Fan-Made Pokémon Manga Ideas

Ok, so lately I've been feeling an incredible urge to create a fan made Pokemon manga (lol). I wanted to get some peoples ideas for somethings - simply because everything i do even though it's usually for my self i think "Would others enjoy this ?" (Call it a habit.) So just tell me your opinions on somethings you would like to read in a Pokemon manga and if you like some of my ideas. So here are some of my ideas. The Names I definitely wanted to have some Japanese relevance though. Also I want to use an existing region (I don't feel like making new Pokemon lol) just I'm not sure what region i want to use. Starter pokemon are also something I'm unsure of at the moment. I really don't want them to be generic starters but I want some variety in them simply because I want a whole town of characters and recurring characters to receive a trainer card and pokemon so I can't have grass, water and fire for all of them.



The Journey Beginning

-A boy named Junketsu No Hotto. (Meaning hot blooded)

Junketsu, is a poor young boy who lives with his grandmother after his parents went missing on an expedition in the Sinnoh region studying "Turnback cave" (I choose Turnback because I felt it was cool to send them to the distortion world and die there ;) ). Unfortunately he is now 14 and feels it's time to start his Pokemon journey however he and his grandmother are going through financial troubles and cannot afford to get him his trainer license (Trainer Card). Luckily His good friend Kōki (trustworthy) had already got his trainer card and pokemon and was waiting for Junketsu, to get his trainer card and starter. After Junketsu, comes clean and explains his struggle Kōki, offers to lend him a Poke-ball to capture a pokemon. After Junkestu successfully captures the Pokemon they enter a battle competition to make some more poke bucks in order to buy Junkestu's trainer card and then head out on their journey.



Protagonists

Name:Junkestu No Hotto

Starter: Not sure what i want to make it so far

Age: 14

Goal: Become Champion of (undecided of what region at the moment. I want it to be an already existing region.)

Fear(s): Unable to become champion to support his grandmother

Extra: Very knowledgeable about Pokemon. Knows weaknesses and plays to them. Loves offense when battling.



Name: Kōki Mikata

Starter: I'm thinking a fighting type or just a chubby pokemon in general simply because he's a chubby fellow. :toast:

Age: 15

Goal: To become a strong trainer to beat his older brother and gain more confidence in himself along the way on this journey

Fear(s): Being bullied, Bug Pokemon, heights

Extra: He's more of a defensive trainer. He prefers to use defense to his advantage before taking out his opponents.

Also just as a recurring joke in the manga I want to have a Trubbish that follows the Protagonists on their journey similar to Jiggly Puff following Ash, Misty and Brock lol. So Thanks for reading this (Hopefully you read at least some) and please give me some suggestions of pokemon, character changes, a region to use, Plot changes and some other characters and their pokemon to add. Also I wanted to add some fan favorite characters from the Pokemon games so be sure to mention some characters that were your favorite from some of the pokemon games... even goddamn youngster joey
 
This forum is more for discussion of the currently running official Pokémon manga. You might have more success in Smeargle's Studio (the forum that focuses on creative writing and art). Let me know if you would like me to move the thread there.

Just throwing out some suggestions, cause i love the idea, but Koki's starter should be Makuhita, it just feels like his Pokemon.
As far as where they start their journey, I wanna say either Hoenn or Johto, just cause i love those two regions very much, and Hoenn is pretty close to Sinnoh.(False)
So Junketsu's starter should be a wild Pokemon from one of those two, since that's how he gets his first Pokemon, preferably something weak to Fighting, as it would be the quickest way for Koki to help his friend get a Pokemon.
So either a rock, normal, steel, ice or dark. Which leads to a good possible amount of beginner or near beginner wild Pokemon for the protagonist to catch. But he also loves offensive fighting, so what Pokemon that fits those types have the best Attack stat? Well just from my preference, I'd love to see him get houndour, so Johto is a good starting region for that. Or if you want Hoenn, I'd like to see the starter be Poocheyena. As you can tell i love dark types :D

Edit: Since his grandmother isn't all too well off, and hes trying to get his trainer card, there should be this heavy-ish atmosphere every so often, where the two are living a bit rustically, and every so often, after they get a flying pokemon, he has it take a letter, with money in it, to his grandmothers house, as a sorta of reoccurring thought in the readers mind of how much of a struggle this really is for Koki, Junketsu, and even his grandmother. What do you have in mind for Antagonist by the way? I feel as though my thoughts could contribute well into that.

That last part sounds really vague, and there are a plethora of other different pokemcomics out there (most of them bad) who try to copy the manga and anime in this regard. And since you appear to be new to this thing, making a manga with no particular ending doesn't sound too well since otherwise there's no goal to strive towards. So instead, try to think up a specific plot or quest that your main character is set to accomplish and then you can work yourself from there. I wouldn't suggest beocming the champion to be the plot (once again, overdone), but the getting his first starter can be done in the way you specified since there aren't that many ways one can get their first pokemon.

Basically: Avoid being generic. Try to make a plot or setting that makes your manga stand out from other similar fan productions.

Thanks :D. For an antagonist I'm definitely thinking someone who put his grandmother in this position. I mean she can't just start off in poverty there has to be a reason right. But still not to sure still in the writing stage and tons of time to change.

And what Bummer said, just throwing out end goal, but gaining the trust, and willingness of friends to take down some antagonist organization. With some awesome team battles threw a base. So maybe make the feeling of a dystopia for the manga.
