Everstone?

I'd heard a little snippet regarding the item Everstone that if you gave it to a female Pokemon and bred her, her baby would have the same nature. I gave an everstone to my Naughty Charmander and bred her with a Snorlax with Belly Drum only to find the offspring was Jolly (a better nature yes, but still). So what's up with Everstone?

The everstone gives a 25-50% boost to the chance that the offspring has the same nature it is not definite
