Eviolite Users

Spr_5b_200.png

Misdreavus
In a tier devoid of choice for defensive Ghost type Pokemon Misdreavus' 60/60/85 defences are not stellar but enhanced by Eviolite become bulky indeed. Acting as one of the only spin blocker in NU Misdreavus is a common sight on teams, gaining perfect coverage with Shadow Ball and HP Fighting which can both hurt coming off 85 SpA while it can outspeed much of the tier with 85 Spe. Supportwise Misdreavus has access to Will-O-Wisp to boost its Defense and Taunt to shut down walls. It is often seen carrying Substitute to ease prediction and allow it a chance against Absol.

Unfortunately Absol is everywhere and while it must watch out for HP Fighting it has both Sucker Punch and Night Slash to bring a quick end to Misdreavus. Swellow also fears little that Misdreavus can do due to Guts and an immunity to Shadow Ball.

Spr_5b_436.png

Bronzor
Bronzor possesses dual screens, stealth rock, gravity, toxic and trick room making for an excellent supporter. It's 57/86/86 defenses become immense after applying Eviolite's boost to them. Its Steel/Psychic typing is a blessing for it leaving it with only one weakness and a large number of resists and immunities. It acts as a solid counter to the birds however being able to status them and set up screens in their faces.

However it lacks any sort of offensive presence with 24/24 offenses and is exceptionally slow, barely out speeding Torkoal with 23 Spe. This makes it set up bait and it is exceptionally taunt weak.

Spr_5b_177.png

Natu
Natu is notable for being the only Pokémon in NU with the ability of Magic Bounce. This makes it an excellent status absorber and allows it to prevent entry hazards from being laid. Unlike Bronzor its 40/45/45 will not impress anyone with or without Eviolite however it does have passable offenses of 50/70/70 and access to Roost which allows it to keep healthy.

Its support movepool is large, containing dual screens, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Sunny Day and Rain Dance, Trick Room, Tailwind, and Power / Guard Swap. Its ability also allows it to participate in a Baton Pass chain and reflect phasing attempts.

Spr_5b_198_m.png

Murkrow
Murkrow distinguishes itself with the ability Prankster allowing its non-attacking moves to gain +1 priority. 60/42/42 defenses aren't worth writing home about however become passable with Eviolite.

It possesses Featherdance, Mean Look and Roost allowing it to stall out physical attackers despite its low defensive stats. It is one of the fastest weather starters in the tier with a priority Rain Dance and Sunny Day along with Tailwind to speed other Pokémon up. However it is forced to choose between Damp / Heat Rock or Eviolite which is a major weakness for it as a weather starter. Its priority Thunder Wave, Toxic, Taunt and Torment allow it to shut down many Pokémon.

Other than that it has 85/85/91 offences which while passable in NU are outclassed in an offensive role.

Spr_5b_008.png

Wartortle
Wartortle is notable only for possessing Rapid Spin. It has mediocre offenses but its 59/80/80 defenses combined with a good defensive typing are impressive when boosted by an Eviolite.

Spr_5b_343.png

Baltoy
Baltoy also fulfills the role of a Rapid Spinner and has a unique typing and ability which gives it an immunity to both Electric and Ground. Its 40/55/70 defenses display its weak physical bulk but reasonable special bulk after Eviolite.

Spr_5b_114.png

Tangela
Tangela has a wide support movepool, a usable Special Attack and immense physical defense. 65/115/40 defenses with Eviolite applied are enormous, being able to tank a Guts Swellow Brave Bird and still be standing at the end of it. It also possesses Regenerator, Leech Seed and Giga Drain to heal it along with Sleep Powder to stop it being set up bait,

Spr_5b_042_m.png

Golbat
Golbat has several unique moves to set it apart from other Eviolite users. It's unique typing gives it 3 4X resists and its 75/70/75 defenses are huge when enhanced with Eviolite.

90 Spe stat means that it possesses a fast taunt, haze and can as a fast, bulky weather starter as well. Unfortunately for all NFE weather starters it is forced into the choice of Eviolite or a Rock of its choice to extend the weather, making it mostly outclassed as a weather starter. It has Whirlwind to rack up more hazard damage, Super Fang to cripple opposing Pokémon as well as Roost to heal itself. All in all Golbat is a top tier Pokémon and wall.

Spr_5b_372.png

Shelgon
65/100/50 defences aren't something you call home to tell mum you met but after Eviolite combined with Dragon's innate elemental resistances become impressive. Backed by a 95 Atk stat Shelgon is not to be underestimated. Able to Wish / Protect and pass Wishes Shelgon is a versatile Pokemon. It also possesses Dragon Dance if you're so inclined for a bulky set up sweeper.
(TBH I thought he was Rock/Dragon for a while. That would a cool middle finger to Swellow.)

Spr_5b_611.png

Fraxure
In a tier devoid of Dragons and Steels Fraxure stands out notable for its combination of one of the best boosting moves and a massively powerful Outrage. Fraxure possesses an amazing 117 Atk stat which finds itself boosted with Dragon Dance. 67 Speed is just enough once boosted with Dragon Dance and spamming Outrage is a relatively safe proposition in a tier with virtually non existent steels.

Spr_5b_444_m.png

Gabite
Gabite is a different beast from Fraxure. Fraxure possesses much more power off the bat while Gabite has a lovely STAB Earthquake that Fraxure lacks. Gabite also possesses 82 Speed, however lacks Dragon Dance, a serious blow to it. Substitute and Hone Claws allow it to boost with its virtually unresisted STABs and allows it to choose Dragon Rush over Outrage which possesses most of the power of Outrage without being locked in and the low accuracy is boosted by Hone Claws.

Spr_5b_559.png

Scraggy
Scraggy is quite literally a little Scrafty. It possesses its big brother's advantages of nearly unresisted dual STABs and fears nothing from most Psychic types, something most Fighting types would give their right hand to have.

It commonly runs a Bulk Up set or more offensive variants run Dragon Dance. For Fighting STAB the two most common options are High Jump Kick which grants it amazing power or Drain Punch which enhances its longevity. For Dark STAB it chooses between Crunch and Payback generally choosing based upon whether Bulk Up (Payback) or Dragon Dance (HJK) was chosen. Bulk Up generally runs Shed Rest to regain health while Dragon Dance can choose to run it but generally will not survive if Shed Skin doesn't activate. Gifted with the abilities of Moxie or Shed Skin it can choose a virtual immunity to status or to become an unstoppable wrecking ball with each KO granting it additional power.

Spr_5b_533.png

Gurdurr
Gurdurr possesses an excellent 105 Atk stat which sees use as a bulky set upper. Generally seen Bulk Uping and then using a combination of Drain Punch, Payback and Mach Punch to deal immense damage, strong special attacks are required to muscle past its Eviolite increased 85/85/50 defenses.

Spr_5b_578.png

Duosion
Duosion, much like Gurdurr, acts as a bulky Calm Minder from the special side of the spectrum. 65/50/60 defenses aren't worth writing home about but with 125 SpA it hits like a truck. It possess Recover so powerful attackers are necessary to stop it before it gains too many boosts.

221.png

Piloswine
Piloswine possesses an interesting typing of Ground/Ice which while substandard defensively, as is every Pokemon featuring Ice, has amazing STABs. With 100 Atk Piloswine can hit hard and has high powered moves to back it up. Ice Shard allows it to revenge weakened birds, while Icicle Crash and Earthquake allow it to destroy most Pokemon. 50 Speed means Avalanche is a viable alternative to Icicle Crash. It also possesses Stone Edge to give it EdgeQuake coverage and Roar and Stealth Rock if you'd prefer a supporter. It also possesses dual screens but has better things to do. Finally Superpower affords it Fighting coverage although forces it to switch.

Spr_5b_125.png

Electabuzz
Electabuzz is most commonly seen as a scarfer, however faces competition from Rotom-S who possesses an additional STAB which hits the bulky Grass types and Fighting types hard. Electabuzz has relatively mediocre defenses possessing only 65/57/85 stats however with Eviolite these become reasonably bulky. Combined with its fairly impressive 83/95/105 offenses allowing it to easily go mixed, it represents a different breed to the other Eviolite Pokémon being neither a support Pokémon or a bulky set upper but rather a bulky tank capable of both delivering and taking hits.

Spr_5b_288.png

Vigoroth
Vigoroth has a key advantage its evolution lacks: namely not being a piece of s***. (I'm kidding. Everyone just chill out) Despite fierce competition from the large amount of normal types who populate NU Vigoroth has several advantages other Normals lack including 80/80/55 bulk before Eviolite and a lovely 90 Speed to run and do damage with his 80 Atk which is passable in NU. Sadly its Physical movepool is lacking being forced to rely on Brick Break for coverage. Luckily it gets Earthquake to aid it and sadly no Stone Miss instead relying on Rock Slide.

So go discuss! Are they merely limited versions of their fully evolved forms or does the inferior offenses and enhanced defenses create a different kind of Pokémon? Are there fully evolved Pokémon who can do the job they're doing better? Is the loss of an item choice a deal breaker?

If I've forgotten any Pokémon tell me and I'll add them.

Edit: This thread wasn't really intended as an absolute guide to NFE in NU and and mistakes were *heh* made. Thanks for bearing with us and hopefully this edit should *heh* bring things up to standard.

shelmet has the ability to set up spikes and recover which is enough to give it a niche even with horrible typing and only average defenses.

shelgon has a nice defense stat (although lacking intimidate) and can use wish/protect/dragon claw/ddance as a bulky setup sweeper.

scraggy can run an effective bulk up set that can take on psychic types unlike gurdurr or throh, it also has shed skin + rest to last longer, DD works too i guess.

seriously, you include stuff like bronzor and electabuzz and not misdreavus ?
Edit: frillish is super legit @ DTC, probably deserves a mention as well

wtf, you should get some knowledge about the meta before writing this....

First, you have forgot putting the best mons (like misdreavus or fraxure -.-) and you have talked about crap like bronzor or baltoy.

Electabuzz is NOT supposed to act as a bulky eviolite tank, its a fast scarfer/special attacker, and his offensive stats are 83 Atk/95 Spatk/105 Speed, which is above average in NU, fix that.

Btw, don't say Golbat/Murkrow with eviolite as good weather inducers as they can't hold a Weather Stone and Eviolite at the same time.

Ignoring the lack of various effective NU Pokemon in the OP and the snide remarks involving it, Eviolite is a wonderful item in NU. It makes various Pokemon effective in NU, and adds to the diversity. I love seeing all the different options you can use! Lately I've been finding that I've been putting more NFE Pokemon on my team than I usually used to do... and not just for testing. Eviolite is such a powerful item for these NFE's, but, because most NFE's have a fairly low attack/special attack set, they tend to be set up bait, or just simply too weak to do massive damage so their role is restricted to supporting and spreading status.

We should use this topic to think of some new, effective Pokemon that utilize Eviolite well. A lot of top tier threats are only checked by a few Pokemon, and some of those Pokemon may be Pokemon that utilize Eviolite.

I really want to try out the following Pokemon more some time: Metang, Staryu, Frillish, Ivysaur (ninja was hyping this on the irc...), Shelemt. They look very interesting!

[hide='mons that you might want to add on to the list]
  • Shelgon
  • Misdreavus
  • Scraggy
  • Metang
  • Lairon
  • probably a lot more
[/hide]

But seriously, I don't think the OP created this topic just to serve as an information topic as to what Pokemon that can utilize Eviolite well that are good in NU. If everything was listed already, there wouldn't be much to talk about!

I don't think Lairon could effectively use an eviolite set considering it has a MASSIVE weakness to extremely common offensive moves (fighting and ground.) It also sports numerous other weaknesses. There is not a ton that Lairon can do either.

Dragonair might deserve a mention as well. It has decent defenses with the Evolite, and Rest + Shed Skin is a pretty nice recovery option.

Bayleef has 60/80/80 defenses, which combined with an Eviolite, are pretty decent, and it has a huge support movepool, with Dual Screens, Aromatherapy, Synthesis, Leech Seed, and so forth. Unfortunately, it's offenses are pretty laughable, although you could probably slap Giga Drain on so you're not complete Taunt bait.

Okay, what can it do that Meganium can't?.

TheReptile,I clearly quoted a post about Bayleff, not baltoy.

Instead of Evolite Users, you should reanme to the thread to NFE pokemon users. Pokemon like Haunter and Kadabra are very usable in the tier, but they don't need a Evolite

Another big pokemon missing on your list is Wynaut

Heck I don't know why I don't see more of this guy in the tier, he was considered uber last generation. There's probably something he can trap and eliminate?

Doesn't Gloom have rather decent defenses? 60/70/75... 85 special attack! It gets sleep powder and stun spore, and can even run a swords dance set! Although with 50/45/80, Roselia comes close with a better movepool (Spikes, Toxic Spikes, or Leaf Storm) and 100 special attack.

Probopass has the same typing and it's one of the most used pokemon in the tier. I actually like lairon a lot, it has some key moves over the rest of rock (and steel) pokemon in the tier and an overlooked 90 base attack (combined with head smash, you have the strongest unboosted Rock attack in the tier bar rampardos), the steel typing helps to check jynx and lairon also has roar, a rare move in NU but it's pretty valuable on most teams. And is also the physically bulkiest pokemon in NU (despite his undesirable weaknesses). I would even say Lairon>Bastiodon really.

Why use gloom if you have vileplume? And that applies for everything, including 100 base spatk, the use of leftovers, and some exclusive moves.

Oh, about piloswine, I think you should remark it as a tank (100/80/65 deffenses are EXTREMELY GOOD with eviolite), it has boltbeam resistance (if you don't mind forgoing stealth rock), good attack (100), great stabs and movepool in general and etc etc. A pokemon that really deserves researching...

Plz, change electabuzz description, the offensive stats are wrong.

Doesn't anybody consider NP Misdreavus good? I mean, 85 Speed and 85 Spatk are decent for a NU sweeper (considering you outspeed the biggest threat aka absol, to play sub mindgames), it has perfect coverage, good bulk with eviolite, the ability to still check fighting pokemon but mantaining offensive presence... It looks interesting imo, a set that should be tried.

I use sub/np/shadowball/hp fighting Misdreavus. It sets up on plenty of pokes while it has an eviolite. I did max speed, timid and max spA.
It definitely does work and it does surprise people when you come in on a poke such as licki and it can't break its subs.

Machoke is definitely something I think is quite underestimated. Guts is pretty much outclassed by Gurdurr thanks to Mach Punch, but dynamic punch is a pretty annoying set. Obviously ghost types wall it to high heaven, but nobody likes switching into dynamic punch !

Eviolite Nidorino isn't half bad, it has hustle/hone claws, which at +1 gives him the equivalent attack of around base 100 after an SD-not bad. With eviolite it has respectable bulk to set up and tank neutral hits, and can beat many of the offensive pokes in the tier with a priority sucker punch.

Nidorino@Evoilite
252 hp/252 atk adamant (+atk, -spatk)
Hustle
-Hone Claws
-Sucker Punch
-Poison Jab
-Double Kick/Dig/Head Smash/Iron Tail/Filler

I wouldn't ignore Toxic Spikes as an option in that slot, they're THAT GOOD in this meta (unless more people start using Vileplume 9.9).

I've used Eviolite Lairon once before in an NU team. At first, it sounded like a good idea, with Eviolite giving it an effective 210 base defense. I tried Roar, Toxic, Stealth Rock, and Head Smash. While his high defenses proved formidable when it comes to neutral and 2x weaknesses, 4x weaknesses 2HKO him. Also, his low Spc. Def. causes a loss of points, too. Ultimately, Regirock proved to serve my role of NU physical wall better.
