XY Doubles First Trick Room Team Attempt

Aggron @ Aggronite

Ability: Sturdy

EVs: 16 HP/92 Attack/148 Defense/252 Sp. Def

Nature: Relaxed

  • Iron Head
  • Dragon Claw
  • Rock Slide
  • Protect
I'd wanted to use Mega Aggron for a while because, besides being one of my favorite megas appearance wise, it's base attack and defense seem quite formidable, and it's speed makes it perfect for a Trick Room team. Generally, Aggron starts the battle with Kecleon as a partner, or Dusclops if it looks like the enemy's holding Fake Out: after protecting the first turn and activating Trick Room on that turn, Aggron turns into one of the fastest on the field. Kecleon actually outpaces it under Trick Room, allowing me to Skill Swap Protean onto it, giving it STAB on everything and taking care of it's traditional weaknesses. Rock Slide is coverage, and hits Smogonbird and Charizard Y hard, Dragon Claw is to hit Garchomp and Protean into incoming attacks, Protect is obvious, and Iron Head is for solid damage when I don't get the chance to use Skill Swap. I've been considering switching to a Brave Nature and investing more into attack, because even with a base 140 attack, I'm not hitting quite as hard as I'd like to. Thoughts?

Kecleon @ Sitrus Berry

Ability: Protean

EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Sp. Def

Nature: Relaxed

  • Trick Room
  • Return
  • Skill Swap
  • Disable
Turns out Kecleon actually has surprisingly good special bulk, though the same can't be said for the physical side, with 60/70/120 defensive stats. Hence, full investment into the former two. Under Trick Room, Kecleon is almost assured to be the slowest on the field, and can Skill Swap the Protean ability to any of his partners. Disable is there to block incoming power attacks, and Return is just for emergency offense, playing off Kecleon's average 90 base attack.

Dusclops @ Eviolite

Ability: Frisk

EVs: 252 HP/160 Def/96 Sp. Def

Sassy Nature

  • Night Shade
  • Trick Room
  • Will O Wisp
  • Psychic
Dusclops is the other Trick Roomer on the team, for situations where Kecleon wouldn't be super practical. Will O Wisp is also massively helpful because, with Dusclops' bulk, it's almost guaranteed to get one or two off before going down, as well as breaking through King's Shield. Night Shade is for damage dealing, psychic is for any fighting types I might have to deal with. I haven't actually found a situation where I needed it though...

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest

Ability: Sand Stream

EVs: 252 HP/252 Att/4 Sp. Def

Adamant Nature

  • Rock Slide
  • Ice Punch
  • Crunch
  • Brick Break
Gives Sandstorm support to Aggron and Swampert and deals with some of the more common threats in VGC: Smogonbird and Charz Y are both generally ohko'd by Rock Slide, Ice Punch takes care of Garchomp, and Crunch is for Gardevoir. Brick Break was for dealing with screens, but it hasn't found too much use yet. Should I replace it for Protect to work with Swampert's EQ?

Swampert @ Leftovers

Ability: Damp

EVs: 4 HP/252 Att/132 Def/120 Sp. Def

Adamant Nature

  • Earthquake
  • Hammer Arm
  • Ice Punch
  • Protect
Not much to say here: it takes attacks and sends them back. Earthquake is STAB, Ice Punch and Hammer Arm are coverage, and Protect is there. I might switch Protect for Aqua Tail: a couple of times now I've been in a situation where a water attack would have shifted the battle in my favor.

Talonflame @ Life Orb

Ability: Gale Wings

EVs: 252 HP/252 Att/4 Sp. Att

  • Overheat
  • Brave Bird
  • Protect
  • Flare Blitz
Talonflame is for those situations in which I no longer have Trick Room support. Overheat is a surprise, one time use surprise attack, the other three moves are fairly obvious. This one hasn't seen too much use yet: it took part in one battle where it took around 50% of a Registeel's health then died to it's partner.

Aaand that's basically it. Any problems that anyone can see? I'm a bit worried about my offensive group getting burned: I don't have a cleric, and no reliable means of staving off the burn either. I also didn't realize before typing all this, but I probably need a special attacker as well.
