Feraligatr Bulky Offense - #ThereWillBeGators
Yoooo, what's poppin', it's me Skarmx2 with another ORAS RMT. It's been a while since I made my last RMT b/c I didn't want to make an RMT unless it was a team I really enjoyed using. Anyways, I thought this would clash nicely with me getting voice recently so here I am. Enough talk though, let's get straight into it :]

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS

feraligatr.png
Feraligatr - My favourite Gen 2 Starter and my first starter in HG SS (closely followed by Typhlosion) Ever since Sheer Force was released, this thing became a monster and the base of which my team was built around. The main sweeper and the Water type of my FWG core.

feraligatr.png
+
venusaur-mega.png
Mega Venusaur - Not my favourite Gen 1 Starter (Charizard all the way :]) but nonetheless is an excellent partner to Gatr and is my offensive check to Electric, Ice, Fire and Fairy types. The Grass type in my FWG core.

feraligatr.png
+
venusaur-mega.png
+
heatran.png
Heatran - Rounding off my FWG core is SpD Heatran, which is my counter to Talonflame, Serperior and Tornadus-Therian. Providing rocks support and STAB Lava Plume, Tran is a solid teammate to the other two.

clefable.png
Clefable - Now, my next step was to see what threatened this core and I saw at once that Kyurem-Black and tears it apart. Kyurem-Black has few counters and checks but Clef caught my eye for it's typing and bulk as well as access to Thunder-Wavethe best move in the gamefor some speed control. Also gave me a backup sweeper with CM + MG.

mandibuzz.png
Mandibuzz - I also realised that Gengar was also an immediate threat to this as well and that I lacked a defogger. Thus, Mandibuzz was chosen for it's typing, bulk and access to a variety of utility moves.

tangrowth.png
Tangrowth - This last slot was difficult. AV Tangrowth seemingly fixed my Electric weakness, as well as giving me a another Keldeo check, which I needed. Also had Regenerator, making it a nice pivot and giving me an offensive presence with it's coverage.

slowbro.png
Slowbro - Sadly, I got rid of Shia Tangrowth as Talonflame was a bit of a problem for this team and it applied a lot of pressure on Heatran to check it and other threats. I still wanted a pivot and a more physically defensive wall and needed another Keldeo check so I chose Slowbro. It's typing also helped with fast, physical threats that would run rampant on my team.

garchomp.png
Tornadus-Therian and Garchomp - Thanks to BlazeLatias for the suggestions, Tank Chomp and AV Torn-T fixed my gaping Gengar and Bisharp weaknesses. True, it did make me more weak to Weavile, so I am thinking about maybe changing Mega Venusaur to a more bulky set. I also no longer have hazard control which isn't too much of a problem.

Godzilla @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Earthquake/Superpower/Ice Punch

I had originally ScarTar as part of my core to Pursuit trap the Latis and Starmie. However, this made me very weak to Gengar and ScarfTar was soon swapped for Mandibuzz. However, it can still be run and used to trap the aforementioned Gengar, Latis and Starmie.

Shia @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Seemingly patched up my electric weakness and gave a nice pivot with Regenerator. However, it was soon replaced by Slowbro, as Talonflame was too much of a problem.

New World Order (Mandibuzz) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 104 Def / 140 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Foul Play
- Knock Off
- Roost

Previously my Gengar check, and gave me a much needed ground immunity, and utility with Defog and Knock Off. Later suggested by BlazeLatias that I should switch to Torn-T to give my team some much needed speed and an offensive prescence and I haven't looked back since.

shellderxslowpoke (Slowbro) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 220 Def / 32 SpD / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off

Slowbro replaced Tangrowth as a pivot/physical wall and was used to help with Talonflame and other physical attackers. However, it just made me very Bisharp weak so I changed it to TankChomp, which helped with Bisharp and other physical attackers and helped check Talonflame.

#WillBeGators (Feraligatr) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance

The mascot of the team, Feraligatr also happens to be my only physical attacker (besides Mandibuzz) and is my main setup sweeper. The EVs are pretty self explanatory; max attack and speed to maximise damage output with a Jolly nature to outspeed base 70s such as Bisharp and Breloom. Sheer Force as the ability because it cancels out LO's recoil and gives Gatr a free 1.6x damage boost, due to all it's moves having secondary effects. Waterfall as the STAB, Ice Punch to hit Dragons, Grass and Flying types, Crunch to hit the Psychic and Ghosts and DD to boost Gatr's speed and attack into insane levels. Superpower and Aqua Jet can be used to beat Ferrothorn and Talonflame respectively if you feel it requires it. Feraligatr has great potential to be a massive threat in the OverUsed Tier if played correctly and can even sweep teams straight up.

venusaur-mega.png
venusaur-mega.gif
venusaur-mega.png

Bruteroot (Venusaur-Mega) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 196 HP / 252 SpA / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

When searching for partners for Feraligatr, I noticed that Gatr was easily walled by two very common mons; Ferrothorn and Azumarill. It was also weak to Grass and Electric moves. Thus, to me, Mega Venusaur was the perfect partner. It's typing and ability also helped check and counter fast Electric and Grass types such Mega Manetric, Thundurus and Serperior, all of which gave Feraligatr a hard time. I opted for a more offensive set, because while I wanted to check many threats, I also wanted to hit as hard as I could. Mega Venu is still decently bulky even without much investement. The Speed EVs allow Mega Venusaur hit 210 after the HP Fire IV, allowing it to outspeed mons such as Rotom-W, Adamant Crawdaunt, Suicune and Azumarill and severely dent them or even OHKO. Max SpA with a Modest nature so i dish out as much damage as possible and the rest in HP to make me as bulky as possible without fully investing. Chlorophyll is the chosen ability before mega-evolving allowing me to get a free speed boost in the sun. Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb are good STABs, allowing me bulky waters and fairies which can wall my Gatr. The former allows me to deal damage and heal myself up a bit while the latter has good Base Power and a 30% chance to poison the foe. HP Fire is to hit opposing Steels, namely Ferrothorn and Scizor, the former being especially annoying to Gatr. Lastly, Synthesis is Venusaur's most reliable way of recovery and keeps it alive. Venusaur makes a nice glue to the team, synergizing both offensively and defensively with Gatr.

Heatran Fajita (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Magma Storm
- Toxic
- Taunt

The final member of the Fire-Water-Grass Core is none other than Heatran. Heatran is such a good mon in OU right now due to it's excellent typing and ability and the number of resistances that it boasts. The set I opted for was the Specially Defensive set, allowing me to take on the fast electrics better, Fairies, Dragons and Psychics as well as switching into opposing Mega Venusaur pretty comfortably. Flash Fire lets me absorb fire attacks thorwn at Mega Venu or more importantly, Will-O-Wisps from Mega Sableye or Talonflame. 248 HP for an odd nuber of HP for Stealth Rocks, 80 Speed EVs for hitting 210 speed, allowing me to outspeed non-invested Rotom-W and Adamant Crawdaunt. The rest in SpD to take special hits betterc with a Calm Nature to boost that SpD even higher. Stealth Rocks are pretty much mandatory on all teams, to either break sashes or pressure mons when they switch in. Lava Plume is STAB with a 30% chance to burn and cripple physical attackers, although not as good a scald though :/ Toxic to wear down Dragons, bulky walls and most importantly, stop SpD Talonflame setting up on me, unless it's that taunt set :[ Finally, Taunt for Clefable and other fat stally mons. It may be a bit unusual to not see more speed on Tran running Taunt but I really needed the special bulk. Any other move over taunt would be greatly appreciated however. Tran is a great partner to both Mega Venu and Gatr because of its ability to counter the Lati twins and absorb Will-O-Wisps respectively.

DragonSlayer (Clefable) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 92 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 14 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave/Flamethrower
- Moonblast

Clefable, Clefable. This thing is so stupidly good, it really is. Being able to set up on and kill Heatran when it 4x resists it's STAB move is ridiculous. I ran the standard CM + MG Clef as I wanted a Kyurem-Black check as it completely shredded my FWG Core. This set allows it to survive 2 Ice Beams from Rash/Mild LO Kyube and proceed to either T-Wave it or Moonblast it to oblivion. http://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/clefable/ <<Here is more information about the set if you really want to know. Magic Guard allows me to not give a damn about Toxic, Burn or hazards, which is really nice, making it an excellent staus absorber. Now, my Clef has a little twist on it. 14 Speed IVs allows me to stall Ferrothorn out of Gyro Balls with Softboiled and then I can proceed to CM up on it and 3HKO with +6. As much as I would like to take the credit for this, I can't. I saw this in one of Blunder's videos with one of Cosine180's balance teams where he mentioned the Speed IVs, and I've been using it ever since. CM to boost Clef's SpD and SpA to sweeping levels, Softboiled for reliable recovery, Thunder-Wave for beating some of it's counters, namely Heatran. Flamethrower can also be used over T-Wave if Ferro is an issue, but I didn't find it to be necessary and lastly, Moonblast as STAB.

HO, especially Bisharp. As you may have noticed, my Bisharp counter is literally Mandibuzz, and when paired with Gengar, puts a lot of pressure on the Mandibuzz. I have to play very carefully around HO.

Fast Mons tear this team apart as well, as I have nothing over base 78 speed rip ;-;. Best Hope is to paralyze it with T-wave.

hey man decided to leave a rate instead of telling you on ps as i can be a bit more descriptive so heres my rate. So first off i took a look at the threat list and see that most of these fast pokemon that threaten your team serp, talon and zam as well as some of the stronger threats like gengar and bisharp can be handles by the combination of Assult vest Tornadus-Therian and tank chomp. Together these two can check everything bar kyurem-black which is really nice as this takes some of the pressure off of clef. By running this you could run somthing along the lines of Air balloon heatran or Scarf heatran if you want. the only kyu-b switch in that really fits the team is clefable. Somthing you could try is maybe go 176 spD/80 Def with bold nature on clefable to handle it better but thats just a thought. Weavile is kinda handled by venu so theres that. These are just my thoughts of this atm and ill let you know on ps if i find somthing better.

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Superpower / Focus Blast
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Knock Off

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 158 Def / 104 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic / Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Sugested Stone edge rocky chomp as it helps vs talon. You could also run stone edge on tran for the same effect though.

Adding to Lati's post about Chomp. Rock Slide is also a viable option on Bulky Chomp as it doesn't miss the KO on SpD Talonflame or Mega Zard Y, has higher accuracy and has a cutch flinch rate which has come in handy for me in the past. Really its a matter of whether you want to hit unintended targets a little harder or have more accuracy/clutch flinches.

Hey hi how's it going

I fully agree with blaze's change of mandibuzz to torn t, as your team is lacking both speed and offensive presence. Torn t gives the team both, while also fulfilling the same role that mandibuzz did minus the knock off. However, this team struggles tremendously against kyubes + clef killers, as clef is your sole check to it. Now, there isn't much you can do to defensively check it without compromising your team, but I feel there are ways to handle it offensively. Superpower over Ice Punch on gatr helps quite a bit, as it is no longer walled by kyubes, and it has the added benefit of smacking ferrothorn as well. You lose out on hitting grass types and tank chomp, but you have other ways of dealing with it with the rest of your team.

I apologize for the short rate, but there really isn't much more to add. Good luck with the team, and hope I helped.

Hi Skarmx2!

So I have fixes for your team that would make your team pretty solid in my opinion. There's a few routes you can take so pick whichever you like!

Path #1: Take out Mega Venusaur for Mega Scizor(i'll post the recommended set at the end of the post), and get rid of Heatran for Hippodown. This should fix pretty much every thing that you find wrong with this team while giving 2 answers to kyurem-b instead of one! also a more reliable electric stopper! A bit more Azumarill weak but other than that i think its fine.

Path #2: If you for some reason like the hard counter to Azumarill and Keldeo then I recommend replacing Heatran with a Stealth Rock support tyranitar. This will provide you with a Talon answer, another kyurem Black check and a secondary Latios check. The downside to this option is that it doesnt provide a ground type so mega manectric , raikou, and magnezone and thundy get a free volt switch or focus blast/flash cannon off.

Those are the two paths Personally i like my first suggestion more but whatever you wanna do bro Its your team!

Path #1's sets:

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 44 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Path #2's Set:

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 180 Def / 80 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Fire Blast
- Pursuit

Enjoy the help and good luck with your team bro!

Hi skarmx2

Your team looks extremely weak to Bisharp (nothing really handles it at +2), Manaphy (rain dance psychic 6-0s), and Spdef talon (Slowbro isnt the best answer and once Heatrans leftovers are knocked off, its a wrap). You also lack good speed control and lose to a lot of powerful attackers with decent speed (its really hard to make a balance team in ORAS without having this problem, so I dont blame you). Here are my changes:

Clefable can be unaware with a spread of 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 SpD with a Calm nature (this allows it to take on rain dance manaphy even when burned) with the standard unaware set (wish protect moonblast heal bell). This takes pressure off of Venusaur should it be burned since Venusaur is severely hindered by any residual damage. Since this does not help with the Bisharp weakness, I recommend fast Heatran with willowisp over toxic and earth power over taunt (248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe, Timid) as a psuedo check, and as a much better answer to offensive Mega Scizor. Another advantage of this set is that it can force sand rush Excadrill out, possibly getting a burn on Tyranitar or Hippowdon. However, not packing toxic on Heatran limits its ability to counter fire types, so you can change Mandibuzz to a Latias (72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe) with draco meteor, thunderbolt, defog, and roost to pressure bulky waters and Charizard Y more and possibly lure Azumarill to let Feraligatr sweep. I would also use CM Roar Suicune over Slowbro since it has good synergy with Clefable's heal bell (it doesnt have sleep talk) and it can roar out a lot of random boosters that threaten your defensive core (the combination of Heatran and Suicune takes care of both DD roost and DD EQ Charizard X). Finally, I would put knock off on Venusaur as the changes I made cause the team to be a little more Gengar weak, and knock off can wear down Heatran that switch in, and Ferrothorn will still not beat you (fast Heatran and Suicune can take on all variants of Mega Scizor). Since knock off is seen more on defensive Venusaur, you can also change the spread on Venusaur to 248 HP / 100 Def / 144 SpD / 16 Spe with a bold nature to avoid the 2hko from Gengar's sludge wave.

Sets:

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Def / 144 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Synthesis

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Will-O-Wisp
- Stealth Rock

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect

(Latias over Mandibuzz)

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Roost

(Suicune over Slowbro)

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Roar

Latias would be a good defogger, but I believe Zapdos would provide more longevity for his team overall over latias, which is cursed with a dark-type weakness. Heat wave zapdos deals with bish a whole lot better but still hates the knock off
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability:Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/ 212 Def / 44 Spa
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Volt-Switch
- Defog
- Roost

The set explains itself. 44 Spa Evs allow it to always OHKO bish. It is generally just better than mandibuzz and IMO outclasses it completely with better typing
