy Up give this Pokemon an opportunity to be a set-up sweeper and/or a hazard remover. Tidy U is a hazard removing move that cannot be blocked by Ghost-types, unlike Rapid Spin, and Good As Gold, unlike Defog, and is only stopped by Taunt.
  • Furret has better coverage options than its fellow Tidy Up user, Maushold, such as Brick Break for Kingambit and the elemental punches.
Cons:
  • Despite having a more colorful movepool than Maushold, Furret is still largely outclassed by it.
    • While Furret may have one more Attack point than Maushold, the latter is faster and has Population Bomb as an incredibly strong STAB that helps to mitigate its own poor Attack.
    • Furret has to rely on Double-Edge as its main STAB attack, in comparison, which dishes out heavy recoil on an already-frail Pokemon.
  • Furret simply doesn't have the offensive stats to muscle past most of OU's premier threats without heavy support, and its frailty means even many neutral hits threaten to OHKO it in return, and finding set-up opportunities without heavy support is almost impossible.
  • Furret's base speed of 90 may allow it to outrun threats such as Choice Scarf Gholdengo after a Tidy Up boost, but it's still not fast enough for it to keep pace with many of the Booster Energy Paradox Pokemon such as Walking Wake, Iron Valiant, Sandy Shocks, Iron Moth, and Roaring Moon.
Tera Potential:
  • Fairy.png
is arguably Furret's best option. It lets it resist Fighting-type attacks aimed for its Normal-typing such as Great Tusk's Close Combat, resist Sucker Punch from the likes of Kingambit, and gives its Play Rough a much-needed power boost. +1 Life Orb Tera Fairy Play Rough notably lets Furret OHKO offensive Great Tusk after a layer of Spikes.
  • Ghost.png
, like Fairy, shields Furret from Fighting attacks while also making it immune to Dragonite's Extreme Speed.
Sample Set:

Furret @ Life Orb
Ability: Frisk
Tera Type: Fairy / Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Tidy Up
- Double-Edge
- Knock Off
- Play Rough / Brick Break

Tidy Up is the main reason to use Furret at all, giving it +1 Attack and Speed while clearing any entry hazards. Double-Edge is Furret's strongest STAB option, netting OHKOs, at +1 Attack, vs Enamorus, Cinderace, Samurott-H, non-BE Sandy Shocks after 1 layer of Spikes, non-BE / Scarf Iron Valiant, and Sneasler. Knock Off is essential to let Furret get past Ghost-types that are immune to Double-Edge, including Dragapult, Gholdengo, and various offensive Pokemon that Terastallize into a Ghost-type. Knock Off is also nice for removing beneficial items such as Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers, making it easier for Furret to sweep later. Play Rough with Tera Fairy and +1 Attack lets Furret OHKO Tank Garchomp, offensive Great Tusk after 1 Spike layer, Baxcalibur, and 2HKOes standard Ting-Lu and Kingambit. Tera Ghost is a defensive Tera option to be completely immune to Fighting-type attacks while also blocking Extreme Speed from Dragonite, but you lose out on Tera Fairy Play Rough's stopping power. Brick Break is an alternative to Play Rough to OHKO Kingambit after a Tidy Up. Furret has no choice but to run the HP-crippling Life Orb due to its middling Attack stat. Frisk is the best ability Furret has, letting it scout the opponent's items. A Jolly nature is required to outspeed max-Speed Dragapult and Choice Scarf Gholdengo after a Tidy Up.

To say Furret needs a heavy amount of support is an understatement. Dual-Screen support from Grimmsnarl and Alolan Ninetales will give Furret more set-up opportunities, although it'll need to be wary of Infiltrator Dragapult. Spikes setters like Ting-Lu, Garchomp, and Samurott-H let Furret net very important KOes vs Great Tusk and Sandy Shocks while also simply making it easier for Furret to sweep. Ground-type partners such as Great Tusk, Garchomp, and Sandy Shocks break through Steel-types which Furret struggles with, while Magnezone specifically deals with Corviknight. Heatran can be a solid switch-in to Will-o-Wisp, and Magma Storm, Taunt, and Earth Power can trap and remove Toxapex which completely blanks Furret. Enamorus deals with Great Tusk with Moonblast and Heatran with Earth Power, and Healing Wish gives Furret a second chance to sweep later in the game, letting Furret play more aggressively in the early-mid game. Alomomola can provide a very safe WishPass thanks to its slow speed and access to Flip Turn, and can also burn physical threats with Scald.

Overall:

Let's be real. We're not using Furret in OU. It might find a home in PU or something, but it's AG when it comes to cuteness, and it was very nice of Gamefreak to throw it a bone in the form of Tidy Up after so long. YouTubers WILL use this in OU for views, though, so there's that.

I admit this guy will be funny to actually use as a hazard remover in a VERY low tier. Its hazard removal actually can't be blocked by either Ghost-types or Defiant/Competitive respectively, and perhaps you could run some set of Tidy Up/Body Slam/Knock Off/U-Turn somewhere and it gets something done. Its slightly above the Delibird tier of hazard removal so there's that at least.

Its nice they tried to throw it some sort of bone at least. Better than you could say for Mightyena, lol lmao for him I guess.

It does have some niches compared to Maushold. For example, Maushold is fully walled by Kingambit, providing free switch-in, but this little guy has Fire Punch and Brick Break to smash that. Coverage is way better than Maushold's one. Frisk also reveals items. D/C- rank Mon, which is way better than in any other Gen.

I was thinking about Brick Break, just found it initially tough to fit on Furret’s moveset since it only really hurts Kingambit. Thankfully, +1 Tera Fairy Play Rough 2HKOes non-bulky already (bulky would need a bit of chip), but I can see Brick Break being a decent alternative if you’re running a different Tera type besides Fairy. Fire Punch would only really hurt Scizor tbh as it barely does anything to Corviknight and you have Knock for Gholdengo.

Furret is not built for OU. It is built for something greater.

I’ve been around for several eras of online Pokémon discussion. Furret was once a Pokemon so thoroughly out of conversations for anything Pokemon, favorites, competitive uses, anything at all. Even when the topic of obscure Johto Pokémon came around, people talked about Dunsparce first. Then, one day, Furret suddenly surged back with untold popularity all from a singular video. Furret is not made for OU, tidy as its ups may be. It is made as a reminder that sometimes our true time in the spotlight where we are truly loved and celebrated might come at odd times, with seeds sown in odd places, and with the strangest yet most endearing stage. There are times in life where we feel as weak and unviable as a Furret before a heard of paradox Pokemon, no one noticing us, no one paying us attention. Just keep in mind when you’re feeling that down, there’s often a bright and unique future somewhere down the line, with some peppy Accumula Town music to boot.

I got a bit excited seeing it use Tidy Up ingame.
Finally my boy has a use beyond Baton Passing Hone Claws boosts to my Scarf Relicanth in PU before BP got banned.
I expect at the very least it won't drop to ZU.
It could also be a decent BP Pokemon in AG with Tidy Up/Coil antics.

That feeling when in the middle of laughing at Furret's reliance on Double-Edge you get killed by TidyUp + Last Resort combo.

I think this Pokemon won't have a niche in OU since Maushold is better, but in every tier below OU, it will have a place on some teams. The fact is that hazards are broken and a Pokemon that is able to get rid of them with no strings attached and is fast will always have a place in most metagames. If you have a slower Pokemon or defensive Pokemon out, they won't be able to stop Furret from clearing the hazards. This niche will be more valuable the lower one goes in the tiering rung. Considering that Furret is a pokemon that is outclassed by FARFETCH'd in some prior generations, this is a monumental step forward in its viability.

Tera Type: Dark / Water / Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
