Overview
########
Thanks to its ability, typing, and defensive stats, Ferrothorn is a real nuisance for physical attackers to face. It also does a great job against a wide range of special attackers, including Latios, Jirachi, and Cresselia. Rain teams in particular usually struggle to break through Ferrothorn, which checks common rain sweepers such as Kingdra, Ludicolo, and Azumarill well with its great typing. Ferrothorn's low base Speed makes it a good check to Trick Room teams and lets it deal heavy damage to fast threats with Gyro Ball. It is a great answer to the ever-present Mega Kangaskhan; Iron Barbs discourages the use of Fake Out from the opponent and acts as a safety net against even the most powerful physical attackers. Whilst its typing does it some favors, Ferrothorn is 4x weak to Fire-type moves, which is a dangerous attribute in a metagame where Charizard and Heatran are commonly used. In addition to this, Grass- and Steel-type moves don't provide great coverage, and Ferrothorn's offenses can thus feel lackluster; consequently, it relies on Leech Seed or Thunder Wave to cripple opposing Pokemon that it can't damage with its STABs, making it setup bait for threats such as Heatran.

Moves

Power Whip is for bulky Water-types such as Politoed, Rotom-W, and Jellicent, also hitting other common threats like Tyranitar and Mamoswine. Gyro Ball makes Ferrothorn an excellent answer to powerful Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Togekiss, and Sylveon whilst also assuring consistent damage on the faster threats in the metagame, cleanly 2HKOing Garchomp and Latios. Thunder Wave is an alternative option which Ferrothorn can utilize well thanks to its great bulk, allowing it to spread paralysis and also cripple common switch-ins. Leech Seed improves Ferrothorn's longevity whilst also dealing consistent chip damage and forcing switches. It also helps Ferrothorn stall out opposing Trick Room teams as most Trick Room setters and users are bulky, meaning Ferrothorn often gains a significant amount of health from Leech Seed. Protect allows Ferrothorn to scout enemy attacks and also steal more HP through Leech Seed. It also gives Ferrothorn a turn to avoid any damage whilst its partner handles a threat that it may struggle with.

Set Details
========
172 Attack EVs ensure Ferrothorn can OHKO both Rotom-W and Jellicent with Power Whip. It also means Gyro Ball will OHKO 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss under Tailwind. The remaining EVs are put into Defense so Ferrothorn can tank physical hits better. A Brave nature is used to help Ferrothorn perform better as a Trick Room check and power up its Gyro Ball. 0 Speed IVs are used for the same reason. Players using Thunder Wave and Gyro Ball on the same set should be wary of the fact that Gyro Ball's power is based on how much slower Ferrothorn is than the opponent. Lum Berry is the preferred item as it lets Ferrothorn absorb a burn from Rotom-W or Jellicent before OHKOing with Power Whip in return. It also allows Ferrothorn to easily handle Thunder Wave Togekiss, which can be very obtrusive. A Rocky Helmet can be used to help rack up easy damage and discourage the use of Fake Out. 252 Attack EVs can be used for Gyro Ball to OHKO Latios (after Life Orb damage) and Tornadus. A specially defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD with a Relaxed nature is also usable; with this spread, Ferrothorn can take three Ice Beams from Modest Kyurem-B.

Usage Tips
========
Ferrothorn is easy to switch into a multitude of physical threats and can even get chip damage off through Iron Barbs; for instance by switching into a Fake Out from Pokemon such as Mega Kangakhan or Hitmontop. Through the use of Leech Seed and Protect, Ferrothorn can stall out Trick Room with ease. In addition to this, it can handle Trick Room threats such as Rhyperior and Sylveon with its low Speed and powerful STAB moves. Ferrothorn is also a good lure for Jellicent and Rotom-W; it can absorb a burn with Lum Berry and then OHKO with Power Whip.

Team Options
========
Chandelure makes a good teammate for Ferrothorn as it can absorb any Fire-type attacks with Flash Fire while being immune to the Fighting-type attacks that threaten Ferrothorn. Heatran is a bulkier Flash Fire user, but it shares a Fighting-type weakness with Ferrothorn. Trick Room-setting partners such as Cresselia can ensure Ferrothorn moves first and thus help it to avoid taking hits from any threats it can OHKO. Politoed can provide rain support to lessen Ferrothorn's Fire-type weakness; it also handles Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran. Fighting-type Pokemon blast through the Steel-types that Ferrothorn struggles to break through. Terrakion is a good choice because it also resists the Fire-type moves that Ferrothorn fears. Tyranitar can remove sun and provide additional chip damage by setting up sand.

Other Options
########
Knock Off can help Ferrothorn deprive Pokemon of Choice items as well as recovery from items such as Sitrus Berry or Leftovers. Through the use of a Chople Berry, Ferrothorn makes for an effective lure to both Keldeo and Terrakion, as it can survive their Fighting-type attacks and strike back with either Power Whip or Gyro Ball. Leftovers or a Sitrus Berry can be used to aid with Ferrothorn's staying power thanks to the recovery they provide. A Choice Band set with Power Whip, Gyro Ball, Knock Off, and Explosion can be used, but it's far less effective than the above set. Bulldoze can be used to surprise Heatran switch-ins and also provide speed control. Iron Head can be used over Gyro Ball to deal more damage to slower threats such as Mega Abomasnow; it also comes with a flinch chance that can prove to be useful under Trick Room. Occa Berry can help Ferrothorn survive the odd Fire-type attack. Although it isn't nearly as effective as it is in in singles, Stealth Rock is a viable option that Ferrothorn can easily fit onto its set.

**Intimidate Users**: Whilst Intimidate does not render Ferrothorn useless, it is a hindrance. Landorus-T, Scrafty, and Hitmontop are common Intimidate users that can make Ferrothorn miss out on significant OHKOs such as Rotom-W, Jellicent, and Togekiss under Tailwind.

**Offensive Typing Advantage**: Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran, Talonflame, and Mega Charizard Y can all easily KO Ferrothorn with their 4x effective STABs. Fighting-types such as Conkeldurr and Terrakion can punch their way through Ferrothorn's defenses. Rotom-H is one of the best switch-ins to Ferrothorn as it resists both of the latter's STABs, is immune to Thunder Wave, and can proceed to OHKO with Overheat.

**Utility Moves**: Ferrothorn provides lots of opportunities for Pokemon such as Heatran and Aegislash to set up a Substitute. Both threats can become immediately more threatening behind a Substitute, putting you in a dangerous position. Due to its low Speed, it's easy to lock Ferrothorn into a non-damaging move such as Leech Seed or Protect through the use of Encore.

  • Iron Barbs coupled with great defensive stats and a solid typing make Ferrothorn a real nuisance for physical attackers
  • Being a Grass-type means Ferrothorn does a great job at making rain teams miserable
  • Slow speed lets Ferrothorn do a good job as a Trick Room check and also powers up it's Gyro Ball to absurd levels against faster threats
  • Shuts down popular Pokemon such as Latios, Laudicolo, Politoed, Azumarill, Venusaur and Mega Kangaskhan.
  • One of the few Pokemon able to OHKO common Rotom-W spreads
  • Leech Seed means it isn't worn down too quickly
  • Being 4x weak to Fire-type moves is no fun in a meta with Mega Charizard-Y and Heatran being so popular
  • Offenses can feel lackluster when it is not hitting for super effective damage
  • Ferrothorn can give the opponent lots of opportunities to set up a Substitute.

TANK AND SPANK

move 2: Gyro Ball
move 3: Leech Seed / Thunder Wave
move 4: Protect
ability: Iron Barbs
item: Lum Berry / Rocky Helmet
evs: 252 HP / 172 Atk / 84 Def
ivs: 0 Spe
nature: Brave

Moves
========
  • Power Whip provides the seldom seen Grass-type STAB which makes Ferrothorn a great option for handling bulky Water-types such as Politoed, Rotom-W and Jellicent. Other common threats that it hits include Tyranitar and Mamoswine
  • Gyro Ball makes Ferrothorn an excellent answer to powerful Fairy-types like Mega Gardevoir, Togekiss and Sylveon whilst also assuring consistent damage on the faster threats in the metagame. For example, it cleanly 2HKOs Garchomp
  • Leech Seed is great to help Ferrothorn stick around for longer whilst also dealing consistent chip damage and putting pressure on your opponent to make a switch. It is great for helping teams stall out Trick Room since Trick Room setters and abusres are typically bulky and it is easy to sap a lot of HP from them.
  • Thunder Wave is an option over Leech Seed. Ferrothorn can utilize it well thanks to its great bulk, because it hangs around on the field for so long it can easily spread paralysis through the opponents team and do a good job of crippling switch ins. It is not worth using on Trick Room teams and also lessens the damage output of Gyro Ball.
  • Protect allows Ferrothorn to scout out enemy attacks and also gain free turns to steal more HP through Leech Seed. It also gives you a turn to avoid any damage whilst your partner Pokemon handles a threat that Ferrothorn may struggle with.

Set Details
========
  • 172+ Attack ensures Ferrothorn can OHKO both Rotom-W and Jellicent with Power Whip. It also ensures Gyro Ball OHKOs 252 / 0 Togekiss under Tailwind.
  • The rest of the EVs are put into bulk so Ferrothorn can tank hits better.
  • A Brave nature is used to help Ferrothorn perform better as a Trick Room check and also to power up its Gyro Ball. 0 Speed IVs are used for the same reason.
  • Use of a Lum Berry is generally advised since it lets you absorb a burn from Rotom-W or Jellicent before proceeding to OHKO them with Power Whip in return. It also lets Ferrothorn easily handle Thunder Wave Togekiss which can be very obtrusive.
  • A Rocky Helmet can be used to help rack up easy damage and makes Fake Out far less spam-able for the opposition.
  • 252 Attack EVs can be used, this gives Gyro Ball enough power OHKO Latios after Life Orb damage and also provides enough power to OHKO Tornadus.
Usage Tips
========
  • Ferrothorn is easy to switch into a multitude of physical threats and is a great way to get a little bit of chip damage in. Switching into a Fake Out from Pokemon such as Mega Kangakhan or Hitmontop is a notable example of this.
  • Through the use of Leech Seed and Protect, Ferrothorn finds itself able to stall out Trick Room with ease. In addition to this it can use its low speed and STAB moves to handle some Trick Room abusers such as Rhyperior and Sylveon.
  • Ferrothorn is good Rotom-W bait, through the use of a Lum Berry it can absorb a burn and then OHKO Rotom-W with Power Whip. This also applies to Jellicent.

Team Options
========
  • Chandelure makes a good teammate for Ferrothorn since it can use Flash Fire to absorb any Fire-type attacks and has immunity to Fighting-type attacks which Ferrothorn fears. Similarly, Heatran has Flash Fire but the weakness to Fighting-type means it does not have as good synergy with Ferrothorn as Chandelure.
  • Trick Room setting partners such as Cresselia can ensure Ferrothorn can strike first and help it to avoid taking any hits from any threats it can OHKO.
  • Politoed can remove sun, lessen Ferrothorns weakness to Fire-type moves, and handle Fire-type Pokemon such as mega Charizard-Y and Heatran.
  • Fighting-type Pokemon blast through the Steel-type Pokemon that Ferrothorn struggles to break through. Terrakion is a good choice since it also resists the Fire-type moves that Ferrothorn fears.
  • Tyranitar can remove sun and assist in Ferrothorns stalling capabilities with the chip damage from its Sand Stream.

  • Although it isn't nearly effective as it is in in singles, Stealth Rock is a viable option that Ferrothorn can easily fit into it's set.

Checks & Counters
########

*Attack Control**: Whilst Intimidate does not render Ferrothorn useless, it is a hindrance. The attack drop dished out from the likes of Landorus-T, Scrafty, and Hitmontop will lower Ferrothorns damage output meaning it misses out on significant OHKOs such as Rotom-W, Jellicent and Togekiss under Tailwind.

**Offensive Typing Advantage**: Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran, Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y can all easily roast Ferrothorn with their 4x effective STABs. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Conkeldurr and Terrakion can punch their way through Ferrothorns defenses. Rotom-H is one of the best switchins to Ferrothorn since it does not care about Ferrothorns STABs or Thunder Wave and can proceed to OHKO with Overheat.

Overview:
  • In the first bullet, I would mention some really popular Pokemon that Ferrothorn shuts down by typing and bulk alone, such as Latios, Ludicolo, Cresselia, Rotom-W, Azumarill, and Venusaur.
  • I would consider (especially if you slash Rocky Helmet **see below**) highlighting that Ferrothorn reqs Mega Kangaskhan in the overview, considering that it is the hugeass threat atm.
Set:
  • I would probably slash Thunder Wave with Leech Seed, imo, instead of behind Gyro Ball. Gyro Ball is so cool and is more reliable than Power Whip most of the time. Offensive Grass-types have very specific Pokemon that they need to hit, mainly just Rotom-W. Everything else is covered by better Doubles attackers. IDC what order you put Gyro Ball and Power Whip, or whether you slash T-Wave or Leech Seed first, because there are merits for all of them.
  • I want to see Rocky Helmet somewhere near the set, whether replacing Leftovers or just being mentioned in set details. The easy damage is invaluable, and it forces the opponent to neglect Fake Out. It also lets Ferro hard counter Mega Kanga, who can power through teams easier if Ferrothorn switches in on a PuP.
  • Add to the Grass-bullet that Ferrothorn deals with practically every sleeper outstandingly.
  • @below Knock Off is fine in OO imo. I am cool with the bulkier EV spread but i wanna see calcs of Gyro Ball vs Togekiss, Power Whip vs Jellicent, and Power Whip vs TTar first, cause if the new spread misses out on any KOs that the current one wouldn't, than it is a nono.
Moves:
  • Minor but I would mention not to use Thunder Wave if Ferrothorn is on a Trick Room team.
Set Details:
  • Lum Berry also lets Ferrothorn hard counter T-Wave Togekiss, who is a huge dick.
Team Options:
  • TR setting partners like Cress, and you can add it to Chande's description.
  • Politoed for beating Charizard-Y and Heatran and removing Ferro's Fire-type weakness.
  • TTar also beats Fire-types and lets Ferro stall out threats even faster under sand.
Other Options:
  • Occa Berry
Checks and Counters:
  • Intimidate users.
  • Mega Manectric can switch in on Gyro Ball or T-Wave, Intimidate it, and has Overheat.
  • Rotom-H can switch in without fearing T-Wave and threaten it with a STAB Overheat.
  • HP Fire could be placed on Special attackers such as Latios to lure it in, but HP Ground is more common thanks to Heatran.
  • Highlight that Conkeldurr can mitigate the Iron Barbs damage with Drain Punch.
  • Substitute/Taunt users stop Leech Seed, T-Wave, and Protect spam.

Lolk made these changes now
Here are the calcs requested
172+ Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (144 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss: 402-474 (107.4 - 126.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO (this is in TW btw, 252+ will not 2HKO past sitrus recovery 100 percent of the time outside of TW)
172+ Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Jellicent: 428-506 (105.9 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
172+ Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 296-350 (73.2 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (252+ does not OHKO either)

I was thinking that the 172+ spread would work better with the Rocky Helmet and 252+ with the Lum, maybe mention that?

Nah since the 172+ doesn't miss out on Rotom-W or Jellicent, and the 252 misses out on ttar, I think the 172 is all you need.

Also put lefties in OO now and QC 1/3

did a check over irc, you know what to do. There wasn't much, since this is a thorough skeleton which got a thorough first check.

2/3 get writin :]

Mkay, this is all sorted and written up now.

If Pocket wouldn't mind stopping by and letting me know what I should call the set (TANK AND SPANK probably isn't appropriate) that would be nice. Feel free to check it whilst you're here =]

In the overview, I'd mention how Ferrothorn doesn't give 2 shits about Amoonguss, ignoring its Rage Powder and Spore. I'd also mention that Ferrothorn is a great answer to Azumarill, Mega Venusaur, and Swift Swimmers, as well as being a hindrance to Kangaskhan, especially if it's holding Rocky Helmet. It also molests Latios, Jirachi, and Cresselia without Fire moves.

You said under Moves that you don't recommend Gyro Ball with Thunder Wave... what alternative move do you suggest over Gyro Ball's spot then. You gotta follow through :0. I personally think having both Gyro Ball and Thunder Wave can come in handy. There are fast Pokemon that you want to simply dispose it with Gyro Ball rather than paralyzing it with Thunder Wave (ie Gardevoir and Garchomp)

Under Set Details, I'll definitely mention an alternative defensive spread @ Leftovers to take advantage of Ferrothorn's raw bulk. The offensive Ferrothorn we have now does not take special hits as well as you'd expect - it can wear down quickly to Rain-boosted or neutral hits. I suggest 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD, Relaxed Nature. This spread allows Ferrothorn to survive 3 Modest Ice Beams from Kyurem-B with Leftovers recovery.

Under Team Options, I would hesitate to mention Charizard Y as a Fire-type that Politoed handles well, because usually Charizard Y nerfs Politoed by summoning Drought and firing off SolarBeams. Most readers who have played BW2 OU, where Sun fared well against Rain, would scratch their head when they read this.

Other Options - I'd mention Chople Berry to comfortably survive Terrakion's Close Combat / Keldeo's Secret Sword and OHKO back with Gyro Ball / Power Whip.
Iron Head can be used over Gyro Ball to deal more damage to Togekiss and Sylveon. It also comes with a handy flinch chance which can come in useful under Trick Room.
Those are bad examples, because Gyro Ball does WAAAY more to Togekiss than Iron Head, and Gyro Ball and Iron Head are both 2HKOs on Sylveon anyways. A better example would be Mega Abomasnow.

**Utility Moves** - Sub Aegislash is a big one that can set up on Ferrothorn. You should also mention Thundurus for resisting Ferrothorn's STABs and taunting Ferrothron's utility move.

QC Approved (3/3)

sorry i never actualy checked ferro earlier but this is a minor change so forgive me pls? thunder wave should be slashed with gyro ball not leech seed

Thanks Pocket
Regarding Iron Head,
172+ Atk Ferrothorn Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss: 224-266 (59.8 - 71.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
172+ Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (72 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss: 204-240 (54.5 - 64.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Obviously the damage output is based on speed. I decided to check out the most common spreads but they weren't particularly helpful since the majority of them lie under other

I'll remove Sylveon and Togekiss in relation to Iron Head but it is slightly more powerful vs 0 Spe Togekiss.
I changed the way I described TWave + Gyro Ball and moved into set details since Gyro Ball / TWave are slashed on same slot thanks to pwne the fuckpig.
The rest of the changes were fairly simple and have been made.

Because of this, Ferrothorn relies on Leech Seed or Thunder Wave to cripple opposing Pokemon that it can't damage with its STABs, this means it is easy for Pokemon such as Heatran to set up a Substitute in its face.

Power Whip provides the seldom seen Grass-type STAB which makes Ferrothorn a great option for handling and deals super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Politoed, Rotom-W, (AC) and Jellicent, (AC) as well as some other threats such as Tyranitar and Mamoswine. Other common threats that it hits include Tyranitar and Mamoswine. It gives you a turn to avoid any damage whilst your partner Pokemon handles a threat that Ferrothorn may struggle with.

(Similarly, Heatran has Flash Fire but the weakness to Fighting-type means it does not have as good synergy with Ferrothorn as Chandelure) - (I don't see why this is in here: If Chandelure is obviously a better option then I question whether you should mention Heatran, but up to you.). Trick Room setting partners such as Cresselia can ensure Ferrothorn can strike move first and help it to avoid taking any hits from any threats it can OHKO. Politoed can provide rain support which lessen Ferrothorn's (Add apostrophe) weakness to Fire-type moves. In addition to this, it does a good job of handling Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran which normall Ferrothorn can't touch. Fighting-type Pokemon partner well with Ferrothorn as they Pokemon blast deal super effective through the Steel-type Pokemon that Ferrothorn struggles to break through. Terrakion is a good choice since since it also resists the Fire-type moves that Ferrothorn fears. Tyranitar can remove sun and assist in Ferrothorn's (Add apostrophe) stalling capabilities with the chip damage from its Sand Stream.

Both of these Pokemon immediately become even more threatening behind a Substitute, so this can put your team in a very dangerous position. Due to its low Speed, it's easy to lock Ferrothorn into a non damaging move such as Leech Seed or Protect through the use of Encore.

Please wait for this to be stamped by an official GP member, and please ignore these dumbass hide tags :<

That's a pretty good check Kangaaroo, but there were a few unnecessary / erroneous changes you made, along with some you missed, so I'll work on top of your amateur check and GP this.

Overview

Thanks to its ability, typing, and defensive stats, (replace semi-colon with comma) Ferrothorn is a real nuisance for physical attackers to face. Ferothorn It also does a great job against a wide range of special attackers, Notable examples including Latios, Jirachi, (add comma) and Cresselia. Rain teams in particular usually struggle to break through Ferrothorn, which checks thanks to its typing which does a great job at stopping common rain sweepers such as Kingdra, (add comma) and Ludicolo, (add comma) and Azumarill well with its great typing. Thanks to a low base Speed, Ferrothorn can act as a great check to Trick Room. Not only this, but, Gyro Ball is also powered up to high levels to provide great damage against a variety of faster threats Ferrothorn's low base Speed makes it a good check to Trick Room teams and lets it deal heavy damage to fast threats with Gyro Ball. Ferrothorn It is a great answer to the ever-present Mega Kangaskhan; Iron Barbs discourages the use of Fake Out from the opponent and acts as a safety net against even the most powerful physical attackers. Whilst its typing does it some favors, Ferrothorn is 4x weak to Fire-type moves, (add comma) which is a dangerous attribute in a metagame where Charizard and Heatran top the usage stats are commonly used. In addition to this, Grass- and Steel-type moves don't provide great super effective coverage, (add comma) and Ferrothorn's offenses can thus feel lackluster; consequently, it when it isn't getting super effective hits. Ferrothorn relies on Leech Seed or Thunder Wave to cripple opposing Pokemon that it can't damage with its STABs, this means it is easy for Pokemon such as Heatran to set up a Substitute in its face making it setup bait for threats such as Heatran.

Power Whip provides the seldom seen Grass-type STAB which makes Ferrothorn a great option for lets Ferrothorn handle bulky Water-types such as Politoed, Rotom-W, (add comma) and Jellicent, also hitting other common threats that it hits include like Tyranitar and Mamoswine. Gyro Ball makes Ferrothorn an excellent answer to powerful Fairy-types like such as Mega Gardevoir, Togekiss, (add comma) and Sylveon whilst also assuring consistent damage on the faster threats in the metagame, For example, it cleanly 2HKOing common threats such as Garchomp and Latios. Thunder Wave is an alternative option which Ferrothorn can utilize well thanks to its great bulk, allowing it to spread paralysis and also cripple common switch-ins Ferrothorn can easily spread paralysis through the opponents team and do a good job of crippling switch ins. Leech Seed is great to help Ferrothorn stick around for longer improves Ferrothorn's longevity whilst also dealing consistent chip damage and putting pressure on your opponent to make a switch forcing switches. It also helps Ferrothorn stall out opposing Trick Room teams as most Trick Room setters and users are bulky, meaning they lose a significant amount of health to Leech Seed. It is great for helping teams stall out Trick Room since Trick Room setters and abusers are typically bulky and it is easy to sap a lot of HP from them. Protect allows Ferrothorn to scout out enemy attacks and also Ferrothorn opportunities to steal more HP through Leech Seed. It gives you Ferrothorn a turn to avoid any damage whilst your its partner Pokemon handles a threat that Ferrothorn it may struggle with.

Set Details

172 Attack EVs ensure Ferrothorn can OHKO both Rotom-W and Jellicent with Power Whip. It also means Gyro Ball will OHKO 252 HP / 0 Def Togekiss under Tailwind. The remaining EVs are put into Defense so Ferrothorn can tank physical hits better. A Brave nature is used to help Ferrothorn perform better as a Trick Room check and also to power up its Gyro Ball. 0 Speed IVs are used for the same reason. Players using Thunder Wave and Gyro Ball on the same set should be wary of the fact that Gyro Ball's power is based on how much slower Ferrothorn is than the opponent. Use of a Lum Berry is generally advised the preferred item since it lets you Ferrothorn absorb a burn from Rotom-W or Jellicent before proceeding to OHKOing them with Power Whip in return. It also lets allows Ferrothorn to easily handle Thunder Wave Togekiss, (add comma) which can be very obtrusive. A Rocky Helmet can be used to help rack up easy damage. It also and discourage the use of Fake Out from your opponent. 252 Attack EVs can be used, this gives for Gyro Ball enough power to OHKO Latios (after Life Orb damage) and also provides enough power to OHKO Tornadus. For those looking for a bulkier Ferrothorn, an A specially defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD with a Relaxed Nature is suggested also usable; with this spread, Ferrothorn can take three Ice Beams from Modest Kyurem-B.

Usage Tips
========
Ferrothorn is easy to switch into a multitude of physical threats and is a great way to can even get a little bit of chip damage in off through Iron Barbs, for instance, by switching into a Fake Out from Pokemon such as Mega Kangakhan or Hitmontop is a notable example of this. Through the use of Leech Seed and Protect, Ferrothorn finds itself able to can stall out Trick Room with ease. In addition to this, it can use its low speed and STAB moves to handle some Trick Room abusers users such as Rhyperior and Sylveon with its low Speed and powerful STAB moves. Ferrothorn is also a good lure for Jellicent and Rotom-W bait; through the use of a Lum Berry it can absorb a burn with Lum Berry and then OHKO Rotom-W with Power Whip. This also applies to Jellicent.

Team Options
========
Chandelure makes a good teammate for Ferrothorn since it can use Flash Fire to absorb any Fire-type attacks with Flash Fire while being immune to the Fighting-type attacks that threaten Ferrothorn. It also has immunity to Fighting-type attacks which Ferrothorn fears. Similarly, Heatran has Flash Fire but the weakness to Fighting-type means it does not have as good synergy with Ferrothorn as Chandelure Heatran is a bulkier Flash Fire user, but it shares a Fighting-type weakness with Ferrothorn. Trick Room setting partners such as Cresselia can ensure Ferrothorn can strike moves first and thus help it to avoid taking any hits from any threats it can OHKO. Politoed can provide rain support which to lessen Ferrothorn's Fire-type weakness; it also handles to Fire-type moves. In addition to this, it does a good job of handling Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran. Fighting-type Pokemon blast through the Steel-types Pokemon that Ferrothorn struggles to break through. Terrakion is a good choice since it also resists the Fire-type moves that Ferrothorn fears. Tyranitar can remove sun and assist in Ferrothorns stalling capabilities with the provide additional chip damage by setting up sand from its Sand Stream.

Other Options
########

Access to Knock Off can help Ferrothorn deprive Pokemon of Choice items as well as recovery from things like a items such as Sitrus Berry or Leftovers. Through the use of a Chople Berry, Ferrothorn makes for an effective lure to both Keldeo and Terrakion, (add comma) as it can survive their Fighting-type STABs and strike back with either Power Whip or Gyro Ball. Leftovers or a Sitrus Berry can be used to aid with Ferrothorn's staying power thanks to the recovery they provide. A Choice Band set with Power Whip, Gyro Ball, Knock Off, (add comma) and Explosion can be used but it's far less effective than the above set. Bulldoze can be used to surprise Heatran switch-ins and also help provide speed control. Iron Head can be used over Gyro Ball to deal more damage to slower threats such as Mega Abomasnow; it also comes with a handy flinch chance which can come in useful that can prove to be useful under Trick Room. The use of an Occa Berry can help Ferrothorn survive the odd Fire-type attack and give it an opportunity to use Leech Seed or an attack. Although it isn't nearly as effective as it is in in singles, Stealth Rock is a viable option that Ferrothorn can easily fit onto its set.

**Attack Control**: Whilst Intimidate does not render Ferrothorn useless, it is a hindrance. **Offensive Typing Advantage**: Fire-type Pokemon such as Heatran, Talonflame, (add comma) and Mega Charizard Y can all easily roast Ferrothorn with their 4x effective STABs. Fighting-types Pokemon such as Conkeldurr and Terrakion can punch their way through Ferrothorn's defenses. Rotom-H is one of the best switch-ins to Ferrothorn since it does not care about Ferrothorns STABs resists both of the latter's STABs, is immune to or Thunder Wave, (add comma) and can proceed to OHKO with Overheat.

The prose was quite fluff-ridden. Please stick to the point when writing an analysis; most readers won't have the patience to sit and ready through flowery prose, especially in a write-up that is meant to be instructive. There were also quite a few careless mistakes (such as "Ferrothron" and "Ferrothorns") that could have been avoided.

You can go through any of the well-written on-site analyses to get an idea of the standards we expect from writers. The Spelling and Grammar Standards thread will also help. Contact me if you have any doubts with my changes; I'll be glad to help ^__^
