Flutter Mane

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Mystical Fire
move 4: Psyshock / Taunt / Thunder Wave / Power Gem
item: Booster Energy / Focus Sash
ability: Protosynthesis
nature: Timid
tera type: Fire / Normal
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Flutter Mane's blistering Speed and Special Attack along with its powerful unresisted STAB combination exerts an oppressive amount of pressure on most teams.

* **Mystical Fire**: Mystical Fire heavily disrupts enemy special attackers, especially in tandem with its already impressive base 135 Special Defense.

* **Taunt and Thunder Wave**: Taunt and Thunder Wave take advantage of Flutter Mane's incredible Speed to disrupt opposing setup strategies.

* **Psyshock versus Power Gem**: Power Gem can be used to catch opposing bulky special sweepers such as Volcarona off guard, while Psyshock significantly dents defensive checks like Clodsire and Toxapex in addition to punishing Iron Moth.

Tera Types
========

* **Fire**: Tera Fire gives Flutter Mane a resistance to Steel, most notably living Scizor's Bullet Punch. It also boosts the power of Mystical Fire.

* **Normal*: Tera Normal should be considered mostly for the mirror match as well as the opportunity to avoid Mimikyu's Shadow Sneak.

EV Spreads
==========

** 116 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 132 Spe**: This alternate EV spread outspeeds Jolly Roaring Moon and survives an opposing Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball without Tera. In addition, Life Orb Mimikyu's Shadow Sneak has a fairly low chance of OHKOing, and Iron Bundle fails to KO with the combination of Hydro Pump and Freeze Dry.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Moonblast
move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Mystical Fire
move 4: Psyshock / Thunderbolt
item: Choice Specs
ability: Protosynthesis
nature: Timid
tera type: Fire / Fairy / Ghost / Normal
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Choice Specs transforms Flutter Mane into a potent wallbreaker.

* **Psyshock**: Psyshock hits common switch-ins like Clodsire and Assault Vest Iron Hands on their weaker Defense stat.

* **Thunderbolt**: Thunderbolt 2HKOes Assault Vest Dondozo.

Tera Types
========

* **Fire**: Tera Fire helps Flutter Mane deal with Scizor and boosts the power of Mystical Fire.

* **Fairy**: Tera Fairy Further boosts Moonblast's impressive damage output while removing Flutter Mane's Ghost weakness.

* **Ghost**: Tera Ghost powers up Shadow Ball and still dodges Extreme Speed.

* **Normal**: Tera Normal is a purely defensive option, ridding Flutter Mane of its conventional type disadvantages altogether.

[SET]
name: Charm
move 1: Charm
move 2: Pain Split
move 3: Calm Mind
move 4: Draining Kiss / Moonblast
item: Booster Energy
ability: Protosynthesis
nature: Timid
tera type: Normal
evs: 124 HP / 252 Def / 132 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* The combination of Charm and Pain Split turns Flutter Mane into a devastating control option, massively crippling opposing offensive threats and healing itself with the combination of Pain Split and Draining Kiss.

* **Calm Mind**: Calm Mind allows Flutter Mane to maintain its role as a sweeper by increasing its damage output while simultaneously reinforcing its longevity.

* **Draining Kiss versus Moonblast**: Moonblast's far superior damage output is a great option versus more defensive teams, while Draining Kiss supplies superior lasting power against more offensive teams.

EV Spreads
========

* **124 HP / 252 Def / 132 Spe with Timid**: The chosen EVs ensure that Flutter Mane will always outspeed Jolly Booster Energy Roaring Moon. Maximum Defense investment gets the most out of Charm with the rest placed into HP.

I’d slash taunt and/or charm in the third move slot for the offensive set as well, these options make offensive flutter mane a very potent lead and it can shut down a lot of setup reliant play with taunt and another support option.

I thought too many slashes would be excessive. Though, I do agree with you.

Usually I try to stick to no more than 3 per line, but slash ins for multiple move slots is totally fine as long as it’s not too messy imo

Gonna check this now! First I'll fix the formatting.

Anyways, on to the checks!

- Was max HP on the first set intentional? I honestly am a lot more used to Sash ones just going full offense, just wondering if that's a mistake or not! If it isn't, we def need an offensive spread mentioned, and probably should talk about what max HP survives. I'll admit I don't recall seeing a lot of max HP ones without Charm, but cart doesn't show usage stats for EVs so I have no idea what's truly the case.

- I really think Psyshock and Power Gem should be slashed in the first set, they're really common on cart for nailing Iron Moth, and Power Gem is cool for smacking Volcarona too. You can see it here via this home image

- This is sorta hard because these options are TOTALLY viable, but I'm thinking for the first set, we can make the last slash in:

move 4: Psyshock / Taunt / Thunder Wave / Power Gem

and make Substitute and Charm other options mentions (we could alternately do that with Power Gem though). Im thinking Psyshock is a good first slash in because besides the usage, dealing with Iron Moth is REALLY useful for a lot of teams!

- You JUST brought this up on Discord, but a Choice set is a good idea, with Specs probably being the first slash in. You can just steal the sample set :P

- Tox brought this EV spread up. It seems like a neat midground between going all offensive. I'm actually not sure if this fits on the Charm set or not, but I think its worth having an EV section and bringing it up on the first set at least, this survives some useful stuff!

Changes made. Included the Tox evs as a mention in the first set. Those benchmarks are far better suited for offensive Mane. Charm is already running cm and hits the same speed tier. Unsure about memento. Feel like it was more of a week 1 tech.

This is almost good to go! There's only a few other things I'd add.

- I'd specfically mention Scizor when talking about Tera Fire, that thing is a BIG problem for Flutter Mane, so roasting it is a big deal imo!

- I'd give a mention to Tera Fairy for the offensive and specs set. It's really nothing more than "fairy moves hurt, you remove ghost weakness". I think they're the lesser options though because it makes Flutter Mane vulnerable to Extreme Speed without fixing the issues with Bullet Punch. I should note though it is by far the most common tera at almost 40% usage.

- Tera Ghost is worth a mention, similar stuff but you aren't weak to Extreme Speed.

- I'd probably explain what Thunderbolt does in the Specs set: It usually 2HKOs AV Dondozo, who hilariously can otherwise avoid a 2HKO from Specs Flutter Mane, no joke lol.

- I'd mention Iron Moth when you mention Psyshock, that thing is a BIG target considering its iffy Defense stat.

- Finally, I think Tera Normal should be slashed in to the Specs set, it basically does the same things as the offensive set, "saves you from ghost moves". Explain what those two do on the specs set too with slightly different wording, so GP doesn't get mad LOL.

anyways once that stuff is addressed, this is good to go imo!
