Stop. It's gotten way too popular now, and almost 80% of the teams I see are utilizing this combo. At this point in popularity, no one is going to fall for it in an actual battle. I suggest finding a different lead then Gyarados that might draw in a electric attack, but as of now, Gyara is gonna signal that electric attacks shouldn't be used.

Lolz, whenever I see Gyarados, I'm conditioned to Earthquake instead of Thunderbolt now.

To be honest, ALL teams I've seen that lead with Gyara have Electivire.
Why would you stop using the combo just because it's gotten popular? Here's something better: run Gyarados-Electivire. Show your opponent in the battle that you have both Gyarados and Electivire. Now they are faced with a tough decision to hit your Gyarados with an electric attack before it sets up, or not do it because they're afraid of setting Electivire up.
And if you're used to seeing the combo, why wouldn't you abuse it and predict Electivire? Wouldn't that make you happy when it paid off? This kind of bitching is silly.
