Evolution and Pokemon Traits

I'm having a tremendous amount of difficulty evolving my Gligar and Rhydon into Sand Veil Gliscor and Solid Rock Rhyperior, respectively.

My Gligar is Sand Veil, and when it evolves into Gliscor it gets Hyper Cutter. Rhydon has Rock Head. When it evolves, it turns into Lightningrod. Why is this? It's not random, either -- all 10 of the cloned Sand Veil Gligars I've evolved turned into Hyper Cutter and all 6 of the cloned Rock Head Rhydons have turned into Lightningrod.

Argh.

When a Pokemon is imported through Pal Park, it's Ability might change after evolution. This is preset so a Rhydon that evolves into a Lightning Rod Rhyperior will always evolve into a Lightning Rod Rhyperior. If a Pokemon and a clone of the Pokemon is sent over, I'm not sure if they can end up with different Abilities. If you want to guarenteed a Solid Rock Rhyperior, you need to make a Rock Head Rhyhorn in DP.

Well, I guess this answers the question of whether or not the new ability is randomly picked.

lol and I´ve bred two months for rock head rhyhorns back in september (though I got better ones with lightningrod)...and finished an awesome gligar two weeks ago, now this will be "funny" to see what they evolve into OMG ._.

Yeah my Pal Park'd Rock Head Rhydon turned into a Solid Rock Rhyperior as well. I'm so lucky though, I had no idea Pal Park affected traits like this, so I didn't even bother cloning it before transferring :x

What, then, could be the part of the pokemon's "dna" that determines how it will evolve? If all the Rhydons I clone in Emerald and Pal Park to Diamond are evolving into Lightningrod, what is it that determines how it will evolve? Might it be that a 31/31/31/31/31/31 Rhydon, for example, will evolve into Solid Rock, and a 30/31/31/31/31/31 Rhydon, will get Lightningrod? Or maybe it has something to do with the OT #?

Well you did clone them all meaning you're just using the same pokemon to the game's perspective over and over. You'll have to actually test this with different pokemon to get anywhere. Maybe request people to submit their information about what their pokemon did when Pal Parked and then evolved????

I recently brought up my trace porygon2 from emerald and after evolving it has download ability. makes me wonder if had I brought it up as a porygon or if it's something predetermined.

I just got three more Rhydons in Emerald, all different, and Pal Parked them -- they all evolved into Lightningrod Rhyperior again. I'm baffled. How do you get a Pal Parked Rhydon to evolve into Rhyperior!?

If it does indeed depend on the hidden value (hex number?) of a Pokemon (makes the most since, seeing as how even clones don't change), it's totally random to what a Pal Parked Pokemon's ability will change to upon evolution. The only way to tell would be to use a cheating device. The secret value of a Pokemon cannot be changed without a cheating device, ether. I'm afraid your stuck with a Lightningrod Rhyperior.

It's been awhile since I read up about this, but don't trait's have secret numerical values too? You know, ones that decide what ability a Pokemon will have? Maybe those values are reset when transferred?

If somebody could Pal Park something like a bunch of No Ability Absol and see what ability they get, that would probably enough to research on. Unless of course, the game won't let you transfer modified stuff.

The game will let you transfer hacked pokemon, at least the ones with legal moves and stats. I don't know about non-legal moves/stats.

Hmm, I trasferred two hacked rhyperiors, 31 IV straight both rock head, and both went rock solid. I'll try a few more and post the results tomorrow when I can pal park again.

I hope I have that kind of luck, I'm evolving my Shiny Porygon2 w/trace tomarrow, hopefully it'll end up with Download.

omg...this made me so paranoid....but yeah...since these pokemon came from palpark....and their abilities cahnge....i may sound crazy but maybe....if u traded it to anotherdiamond/pearl/and they STOP the evolution,,,then trade it back...it would be great if we could check the info on the pokemon before it saved thoug

Trade evolutions can't be stopped unless they're holding the Everstone.

All of my Gligars with Sand Veil evolved into Hyper Cutter Gliscor... all of my Gligars with Hyper Cutter evolved into Sand Veil Gliscor... Very strange.

make me feel like an idiot....wellso that means that my great ived lightening rod rhyhorn can change to a solid rock rhypherior from emerald?

Well, I guess the fact that all six of your clones became LR Rhyperiors means the theory that the ability is determined upon transfer is unlikely. It seems like it's determined upon hatching/capture whether that be IVs or w/e...

Like I said, it's probably the hidden value of a Pokemon, or trait value if there is indeed such a thing. Hidden Values have no effect on a Pokemon really, but they exist. In RSE Hidden Values are also what decides if Mirage Island will show up or not on certain days. Hidden Values I THINK are also what determines the gender of a Pokemon. Genderless Pokemon I'm pretty sure have a hidden value of 0.
